Pro-tip for packing clothes, just put them (hanger and all) in the gallon trash bags and carry them out. Easy to pack and unpack. I do this every time I move.
Heyy super bad idea for the environment! If youre moving in boxes you can do the exact same thing just folded in half!

Moving is hard physically but also mentally because every item you touch has memories attached to it. It gets overwhelming at the end of the day because you wonder why you wasted so much money on things you didn't really need and no matter how much you are purging, when you get to the new space, you are going to wonder why you saved so much stuff! I met a girl who moved to the US from down under and prior to the move her house burned down and she lost everything. Sher said in a lot of ways it was a relief because she realized she was spending a lot of time taking care of stuff instead of people! Absolutely. Mostly for me, it was the kids toys. I know how pricey they are and alot were gifts. But constantly cleaning toys got old. So I put 75% in a huge bag and hid it. I told myself if the kids didn't notice something gone in a week or 2, its gone! And now no more piles of unused toys!
Exactly! I've moved too much and know that when it's time to go, you're not going to care about most of what you have! Personal items like tech and stationary, clothes and bathroom stuff, maybe some kitchen and food. That's it.

Well, when I moved out my marital home before divorce I had to pack my stuff at once and quickly. And let me tell you - even my late son's things (we don't have memory boxes tradition in my country, so I organised it myself) were in disarray! I had so much to declutter! I thought I didn't have much clothes (I decluttered it twice before, but I got some maternity clothes and such). So, yeah you have to declutter before you move to avoid dealing with ton of stuff after moving in. Because we have a saying "if you lived at the apartment with one room, you will barely fit your stuff in two bedroom apartment".

Ps i packed clothes in bags to save on boxes also easy to roll down steps lol
I used my duffle bags for books and stationary 👌 Here at the apartment, it's used for storage till I figure out what to sell.
Right! I didn't even take clothes off of hangers i rolled them together then put in the duffle.
I used trash bags, just put a bag from under tie a knot at the top and then just hang them in the closet at the new place and off the trash bag...done save time and boxes
When you get to you new home, dont buy alot staff. Get staff slowly. When i moved i got excited and bought unnecessary staff lol.

Glass cabinet can be found at IKEA. Similar one is called Detolf.
If we haven't used stuff in the last year I get rid of it. I make sure I go through kids clothes often. I donate toys often.

PURGE like crazy as you pack! That’s what I did and even so, when I unpacked I still found things that either didn’t fit in the new place or that I realized I didn’t need anymore. It’s so much fun to organize the cabinets in a new place and not have them crammed with stuff. I’m sure looking forward to the tour video!

I've moved twice, each time I got rid of half of my belongings. I only have left what I actually use. Amazing what is really unimportant junk that's accumulated.

Girl, I FEEL YOU!!! I home school my 3 kids and 7 other a total of 10, and we move this week. Yes the week of Thanksgiving and I'm cooking a big dinner. But instead of feeling overwhelmed I feel so blessed and grateful to God!

I would use trash bags and also make use of your furniture to help you move. Soft items are fine in plastic bags, even books if they are strong bags. Also suitcases and backpacks. And keep things in drawers or other small manageable storage and just move the drawer as a whole.

One more hint: check on Craigslist or your local Buy-Sell-Trade site. Lots of times people who have just moved want to get rid of all their boxes and paper and will either sell them cheaply or give them away. We’ve moved lots of times when my husband’s job transferred us from state to state. After unpacking I always flattened and organized the boxes and offered them up online for very cheap prices. I also flattened every single piece of packing paper and gave it away. You may get lucky and find someone who has just unpacked and wants their boxes gone.
I moved from Alaska to New York after being in AK my entire life. I wanted to keep so much but my adult son had to be the wise one and decide on the difficult items for me. It made it much easier. I helped my brother do the same thing one year. He got rid of a truck full of stuff. (Most things donated to thrift stores)

I'm so excited!!! I got rid of a lot to someone really cool and nice. Girl didn't trip when I was wanting a different price for a lot I listed so I could pay my phone bill, so I added a TON of good stuff for her family, especially the kids who are little and doing virtual school. I'm moving the rest of my stuff out of the house, and I enjoy blessing someone who's actually a good person. This chick is doing the virtual schooling for her two boys and her two nieces!! 😱♥️

i LOVE to declutter! i do it at least twice a year. i live in a really small apartment with zero storage space in london with 2 roommates so there's no room for any extra stuff😂 i can't function in a cluttered space so keeping on top of it is really important for us😊 good luck with your move🥳

Decluttering is getting rid of unnecessary items..to me. 😁 I'm like that I tend to hold onto items that I "think" I'll use or might need. But I never do. Once I get rid of it than I'll feel better. I'm so excited for you and your family. I know you all have been waiting for a whole to move. Perfect timing, especially with the little man😘😘 coming (I think your having a boy). Decluttering is something I do through out the year. The biggest clutter I typically have is papers🤦♀️🤦♀️ I have so many papers from the kids school, old Bill's I dodnt throw away, but I am determined by the time we move again less junk. If you’re not using it,it’s only taking up space for the things that you can use oh Brillo pads do a good job on the bottoms of pans ,and it helps your cooking time when you’re cooking when there’s no built of grease on their bottoms I was a professional cook tip 😊🙏🏾

Get boxes from wherever and leave them outside/in the sun for 3 days. If you spray it with lysol, 1 day.
I do the same thing for decluttering, I try to go through the toys every 4 months or so and get rid of whatever the kids don't play with LOL, I'm so excited for you guys, can't wait to see the new house

Decluttering for me is discarding things I no longer need. Or things I had bought on impulse, kept out of guilt for wasting money then the decluttering is the stage where I just accept I have learned a valuable lesson - wait, do I need it or just want it. When you die you can’t take the stuff with you, so only keep a few things that you like, everything else is rubbish. Wish my husband and 3 children has the same mindset - there’ll be a lot less rubbish here!

My problem with decluttering is the "I want this" and the "I might need this later" stuff... If I find a good deal or sale I tend to buy in twos. I'm a mess. Haha

That is so cute and precious to see your children helping you pack. I like to take my time and downsize. I also like that I can do a little tlc where I need to as I clean. I use storage bins cause I have moved so much and boxes just did not work out for me.
