  • I filmed this towards the end of a fishing trip yesterday... basically, I had spent a majority of the day watching catfish approach my baits then swim off (I suspect it was because my perch was 3 days old instead of fresh, which I usually try to bring.)
As I was watching a small catfish investigate one of my baits on the left side of the screen, a large blob suddenly rose from the bottom. I initially assumed it was a school of bait fish, until it started swimming away, then turned around to investigate my bait.
I upgraded my livescope transducer to the LVS34 a few months ago, so it's pretty good at separating schools of small fish. Was I looking at a school of bait or a massive 5' (100+ lb) catfish at the bottom of the lake? What do y'all think?

I’m back at it today with some shad and fresh perch, trying to locate that one again!

Yeah that is more than likely a big catfish. I also have the LVS34 going thru a 1022xsv and if it were a huge gar or paddlefish the image would definitely show the snout.

At first, I didn't really think the LVS34 upgrade was worth it, but the more I've used it, the more I've liked it. The level of detail that it provides is amazing... I will probably upgrade my head unit in the next 12-18 months to something with higher resolution and also to have the ability to record livescope without having to use a GoPro.

Yea, I was a little in shock. I really thought it was a bait ball until it turned around and started swimming towards my line. Sadly, it just sniffed my bait and swam away 😢

I've got a Garmin Echomap 93SV for the head unit and upgraded to the LVS34 transducer a few months back. After using it for a few months, I do think the LVS34 gives sharper returns and does a better job separating out smaller targets (such as bait and jigs). I'll probably upgrade the head unit at the end of the year so I can get something with higher resolution and video output, so I can get better video of the livescope.

@@mackbeasley71 If you crappie fish much, they will take you're game to the next level. I just like being able to see / tell what's swimming around me. When you spend time with the unit, you start to recognize sizes / shapes / swimming styles for different species. You'll also learn a lot about fish behavior that you can't really see on a 2D unit. For example, I had no idea how often catfish come up to my bait, smell it, then swim off. I always just assumed if I wasn't getting bites, there weren't fish around.

I caught a 52 lber in the same area back in mid December. Of course, I had just bought the GoPros two weeks earlier, but didn't feel like messing with them yet. D'oh! You never know what you might see (or catch) while out on the water...

I mean, unless it's a teenage mutant ninja turtle, I don't know if I've ever seen and 4-5' long freshwater turtles in NC 😂
