  • Fender "The Bends" Compressor Pedal Review
    This is my review of the new Fender Compressor pedal called the Bends. Overall it does what it's supposed to do.

    Nice review. BTW, I`ve been shopping at Thomann, wearing a InTheBlues T-Shirt and got a discount for the first time without even asking for it :-)

    Nice demo Shane! I found the manual on this pedal a big help on setting it up, to get much better use of it than I was getting by just playing around with it. :-)

    Great reviews as ever Shane, however, and I don't wish to be picky, but you seem to be confusing release (recovery), with attack (drive). You can see the jewel light change colour as the compression is released. This feature I think is quite useful for tired (or in my case, old and gig-worn) ears, when setting it up.
    You said (Santa Ana review), that there was one pedal in this series you wouldn't be reviewing, as you didn't like it. I'm (possibly not the only one) curious to know which pedal, and what you didn't like about it?

    Recovery is release, how long it holds and keeps compressing the signal before it returns to normal volume

    Great video Shane, I was very interested in this pedal for an affordable compressor that works as good as a boutique one. I really like the led light that changes color when it is in "working" mode. Will definitely have to check this out at my local guitar store. Thanks!!

    I understand compression and I know it's a standard studio tool and many gigging players use them I know. How many guys playing in their living room use them ? I own an ancient Aria from the 80's ,I might dig it out and see how it sounds like after 20 years 👍😀🎸

      I play at home and I never want to turn my compressor off. It isn't just the sustain and smoothing I like. It has a dramatic effect on tone in a really good way. My guitars become more responsive and capable of a greater range of expression. Or rather I can extract a greater range by the way I play.

    • @gunkanjima3408

      @ResoBridge 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shaunw9270 I know what you mean. I have tried a number of compressor pedals and only the Keeley Compressor Plus works for me. Which is funny because it is based on the MXR Dynacomp which I also have. Most guitar pedal compressors don't have the range of controls that a studio compressor has, so a lot of the parameters are fixed. It depends on if you like the chosen fixed values. I use mine only for clean guitar. If you play with the guitar in the same room as the amp and speaker the effect of the compressor depends on your amp levels.

    Nice sounding comp. I'd take this over an expensive "boutique" comp any day

  • @ResoBridge
    @ResoBridge 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was given one of these pedals, partly because two of the blue LEDs don't light. All the controls seem to do something to the sound and the jewel light sometimes goes red, but it doesn't sound like it is compressing to me. I think it has more problems than just dead LEDs :-( Oh well back to the Keeley.

    Just tried this on a 87 ibanez rd707 bass. With a darkglass alpha omega ultra on a tc bq500. Ashdown 410h and a tc k212 on bottom. I know. Its a list of nerd stuff. But it was ridicilous huge sound. Not one tone was missing. And i added a boss 3d distortion with dunlop wah in it on a solo. It was burton heaven❤. This is as good as it get for bass compression🤘

    Can you help me a bit please? Is recovery the attack? If it is so, why is it called recovery? Can I not adjust sustain? Thanx!

    • @jimherleva4541
      @jimherleva4541 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch the video - he explains it all there. The sustain is adjusted by the Drive function. The recovery is the "attack" of the compressor. It's all there in the video.

    It boosts a lot of noise that's for sure.

    • @konradknap_
      @konradknap_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Martin Smith that's the nature of compression - it turns down a part of the signal according to how you set it. Then you most likely bring the overall level up to make up for the initial gain reduction. This of course brings out the noise, but it has nothing to do with the noise of the actual pedal
