  • The first leg of my Colombia trip was in Cartagena! This was my first time in South America. We spent three and a half days walking around the old city and Getsamaní, exploring cafes and bars, sunset sailing, and learning about the rich African history in San Basilio de Palenque (the first free town in the Americas). We didn't have time to explore any beaches or islands (plus, I am still recovering from a finger injury so I didn't want to get my finger wet), but I absolutely loved everything we did there. WARNING: you will need to bring some extra memory cards, because I could NOT stop taking out my camera and phone for pictures every 10 seconds. The colonial architecture is stunning, especially paired with all the colorful flowers and street fruit carts around... all of it was just magical.
I also included all prices of what we did and ate in this video! Thought it might be helpful to know how to budget if you decide to come. The USD conversion is approximate (but pretty accurate), of course depending on the exchange rate of the day...

Thanks for the fun video. My friend and I are contemplating whether to make a trip to Cartagena or just go with our original plan of Medellin and Bogota. Cartagena looks like a colorful beach town but I'm not sure if we have the time since we'll only be in Colombia for about 15 days. Do you have a favorite city in Colombia and why? Btw, the food looks amazing, especially the regional fish dishes.

I really liked both major cities I went to! Can see myself going back to both. Medellin is more livable and I like the weather there more, it’s more mild. But Cartagena can’t be missed either! So colorful and beautiful to walk through, lots to do since it’s by the water too

Hi!! Thanks for watching! So the free walking tours were definitely free. If you are booking it through the website I linked and click on "book", you should be directed to a google form: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfbRc6IiZ6f8PhKTU8PHXLA5RqVm6GbUd1REhfzhDh7vu3F3g/viewform?c=0&w=1
It's free and like you already mentioned you're aware of, just tip and that's all! The other two tours I took (sunset sailing and Palenque) were paid, through Viator and Airbnb Experiences

Aw so excited for you! Glad my video helped in some way :) I did see some coffee tours for Cartagena on Viator and TripAdvisor, but there definitely aren’t as many compared to cities like Medellín. I don’t think Cartagena is as known for coffee tours because of where it’s located. I would say a good place to stay with your girlfriends is where I stayed - Getsamaní :) lots of cool restaurants, very walkable, great for pics

Thank you for sharing your time in Cartagena!! It looks amazing there! 😍 Can't wait to visit!.. In the future, please don't refer to the original people of Palenque (or anyone else) as slaves. They are PEOPLE that were enslaved. I know you meant no harm! As a fellow Californian, I know the history books teach us that they are slaves. However as we know better, we must do better. That includes dropping the colonizers' vernacular.

Let me correct you Honey.... Cartegena did not go from a crime riddled city , to clean and safe - due to "Gentrification". Which means : The process whereby the character of a poor urban area is changed by wealthier people moving in, improving housing, and attracting new businesses, typically displacing current inhabitants in the process. The PEOPLE of Cartegena have not been displaced. They are still right there. So please, dont come down here with that American attitude, like YOUR presence rescued that place. The PEOPLE of Cartegena, came together to take their city back from the Cartel. I'm very put off by this lil youtubers use of the word Gentrification, being used as the reason this city still exists. It was there before and it will be there after youre gone. Many people lost their lives, battling for this city. I don't feel like that fact is being respected very much in this video...
