Do you think the feet are for another Tower section or two that will be added to the lineup for Tower two, or will these just be scrapped?
I think that the feet are for OLM 2.0
🤩🤩🤩🤩
It seems that the launch tower will need a major redesign to focus on catching, while the newer one will be used for launching. This will affect the water deluge system and the flame trench.
1:35 - Great pun Felix :D
I think so... one more section!
So that’s what the kids are calling it these days, “Slapping the booster”
"It's fully erect and loaded!"
If you slap the booster too much you can go blind
Also, if you slap the booster too much, it won't get any taller.
We all need humor in these crazy times. Thanks.
Tower is stacking, booster is slapped...
"Incredible news"
They're getting ready for the first catch attempt so I'd agree, it is good news, I'm excited to see them go for a catch on flight 5.
I agree. WAI loses its credibility everytime it sensationalizes minor updates to get quick views because they are too impatient to wait for critical news.
@@casualuser5527I agree that he hypes up a lot and always tries to be a little hyperactive in his videos, and one may like that or not, but that ain't it. The second tower and the booster catches are among the most important stuff right now in this program. Absolutely valid to get hyped about the arms slapping a test vehicle.
Totally agree, I got past the 12th minute and still looking to hear about the incredible news. That's misleading.
Love the “7 of 9” usage.
Ok, we got to have a picture of Jeri Ryan somewhere in all of that
Resistance is futile!
Resistance is futile!
I chuckled haha
You know you are part of a light minded, but in the end still committed community of men, when you hear this stupid 7 of 9 reference and you're not the first to make a comment.
We have the confirmation from NASA that the deorbit vehicle will be a modified dragon - not a starship
That makes the most sense.
Why aren’t they just burning the engine on ISS?
@@user-on8lp5zx5k not enough power to deorbit the station using its own thrusters... they will need something like dragon to have enough DeltaV to deorbit it
@@user-on8lp5zx5k Not enough power. They don't need much thrust - any serious engine would rip the ISS apart - but when it comes to the final descent, they do need to decelerate as quickly as possible to ensure it comes down in the right place. The bottom of the South Pacific is a big target, but the faster it's orbiting, the less precision they've got... the more it slows, the steeper the trajectory, and the more precise the impact point.
The FAA needs to be advised about the crane because it is tall enough for someone to fly into.
Same as with radio towers.
So... I can take off my tin foil hat?
Thanks, I did wonder.
I should have mentioned that separately. I thought this was clear. I'm a pilot stuck in a bubble. :D
A bit too clickbaity of a start
Annoyingly it's the name of the game.
@@gyratingwolpertiger6851 i could understand it for unique events. But for a routine news "show", where most of the viewers are subscribers and frequent enjoyers, it's a bit annoying.
Totally agree, I got past the 12th minute and still looking to hear about the incredible news. That's misleading.
Anything 200 feet or higher requires FAA clearance and special warning lights. That is why Expedition Everest at Walt Disney World is 199.5 feet tall.
And the Mickey Ferris Wheel at Disneyland is partially in the water. To keep it just below 200ft
"but first, I wanna tell you how to improve-" Yeah yeah, automatic 30s skip
2:25 foot pic reference was perfect! Haha😂
He's finally learning to speak the mother tongue
I almost spit out my coffee!
That was funny 😂
That one got me, too. Felix owes me a keyboard.
2:45 you got it all wrong, there are portable toilets
😁🥂
That's some HUUUUUGE porta-johns. Be like a marble bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, shower stall, full vanity.... Come to think of it, you might be right. that seems like the kinda thing Musk would order.
@CarpeUniversum well Musk is flush with cash... 😊
@@seriousmaran9414 😝👏
Heavy metal toilets! 🤘
Seven of Nine LOL😂
Right??? Such a perfect startrek joke line up.. glad I’m not the only one. 😂
Yeah he teed that up pretty well lol
Glad you laughed with me! :D
I'm confused. How does a leaky space suit indicate an aging space station?
The reason they'll give for deorbiting the ISS is it's too expensive to maintain, while at the same time they want more money for "diversity in space"
because sending a black lesbian to the moon is more important than upgrading the ISS. I'm really starting to hate NASA.
It’s all from the same age.
The suits at the station are original to the station... On top of that, they are a 40 year old design straight from Apollo.
Alles Gute! Danke Felix
I had given up on osiris-rex news after a few months of "the capsule's back on earth, but we're still figuring out how to open it" XD Thanks for the update!
:D True!
Kudos to the editor(s ?) who worked hard on adding the _little extra_ in the whole video ! NOICE ! Captain
Fire breathing wizard should be the name of the first Starship that SpaceX sends to Mars.
I love your videos! Excellent coverage!
Noticed the 1 less plug thanks WAI
You bet!
Keep up the great work, WAI TEAM! Love the videos!
The 7, the 9, the two Towers... one rocket to rule them all, my Captain?
Was there an editing issue immediately after "Starship updates" title card? Why'd we get a second "things we'll cover" in there for items unrelated to starship?
It looks like a rendering issue more than an editing issue Adobe has a tendency to be annoying lol.
They say, "Space debris."
I say, "Valuable recyclable materials already in orbit."
Glad you're back Felix
Thanks for the good news
Nice job
My guess why only certain areas are getting the ablative underlayer and the nose DIDN'T, is because the nose is a high-flow (no restrictions) area and there is minimal heat buildup as a result. _(or minimum risk of tiles falling off)_
Whereas the belly is much wider, so slightly more restriction to plasma flow. Plus the flaps, introducing even more restrictive pathing.
In order to get enough fuel into space, the size of the Starship will have to be taller. There is a benefit to a longer rocket body in the harmonics of the vibrations. My first guess was the Starship is about 1/3 of the needed size. The problem with getting up into those wind channels is overcoming high wind issues. This may cause a limit for the max length of the rocket. Some think a changing to a 15 meter diameter, but that will come will more engines and a great complexity. The only limits SpaceX faces are imagination and basic physics.
Another channel did a size analysis, and 12 meters was the optimum size. the wind sheer issue is fixed by not flying in bad wind sheer, which is the case no matter how big or small it is.
I would like to thank you for the best starship news on TH-cam. I enjoy watching your content and love everything you do.
I name the lifting vehicle "THE KONG CRANE!"
Love the content Felix!
SpaceX does like learning by building extras, Captain.
The vertical tank farm was one of Elons few bad decisions. I remember him saying "why are we renting all these tanks when we make tanks for a living"
Most of the largest reverses or problems that SpaceX has suffered can be traced back to a captain's call by Musk.
@@kersebleptes1317 and the fact the company exists at all comes back to the biggest captains call he ever made when he decided to fund both spacex and tesla.
I don't think it was a bad decision, without the vertical tank farm, the early test campaign wouldn't have happened as soon as it did.
Without the vertical tanks, the belly flop maneuver wouldn't have been tested.
Every test and innovation brings results, just because they are removing the tanks now doesn't mean they had no value.
To continue to use the vertical tanks now would fall into the "sunk cost fallacy". They contributed value when they were needed, now to keep them functioning would be sunk cost.
At the time the tanks were built, SpaceX couldn't get adequate tanks to support the test campaign, but now they finally have purpose built horizontal tank farms and the vertical tanks are obsolete.
@@kersebleptes1317 he makes literally every decision so you can say this for the things that work out just as much as the things that don’t. They are learning as they go
It’s possible that the tiles on the nose cone are glued in place and not relying on pins.
Crushed the timing to catch this right away this morning! Great way to start the day!!
Love the 7 of 9 reference
Looks like Space X will be busy for many years.
Incredible channel
Much, much better Felix. Solid space news from start to finish. Very watchable. Thank you!
The tower designed to catch the rocket does not necessarily have to be the same one used for launching it.
It does need to be the same to achive rapid reusability .
@@FrankGardner-ep9ih Agreed.
But, first SpaceX must perfect the landing catch. Then it will optimize the workflow of landing/catching/relaunching. So, for some time, instead of risking the launch tower, it must iron out the issues of catching a 100+ ton artifact from mid air.
@@FrankGardner-ep9ihwill never happen
@@BokoMoko65they need to actually get a rocket into space that's useful.. so far still not seeing it
@@demcomp Agreed. Please note that both the booster and the spaceship have proved capable of reaching orbit and reentering the atmosphere, although their landings need improvement.
WAI is probably top 3 of space updates anywhere. One small suggestion (not trying to be disrespectful) but if Felix gets braces or a smile design, maybe I wouldn’t be distracted from the amazing content and editing.
The 7 of 9 reference, dude! Perfect haha
It's fascinating to see the progression and innovation that SpaceX is pushing beyond our imaginations. Their rigorous testing strategy is undeniably impressive.
Another w video Felix!
Still think they should 'master' the booster landing by strapping a few barges together out in the gulf, and then hitting the dead centre a few times to ensure the tower doesn't go 'bye bye' before it should. And, as Falcon doesn't 'always' hit the centre every time, well 🙄😎🖖
If it's hovering between the arms they'll be able to slap it into the center. It'll take some timing and this was practice.
Super heavy doesn’t have landing legs.
Strapping barges together is not easy or cheap. F9 has a different landing profile entirely.
Yes
6:14 These Outlets are Scary xD
Why?
I certainly wouldn't attempt to use them if you still have metal electrical boxes that for sure.
@@wesplybon9510 Can you please explain why?
@@dextermorgan1 6:21 you can see a socket at the feet end of a bathtub. I wasnt really paying attention, but when i saw that i was like "who would do that? you lift your legs out of the water, put your feet against the wall, water runs into the socket and the wet wall (that your foot is on) links to the circuit and BOOM you're toast. I'm somehow impressed that 2 out of 4 people talking about it (ok, i'm nr5) watch rockets going into space but would electrocute themself
@@dextermorgan1 The way it gets power is by using metal clips to attach itself to the screws the wires loop around. It's already not an uncommon problem for things to come lose (either wires or the box itself) and cause shorts when the wires touch the metal boxes. Increasing the width of the conductive surface by adding those clips on the side just seems like you're making it easier to have a short. Plastic electrical boxes would not have this problem.
Thanks so much for creating and sharing this informative video. Great job. Keep it up.
Most likely a added height
There's no ablative layer under the tiles on the nose because they are glued on.
No need tiles. Just blow high pressure air to form a xushion of air
seven scene! spot on.
I wish SpaceX would make an alternative proposal. Rather than deorbit, modify a Starship to be a space tug, refuel it as necessary, and boost the ISS to a garage orbit outside of GEO. And perhaps put a few Optimus onboard for maintenance or continued scientific work. That would be so much better than burning it up, even if it was only for preserving history.
Are those bolted-on steel stubbs on top of each of the legs on new tower to be removed, or do the tower segments get bolted to the stubbs?
I would guess those are for lifting it and would be removed.
7 of 9? Is SpaceX using Borg technology? That would explain a lot.
100% support Snap Power. I got some near 10yrs ago so my, at the time, infant/toddler kids had nightlights and they're still going strong. Now they're just an everyday thing for us and its nice not having to flip on lights in the middle of the night, I need to get more to finish out my house.
Yep! I got some for testing purposes and after installing them I could confidentally say that these are actually good!
I’ve got a house outside the US with electricity rates 3x the US. Should I hesitate then in buying and installing some of these? - Dave
@@dphuntsmanif they’re compatible with your outlets then yes. The LEDs will draw very little current and don’t take up an outlet like a regular nightlight.
Maybe the pedestals are for a section to be built to make the original tower higher?
OMG, imagine the live reentry feed from ISS!
Just bought the Snap Light 5 pack, what a great idea !
The Chang-E 6 mission really resembles an automated Apollo 11
Nice Star Trek reference ;)
Eagerly waiting for new spectacular footage....
One of my favorite parts of each episode are where you put an example comment down in the banner. Always cracks me up, Captain.
Signs of life on an asteroid? could it be a piece of Tiamat? Hmmm, maybe we should take another look at the Enuma Elish.
Personal opinion, I found the background music distracting. Thank you, WAI, for the great work. Figured you'd want that feedback, delivered with love and gratitude
Great episode Felix!
Love the new partnership, those plug fixtures are pretty cool!
sehr gutes video und viele grüße aus deutschland
*Lego, not Legos.
I think the plan is to start using tower 2 as soon as it's ready, and upgrade tower 1 including adding some more segments to make it taller.
Myth Busters says: Plausible.
That 7 of 9 insert 😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂
I worry about the bouncing . Would some damper counter shocks help ?
Tower Two is going to have some Growing pains.
How so?
@@stratolestele7611 Untested infrastructure.
"Intresting" is not a word.
Have a wonderful night ❤❤
13:00 reminds me "Interstellar" spinning space station scene
I was thinking about how you said ship 32 might get scrapped, but they are testing it's mate booster 14. What if they successfully capture booster 12 on flight 5 (next one), and Elon feels bold enough to try to capture the starship 31 on flight 6, after catching booster 13 or ditching it in the ocean (because of it's lucky number). Then if they capture starship 31, they relaunch it on top of booster 14 to show re-usability. I know it sounds insane but so is Space X, which is why they are so cool...
With the ablative coating and dumped HS ring, reuse isn't in the cards anytime soon. Until those steps away from reuse are reversed, it's essentially disposable. They may try to refly the first caught booster after extensive rework, though. Then we'll see where it's at.
The Seven of Nine clip was great...lol
Moar tower segments!
Felix Shlang is the Man!
Gonna need to buy a steel umbrella given the history of space stations getting dropped on Australia.
Thanks😂😊❤
Im glad you came back to the Kennedy vistor center again it was good to see a 2nd time
7:53 "Gary, pull my finger!"
I agree with another comment I just saw, I ferishly watch every episode but my brain can hardly keep up with WAIs video pace, so im constantly having to rewind. Otherwise absolutely great content!
Either Bennu is the most unusual asteroid in the solar system or water was present on light bodies making the asteroids comet-like in the early solar system. If those clays on Bennu came from an earthlike planet, how much of the planet would have water-modified minerals? Just the super-thin crust, right? The other 99% would have no clays, so this is either an unusual asteroid made from the crust of a planet, or we need a different explanation of where the water came from.
I saw that Star Trek reference lol, big fan of that
I think a good catch will incorporate magnetic contact parts to grab the booster
Scrapped, Captain!
@Whataboutit I'm wondering if the next launch could be dependent on Tower2 stacking. If I'm leasing the crane to SpaceX I would not want it that close to T1 at launch.
7 of 9 - very funny
7 of 9 was the borg on the USS Voyager
Best bloopers yet... :)
7 of 9 : )
Hi Captain 🙃
Felix may or may not be a super villain
Y'know, with a little ambition, NASA etc could order a TransHab style module, inflate it, slice one end off, and slide the whole ISS inside to protect it, reattach the cap, then park it somewhere safe, like Geostationary Orbit.
Heck, an object that size, covered in Starship tiles, would slow down pretty fast, bring the ISS back to Earth like a Ship in a bottle.
Looks like booster wld need have more catch pins 🤔
Now I am curious, captain.
Don't put outlets in the bathtub. Please!
Excellent advice!
why are they using rigid beams and not a set of rollers to prevent marring the side of the booster? if the had horizontal springs or hydraulics they could touch the side of the booster without worrying about screeching metal against it and keep the guide rails in line with the catch points.
It did, Captain.
