    Welcome back, glad to see you making darktable content again! I like your new studio setup, your light-muted background looks great and it serves it’s purpose well.
    Interesting darktable development. I have not update to the new version yet because of the “update warning” related to having to do a backup due to the lack of backward incompatibility, meaning (to me) that previous edits would be lost in the new version. I probably misunderstood that but don’t know for sure, so sort of at a standstill and still using the last version. Look forward to earning more of this new version!

      One thing I've noticed straight away is how much of a difference it makes that this room is painted light grey, as opposed to my old room which was a soft pastel yellow. Trying to colour correct my headshot was so much harder in the old room! Here, it just seems to come together in no time at all.
      Someone else suggested an accent light on the bookshelf, which I'm thinking I'm going to do, too.

    Useful for lens correction. Not sure I'd have any other use for it.

      Yeah, it's not a feature I see myself using either.

      Yeah, I saw that when I was editing the video.
      Talk about rusty! Forgot to set my camera up properly! :)
      The next one is better.

    Wally, good to see you back!! One thing you might consider: The grey background may be good for processing, but it is not for viewing on TH-cam. Could you do two things for any presentation - 1. To make the background black, and 2. Give a yellow halo around the pointer, so it becomes convenient to see where the cursor is. Thanks

    • @audio2u
      @audio2u  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The background I can do, although the grey is meant to give your eyes a better sense of what middle grey should be. As for the mouse pointer, I'll have to look into that.

    Thanks for the video Bruce, it's great you're back. Very helpful video.
    I was thinking, perhaps a video descussing your change from Mint to Manjaro would good.

    • @audio2u
      @audio2u  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not going to do that, because it's not really about darktable, and I'm very keen on keeping the channel content "on-topic" (with the very occasional digressions to hugin for pano-stitching, and things like that).
      As for why I switched, that came as a recommendation from Coding Dave who has been helping me to compile dt from source. We hit a bit of a glitch where dt required a newer version of some dependency, but the Mint team had not moved Mint on to that newer version (whatever the dependency was, it was also used by the OS). This caused a conundrum where the OS wanted version X, but dt needed at least version X+1. Dave suggested moving to Manjaro because it's a rolling release and likely to stay more current than mint will.

      @@audio2u Thanks for the explanation.
      I recently changed to linux, I'm trying out Manjaro XFCE edition now.

    Looks useful for event processing, e.g. motorsport meet, wedding etc. Also you have a ND filter that introduces a colour cast you need to correct etc. Also could perhaps automate monochrome conversion to imitate a certain film stock?
    Thanks for the tutorial, welcome back. Hope you have settled in to your new situation.

      Thanks Berny. Yeah, lots of ways to use the feature. But I have to admit, I don't know that I'll have much use for it.

    I often think that DT results are better than from all others.

    • @audio2u
      @audio2u  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have come to believe that over the 8 years I've been using it. Once you learn a little about colour science (and I'll openly admit, my understanding is minimal), you realise how much other software allows users to just "crank everything to 11" without knowing how badly they're screwing it up!

  • @twobicycles

    Very helpful! I foresee using this to apply denoise correction to my high ISO images. I'll play with this to find out, but it remains unclear whether any saved module setting will be applied to images already in the catalog which meet the specified criteria.

    • @audio2u
      @audio2u  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it won't. Auto-applied presets only get automatically applied at the time of import.

    Hi Wally, thx for this tut again. But my version stopped at 4.2.1. Any idea idea what happened to the repository "ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/darktable" for Ubuntu basaed stuff, like MINT? Thx

    • @audio2u
      @audio2u  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can't say for sure, but I suspect that this might be the very same reason Coding Dave suggested I move from Mint to Majaro. There was a dependency which was used by both Mint and darktable, and the Mint dev team has not moved forward as quickly as the darktable dev team has.
      So there's this piece of software where Mint wants version X, but dt demands at least version X+1. But upgrading to version X+1 could break Mint.
