Love taking these little field trips with your family!
So great to see different places and things in other locations!
Thank You! :)
She was the nicest woman I ever met. She and I hit it off when I was a young 17 year old girl. Ms. Duke alway’s called my mom and asked if she'd mind if she could see me. My mom loved her so much and they even spoke about humanitarian aid and Ms Duke helped my mom who devoted her life to humanitarian aid all over the world. My grandfather made pearls for her one of a kind. It was shocking when she asked my mother about a set of pearls she was wearing. That's when we learned of that as my grandfather was the man who made one of a kind design jewelry introducing pearls to the Japanese made so many different styles for many. He also was the one if you're wearing an Eternity band made the first in the world. I'm really happy I have the first he made. Ms Duke became a very important part of my life and certain decisions I'd ask her advice for. It breaks my heart what the state of New Jersey has been endlessly doing to her estate the grounds that she loved so dearly her amazing trees she had flown in from Africa and planted so perfectly. I'll often go quietly and just sit and remember those wounderful moments memories of having the pleasure of knowing the real woman behind certain people's beliefs. There's so many things people aren't aware of that she deserves credit for and the state has some nerve damaging what truly could have been a fantastic historical history lesson and more. I miss her dearly. Was she close to her family? I'll never speak regarding that. She in fact lived very down to earth often she'd even randomly leave her house and enjoy the people who came to visit her beautiful green houses. I remember the first time I saw her do it and the faces of shock and amazement on people's faces. She wasn't what people assumed she was in any sense or did she care much for having to be private protected 247. I remember a real woman human being. Money is nice but there's many things it can't buy it can't bring joy and happiness
She often said certain thing's like that to me. I can say I am greatful for certain part's of the 80’s and when she suddenly passed away I was on the road. I thank her for the advice she gave me on that one as well. Wonderfully dressed alway’s Ms Duke looked even in her long flowing dressed she'd wear relaxing and her lovely spots wear. She brought me my frist amazing Ralph Lauren sweater. I cherish every moment good or sad when around her.
Another wonderful video packed with history. Thank you xxx
Amy Howell you re welcome, since you re from Australia and so many viewers come from outside the US I always think that kind of videos are interesting to you guys
Oh it is very interesting. I love these videos xxx
What a beautiful property. Not sure we have anything around near me like that. And what an amazing lady and an amazing legacy.
Libby Withnall Libby, i thought they could still manicure it a bit, there is nothing wrong with the mission, but a lot of the meadows looked completely abandoned and not cared for at all, it was a big let down for us. They are not showing (part of the tour) those areas that are most interesting and I get it, money is tight even for these types of foundations. But I do like her a lot, though she was, for what I understand, a complete loony!
Amazing and amusing......really enjoyed the trip!
+Lenore Keller thank you
Such beautiful land. Thanx Sophia :)
I loved this video! Fascinating story about Doris Duke. What a beautiful farm and park.
Terry d she was a loony you know
I actually was so interested after you posted that vid that I did a wiki search on her and yeah--with that much money, she could afford to be looney or anything else she wanted. Can you imagine having that much money with nothing to do but jet around buying property around the world and looking for causes to keep oneself busy---LMAO!
+My Great Challenge She wasn't loony. She increased her worth with wise investments. When she was old she was conned by a young woman con artist who pretended to be a reincarnation of someone she knew but Duke wised up. At least that is what I remember.
New Jersey is full of treasures I hadn't imagined. Thank you for sharing your adventures and for being a treasure yourself.
roomforapony1 you re welcome
Thankyou for sharing this I love anything to do with history, I always have.
It was all so beautiful xx
What a lovely estate and Orchid House - my favourite was the deep red one! I was just thinking there ought to be a mini train to take people around - and then there was lol. I bet you were all tired and had a good nights sleep! Lorna UK
Jonathan Pountney it was too hot to walk back, lol, but to be honest, the tram just zooms through, you can't really see much
That's a pity - they should do a round scenic trip showing a good proportion of the estate. Lorna UK
So beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
What a beautiful place to visit. I love the "less manicured" look of the estate.
I really enjoyed watching this video! Gosh what a beautiful place to visit, love the orchid nursery and the grounds were absolutely beautiful, thanks for sharing this video Sophia, hopefully one day I can visit it.
Emily Kiesling i hope you can.
This place is amazing! I would love to visit some day.
Sooo beautiful, than you for sharing your day !!
Beautiful,
Thanks for sharing! I would never have known about anything in NJ if it wasn't for your videos. Do you think Jasper would like to live in the park? Not many cats too get him?!
BellinaSkyBright if he choses to go there but I hear that they tend to stay near where they were born
Gosh! Nice life and Beautiful place. But the nicest part is the legacy left behind.
Sophia, see if you can rent the movie Bernard and Doris. She left 5 million to her butler, plus $500,000.00 a year for life!
Just saw it free on xfinity. Strange movie, it was ok. Just like the movie Titanic, I can bare to watch it once. I don't know how the real Doris's personality was, Susan Sarandon's role in the movie, she acted as a real bitch. No wonder she lonely.
