Provost is a Scottish term meaning Mayor, so Abram Lyle was a Mayor, he's got his own page on Wikipedia.

According to the Oxford Dictionary Provost is from both the Olde English profost and the Norman French...which is from the Latin praepositus.

Interesting your encouragement today...this would have been my wedding anniversary but my wife passed 5 years ago. Why it is interesting is that her dad was 100 percent Scottish descent and her mom was of French descent! Was actually kind of nice to see the area of her family background so to speak! Thanks from the California Central coast!

Stirling!!!! It is one of my favorite castles.
The color of the keep is a lyme wash called Kings Gold. And the walls were once lyme washed pink! We were told that chapel is set to the cardinal directions and modeled after solomons temple.
We were there the end of August 2006, 17 yrs ago for our Honeymoon. I pulled out the photo album to show my kids. My 12 and 13 yr olds marveled at what little change there has been made to the hunting grounds. I have a picture standing in the exact spot you stood to film. *deep sigh* someday i will get to return.

Hello Provost Family. What an amazing adventure for your family! Miles has had so many wonderful opportunities to learn about the history in so many places. Something that he can always remember. Having filmed all the places your family has been, is just awesome! Thank you for sharing this with us! We would never have seen such beautiful things and places had it not been for you sharing them! If you research and find if your Provost is related to the Provost on the fountain; please share it with us! Certainly interesting! Take care and we love you too ❤️ Bizebeegranny Jeanne and Dave Rose ❤️🌹❤️

So many beautiful places to hike in Scotland! 🎶 You’ll tak the high road an’ I’ll tak the low road and I’ll be in Scotland afor ye, or me and my true love will never meet again on the bonny bonny banks of Loch Lomand.🎶 Fun story - when we were in Scotland, my sister drove us through to Stirling and driving through the town to the castle, she hit a curb and the hub cap fell off. So I had to jump out of the car and chase it down a hill. From that we learned to always rent cars from the airport because they zip-tie the hub caps on. Because… tourists! 🤣

It's been such an opportunity to be on this World Tour with you guys learning all this history behind these countries. Miles sure has some amazing parents who are educating him on this and I'm so happy he gets to have this once in a lifetime experience. Chris, that story of Mary was quite fascinating with Stirling Castle. What I have been learning on this World Tour with you guys are the stories behind these castles that have a rich history. I just want to say that having been following your channel has been such an amazing experience and I can't get enough of your videos as I've been sharing it with family and friends.

Hey Chris and Amanda and Miles (hope I spelt that right) I am a Scotsman who watches you from afar and really enjoys your vlogs especially from Orlando and California as that’s where my family and i vacation the most, April 24 next visit, but to see you in Scotland was amazing. We have often been to Stirling castle as it’s just up the road from us but you missed soooo much more in that area for example at 13:34 you look out to the distance and you can see the monument of one of our greatest hero’s, you actually mention him in the vlog, Sir William Wallace and also the battle field where one of our greatest victories as a nation took place, The Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 anyway if you ever come back to Scotland let me know and I can tell you about so many places to go to historical and even great film locations. Anyway enjoy the rest of your trip and by the way, your cruise ship more or less goes by my house as you head to Ireland. Pointless fact 🤣

So happy that the Provost family has been taking us on a world tour this summer and bringing us along with them. It gives me warm feelings when they've gone to places I've visited and makes me excited about those I have't been to yet.

The Flemish also have an enormous connection with Scotland and also england. Since 1100s though some even went during 1100s ( some even came over with william the conqueror) because of the insane wealth and expertise in wool and wool manufacturing. The region back then called Flanders incorporated a lot of northern france because from 950-1450 the Flanders region was insanely wealthy with wool and later other industry(ghent, Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp, Malines, Tournai, Cambrai and so onto name a few) and was part of the Burgundian chief holdings. Very fascinating.
Also "provost" comes from the Old English Profost, meaning the Local Governor or the representative of the king in a country or district. Provost is also present in Old French Cognate provost which has its origins from latin ( because french, just like italian, spanish and Portuguese are from the Italic family tree.. which is fancy academic speak for all those languages have their roots in Latin) and that is Propositus or praepositus ( both forms and writing style have been used, sometimes together) which means chief, leader of a region. It is also found in Old German probost ( which is the same writing as the provencal Probost). All mean the same thing: the governor/leader /law appointed by the king, despite German being of the Germanic language group ( where English , German, Dutch, and others are "children of"). That means your last name is an old one and, just like mine you will probably have some far flung relatives and family ties.
You also have, but that is in 1500s, the "provost marshal" which was the military leader of an area tasked to keep the peace and law + order, throughout Europe.
Thank you for the wonderful videos.

If anyone is looking for a TLDR, Kings and Queens used to take dumps in front of a room full of people. Servants would clean up their doo doo from under their throne. It's still unknown whether the stench would fill the room or not.

Here's an interesting little thought, my family's clan still has a tower that remains in Scotland. Ardencaple. The clan sold off the remainder back in the 1700s and since then it's gone through fire and destruction and all that is left standing is one singular tower but that tower used to belong to my clan, MacAulay. Look it up, the original Castle photo is still there.

My dad's direct line hails from Fintry in Stirlingshire, which is about 16 miles southwest of Stirling. We spent two weeks in the UK (Scotland and England) in early June. Our second full day in Edinburgh (6 June) was a tour out to see the Kelpies, Loch Lomond, and Stirling Castle.
The rock you sat on at 24:30, I'm pretty sure I also sat on during our visit to the "beach". Such a good spot for skipping rocks.
Stirling Castle was my favorite castle from our trip. We didn't visit as many as you are, but it was great. I only wish we had more time there. Only had about 1.5 hours since lunch took longer than we expected, and we took a slight detour to see some highland cows (aka hairy coos).
One thing I noticed in your video, is there were far more people in the castle. At one point, I was the only person in the great hall.

During the Great Scott war, Doc went back in time with a futuristic super powerful bowling ball and tried to distract the warring nation in order to save Marty McFly's ancestors. Turns out the McFlys were seen as pests that bit horses and fed them French Fries. Doc introduced the Scotts to what he called The Super Bowl, but impressing the king with his first cast. It tore through the wall like the Kool Aid man. The Scotts were so impressed by Doc's arm that for a long time they called it the Super Bowl Hole, and invented the word "caste" to celebrate Doc's achievement. Locals call it Mary's hole, because the locals are pretty cheeky. And to do this day, Doc celebrates this moment by exclaiming "Great Scott!"

I would live next to a cemetery, I often visit where my grandparents are buried in Omaha.

Love this video! I visited Scotland with part of my family a long while back but we saw Stirling castle a couple times while we were there because it was so close to where we stayed (near Dumbarton). The views were amazing! We didn't hike but we rode ponies in the Trossachs near Loch Lomond. It was so fun. Those ponies though, they were massive! More muscle-y than a horse. Such a beautiful area and the people were so kind and friendly. Loved it

Mum loved Stirling castle, she'd have had so many stories about the place for you... she never got the chance to take me there tho. Thanks for showing us around! Nothing wrong with the Beatles not being to your taste :P Gotta respect their place in musical history but you don't have to enjoy their music!

I can't leave the castle and I have to potty in a bucket in front of all my party guests?? I don't think I would have wanted to be a queen haha.

I’m not much of a fan of suburbia but I sometimes go for hikes to the local river or near where I live cause it’s all dairy country.
I would hike more often but I don’t drive so it’s difficult to get places.
