Once heard Larnell Lewis play bass in church - mind blown. I had no idea he was a drummer and even better at the drums. Save some talent for the rest of us dude:)
Been drumming for 20 years. Good time keeper, got some funk in my pocket, hip-hop, funk rock, afro-beat driven. But funkin hell man would i love some lessons from Larnell. Drummers like this fuck my head up, man! but totally inspire me also. What an awsome drummer and seems like a cool guy..
I admired how they didn't slop it up playing ride cymbals at the same time , snare , etc. Kept it clean. 2 drummers can be a mess. Very tasty. No surprise.
I've been playing sporadically with a multi-kit "group" for many years now, and you've hit on the thing which makes more than one kit player difficult to pull off. Yes, Lewis and Williams played around each other, a sign both understand music as much as they do their instrument. It's very easy to find drummers who don't understand how to orchestrate their parts to music they're playing. I'm a drummer, and I struggle with it even when I'm the only drummer on the stage at the moment...
