    Great video, thanks. I'm doing my due diligence before investing in my first laser engraver. On the autofocus issue, in the clip you showed it operating there was a bow in the material that could be an issue.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the autofocus was miscalculating the distance even with no material. Atezr confirmed the issue and was apparently working on a fix.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it uses a contactor, so even if the material is bowed a bit it should still focus. Regardless, even if that was a an issue, autofocus on diode lasers is totally pointless. It’s way faster and more accurate to do it yourself

    Good afternoon. Looking to buy my first laser engraver. I have watched a ot of your videos. I have narrowed it down to 3 lasers just wanted to get your opinion on the 3. First on Sculpfun S30 Pro Max. Second The Atezr P20 Plus. Third Atezr L2 24w. I have watched the one you can put crosshairs on the laser with the ones that dont have one. All 20w lasers. Thanks for your help.

    • @SteveMakesEverything

      This is always a tough choice. I’d drop the P20 since the L2 is a better choice. Then it probably comes down to features and price between the other two lasers

    Hi Steve, it seems that folks say that you can't cut clear acrylic with a diode laser. As the guru of all things laser, have you found this to be the case? I have an Atezr L2 36W, my attempts so far kinda cut through but the acrylic seems to 'heal' itself as it progresses through the job, i.e. the cuts melt back together. Any advice? Kind regards, Eddie

    • @SteveMakesEverything

    I tried to click the Homing button...its goes up and down then buzzes and doesnt move. Same noise trying to move it with the arrows. Is there some kind of lock I'm supposed to undo?😊

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's no mechanical lock, but start with the basics.
      - Buzzing usually indicates that there is something blocking movement so check for jams in the rollers and rails
      - With the power off, make sure you can easily move the laser head along the x and y.
      - Check both ends of the cables to make sure they are still plugged in properly (this is less likely if you hear buzzing).

    Steve interesting video! I'm not really looking for a new laser, but I figured what the heck, I'll watch it anyway.. A couple of things caught my attention. The crosshair.. I didn't know that there was an adjustment for it where you can make it very accurate. This makes me think you could affix something small and somewhat pointy (like a bent paperclip) to the laser and use that as a substitute for a laser crosshair for someone who doesn't have that option. The auto focus being slow.. I know there are G-code settings for things like homing speed, work area size, ect.. Maybe there is a G-code setting where you could speed it up? Just a thought.. Thanks, Eric

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, you could glue a nail or a paperclip to the side of the laser and use that (it's a really awesome idea, actually). I’m very excited about this machine! It’s absolutely the nicest, most feature rich one currently available imho, especially at the sale price! I can’t wait for mine to arrive. I’m eager to know your thoughts on the difference(s) between LaserGRBL vs LightBurn. Is LightBurn worth paying for?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The L2 is a fine laser, and if you can get it on sale, it's a steal. Also check out the AlgoLaser Alpha and Delta - they probably have the best laser module available today. Their 24W laser cut like a 30W and still offers excellent engraving detail.
      Regarding laserGRBL, I never use it because it's free but a bit clunky in my view. As for Lightburn, yes it is worth the money because it is easy to use and handles many of the design requirements for laser work if you don't want to use a more powerful/complicated graphic design tool.

    do you think the auto-focus feature will be adjusted via firmware?
    im in the market deciding between L2 24W and P20, not sure if the L2 is worth it or not because the value the P20 represents currently (can pretty much get a bed + extension rails + money in pocket for the price of the L2).
    the auto-focus feature, the ability to only turn on laser fans when its being used (quietness as you mentioned) and the lightburn controlled air assist are the three big ones, but it also just looks like an even sturdier unit.

    • @SteveMakesEverything

    Hi! Enjoying your reviews, while I try to narrow down my choices (maybe too many).

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The L2 is a decent engraver and can even do true grayscale pretty well. The Acmer may have a slight edge, but I tend not to play much with settings since I’m interested in how lasers perform out of the box, so no doubt tweaking settings a bit on the L2 will make it produce the same sort of output

  • @jamescullins2709
    @jamescullins2709 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks great! I wonder if I could adapt the head to my Aetzr P10. I don't like the swing-down thing for setting focus. With auto-focus, you need to know the correct focus distance for the laser head you are using. Then a way to measure the current distance. Maybe a laser distance-measuring chip with an analog output would be a start...

    Nice review. I am in the market for a 20 watt laser and just saw this review. I have been considering the Creality Falcon 2. Seems to be a similar machine but no auto focus. It does come almost completely assembled though. Why don’t more manufacturers offer that. Seems like it would reduce returns from assembly issues.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว

      It has to do with the size of the it would require to ship it assembled. Bigger box - bigger shipping cost. For the most part assembly of these is pretty straightforward, so to don’t think they run into many assembled related support issues.
      The Creality laser is a decent product, but between the two I would pick the Atezr, assuming I had the budget.

    Nice review. WAY too expensive especially with things like Roly out there that include the enclosure, rotary, etc. Led's on the front seems just like a gimmick to have pretty lights. How usable is it really? Laser shows 20% or 100% you still dont want to stick your hand in there and there is no way to adjust it unless you stop and redo the settings.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Roly is only a 10W laser so it will certainly be cheaper than this one - though I think the Roly is expensive for a 10W. No question the L2 is a bit pricey though.
      I kind of share your view on the led light on the front of the laser. It’s only for status, and is a nice touch, but realistically Lightburn will tell you what you’ve set the power too.

      Nope not at all. Pay what you want for your laser. NEJE lasers are fine products and if that works for you that’s all that matters. However for clarity, the 24w Atezr L2 is $1400 not $1600. Also the $1000 NEJE E80 is a 20w laser not a 40w. It has no autofocus or limit switches and isn’t nearly as fast - the L2 can engrave at 5400mm/min vs 24000 on the NEJE.
