Concrete Ribbon Lanes - Alternative to asphalt paving for a steep hill driveway

- Many people call these Ribbon Lanes. Asphalt paving was way too expensive. Paving entirely in concrete was very cost prohibitive. Recycled Asphalt is not strong enough for this steep hill and not as durable as I need. I used large size gravel between and beside the lanes because the smaller 'packable' road pack tends to wash down the hill during storms. This heavier gravel doesn't pack but it doesn't need to and it does not roll down the hill. Of course this would have been easier to form it from the bottom to the top and bring in a truck but this was more fun and way cheaper.
Thank you for the idea, going for something like this. Greetings from Costa Rica!
In answer to the person asking "Who are you talking to? Yourself?"
He is talking to you. It is called narration. It makes the video more informative and interesting.
Thanks for a great video.
How about some follow up comments on how it has worked out?
A. How has it held up?
B. How was it for winter?
C. Would you have done? anything different in hindsight?
How steep is this driveway? I have about a 15% grade. I am trying to do the same thing!
Superb work, very well done. Careful Kid!
Thank you for the video and idea. Good job and God bless.
I want to do this but with the dry pour method 😬 cause I have no help. I might use cattle panel fencing for the reinforcemnt due to it being stronger for less money.
How long is the drive way? and how much did it cost finally?
Good work, I would have scored or Raked the top more deeply, especially on the sloped section, winter snow would completely cover it think?
It looks so good How steep. % grade.?
Sweetest video ever! Loved his smile at the end! Can you come do my driveway? ;)
Great project
Hi, this is great! How long did this take to do?
did you form the whole length of the ribbon ? or did you move the forms?
I did 40' sections
So how much did cost? I have a big hill drive that I been maintaining for 15yrs after each heavy rain, how has is been to maintain?
It cost around $8000 at the time. It has been easy to maintain I have had some cracks show up that I have had to seal up but after a few years I still wish I had done it 10 years ago.
How have these held up over the years?
Totally amazing. Have had many tandem truck loads of fill and it has held up fine. I wish I did it years before, very happy I went ahead with it.
How many feet and how thick were the ribbons for this driveway if you don't mind me asking.
The depth was a full 4 inches deep because I took a 2x4 and added strips of plywood with a narrow crown stapler to make sure I had enough depth. The width of each lane I made was 30" each if I remember correctly.
Who are you talking to yourself LMFAO
