I've been following your Chanel for years. Your content is phenomenal. My children are able to watch your videos without risk of foul language. You are a class act. Please keep it up.
We used to save those up all summer and then do a week end trot lining with them. I think we would roll them in cornmeal before freezing to keep them from sticking. They were better fresh but always worked well regardless. We used to trim the trees down to make all the limbs accessible with a short step ladder. They would get bushier every year. Brings back a lot of memories from my "yout"
Rapala filet knife, first year 1967. Mine must be close to that year. It was my dads and I don't remember when he didn't have it. Leather sheath with the fish tail at the end. That one looked as sharp as a razor, as is mine.
It is amazing how fast they grow...you caught one on video pooping. If you stand close to the tree that has a good infestation, it will literally sound like it is raining - caterpillar poop that is. Great bait, but a very short window to harvest them. Many freeze them, but they will live quite some time in the refrigerator.🐛 That bluff you camped across from was beautiful...gotta love nature. 👍👍
I was told by one of my uncles that fished with them that if you know where there is a catalpa tree that doesn't have the caterpillars to take a dozen or so from another tree that does and seed the tree that's without. He would collect them during their active season and freeze them in cornmeal for the rest of the year. The cornmeal kept them from sticking together and becoming a frozen block of worms. RIP Uncle Henry.
There is a Catalpa tree just south of Burkesville KY on the bank Cumberland River where you can catch a limit of big trout with a green and black rooster tail during the Catalpa hatch. The trout hang out under the tree just waiting for the them to drop into the water. I have done it several times.
As a kid in early 70’s would help my dad fill up half gallon paper milk jugs with them. He froze them for later use. Used cane poles to knock them down
Good stuff Catman! Nothing like frying up some fresh catfish on the river bank with a campfire and a whipporwhill singing in the background. That's the best part of summer.
I knowed some old fellars, including my old man, used to call them "Patalka" worms, or Patalca worms, haha. And they also call a mimosa tree, a firmosa, but that's them old briar hoppers or billhillys for you. Don't matter what anybody says, most folks knows what their talking about, for the most part. We've got Catalpa trees all around here and i used to check them all every year and never saw the first worm on any of them. I don't know, maybe it was something to do with the tree or something..
Important to get your deep fry oil hot enough to sizzle when you drop batter fish in, or the filet will turn into an oil sponge. You can test it with a tiny piece of fish. Looks delicious. I score the filet skin on the fish, peel it off with pliers, then cut the filet off. Fresh fish hard to beat. Good to have the bowfishing rig at the ready, if the environment becomes target rich for carp or gar.
Remember getting those with my Grandpa and catfishing. In right now, in Missouri, the mulberries are are at their peak. And if they're dropping in the water, the catfish will be there and the carp. Also, we just had a double dose of cicadas, and the fishing has been good.
I’ve done 2 river island overnight trips where we catfish and they were both an awesome experience, although we never ate the fish on site (we did take the home). This brings me back to those trips. Catfishing is so much fun and even better if you can share with a few friends and family. They usually battle well too! Those sandwiches looked amazing
Easiest way to get the worms on branches you can't reach is to throw a stick up to hit the branch. They will come raining down. Used to do it every summer at my cousin's house. All kinds of fish like them. Thanks for the video.
I saw someone say they love the catch and cooks - I do too. My favorite of yours was the smallmouth bass and potato hash shoreside along a beautiful creek.
Years ago when my brother ran trot lines he and a buddy would lay an old bed sheet under the tree. Then they beat the branches with 10-12 ft bamboo poles to knock the worms out onto the sheet. Easy pickup. I knew about 2 trees, one would bloom, the other didn't. Every year the one that bloomed had worms, the one that didn't never had a worm.
I’ve come across one hanging out over the water. Bluegill and small catfish hanging out under it. You’d hook a bluegill and the catfish would be trying to steal the lure out of their mouths. It’d be funny seeing them hang out of a bluegills mouth and they’d still be trying to eat everything that fell in.
Knocked out a many tawba worms with a cane pole Always put some in a small butter bowel to freeze for fall fishing. We fish the deep side of the creeks in the shade to mop up on those cats. Great video Hammer Down Catman
I have three big catalpa trees by my house. North eastern Ohio. I need to check to see if these worms are on them. The flowers just popped out the last couple weeks.
One of the best baits here in Southeast Missouri back in the day.. I say back in the day because the farmers have killed everything around here. Haven't seen one since mid 1980's
Can we get a tour of this boat? I love tiller steer old school boats. Just don’t know what they are called, or info We had a 14’ flat bottom Jon growing up
A ole timer told me that you could take extra "Catawba" worms, put them in a freezable container, cover the worms in cornmeal, and freeze them for later in the year...?

I'm a hearing it too!

I'm between Eunice and Opelousas
@@ronaldcourville6472 howdy neighbor. Lol
Had one at my Pawpaw‘s house Shreveport, Louisiana in the 80s
Turkeys absolutely love Catalpa tree seed, they visit my trees every winter/ late spring until they eat all the seeds.
What was in the jar before you added the oil?

We pulled the end off and used a skewer to turn them inside out. Best bait.

I’ve been watching your videos recently with my three and five-year-old daughters, and they love it! Especially the fishing videos!
Just missed the part where he packs his antler hole.pipe and fires it up lol
Love it! Catman getting back to his roots.
It's great to see you rod-and-reeling catfish again on the river! Hope you do another trip soon. Best, Chris

Here in eastern KY everyone calls em Toppy worms.

Billy Strings! Awesome!
Thanks for sharing the Hotpepper oil. Gonna try it tonight.
Nice fishing 🎣 😊 and good looking catfish fillet sandwiches 🥪 😊
Looks like the KY river, parts of it. Now some places there looks like the Licking river.
Knocked out a many tawba worms with a cane pole

Great video
Hammer Down Catman
Nice fishing and shorelunch. I'm a little jealous, West Nile got all of our whip-poor-wills in Southern Illinois. Hopefully they make a comeback.
Catman, I want a garden video. I know you have a magnificent garden.
I used to catch big bluegills with these when I was very young.
Great video buddy. You keep up the good work and you will make a living at this someday and God bless

Love these fishing videos!
Have some potato salad with cat fish oh so good!!!!
Wish our hatches were this early. For whatever reason ours is always late.
My grandfather had ~100 plants
Looks really good. Nice job🎉
A Tip! Put your rod in the back of the boat and sit in the front to make easier to hook the fish?????
Us a long cane pole to get the ones we used
Catawba worms are so juicy… tempted to eat them myself 😂
Made me hungry just watching .
Years ago that’s all we fished with and caught everything in the river
I miss fishing with them we had a tree but they all left years ago
5 star good job
You about starved me watching you put the pepper oil on that fish lol.
Good stuff!!!
Missing that sliced mater man!
Can we get a tour of this boat?
I love tiller steer old school boats. Just don’t know what they are called, or info
We had a 14’ flat bottom Jon growing up
I like you ! Catch and release in the cooler! Heck yea. I just subscribed
A ole timer told me that you could take extra "Catawba" worms, put them in a freezable container, cover the worms in cornmeal, and freeze them for later in the year...?
You should try chicken liver best catfish bait
Catfish 🍬 candy!
I had a Bettle spin that color and caught tons of Large mouth.
What all was in the hot pepper oil?
The dirty 🦆!
This is 2 years in a row that neither one of my trees have had worms on them
Catawba or Tamba worms.
Shoowee!!
