    This is seriously some of the playing I have loved this channel for. I love the dragged under riffs but I was so tired of hearing them in demos lol

    Some of the best demo riffs I've heard from you in the last several years brother. A lot clarity in these SD pickups. Might slam them in my SE Paul's guitar.

    What's great to me is how clear some of those big chords, with lots of notes, sounded with some crunch. A lot of pickups, if you play more than 3 notes, the whole chord turns to mud.

    I love that you still tried to write something a little closer to what Periphery does here even though it’s not your usual style at all. Great video!

    To be honest when I got my 2023 SE Holcomb,I had every intention of replacing these pickups. They didn't sound bad in Drop C but when I started tuning lower to B and even A#,its like they just opened up and showed that they can really shine in lower tunings. That's what really surprised me about them. Crazy to think I was originally going to put a set BKPs in here but was surprised by the pickups,great on you Mr.Holcomb and Seymour Duncan.

      I have these in the PRS SE Holcomb 7 and a pair of Polymaths in an Aristides 070sr, and honestly I would say the pickups themselves are on about equal levels to me.

    I have them in my Holcomb, overall very impressed. You're bang on about the clarity and the slightly lower output allows them to sit very nicely in front of an OD.

    "The Alpha and Omega set was thick. It was chunky." Dude, I've owned three sets of those pickups. They absolutely were not. 😂 They were tight, extremely bright, and a little thin.

    One of the pickup sets of all time. Gear TH-camrs need to get into the habit of comparing things to other things to prove what they're saying instead of just being an advertisement. How do I know that any of the qualities you attribute to the pickups are true? Without any point of comparison, there's no way to know. You could run a different guitar with different pickups through the same chain and it could sound exactly the same, but you seem to hear specific qualities from this particular set. Would you be so kind as to show us how they compare to other pickups before viewers give their hard-earned money to Seymour Duncan?

    • @bison962
      @bison962 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      After sifting through like 30 pickups I settled on the one I have not much clue about. It arrived ahead of time, unlabelled, beat up, with wrong resistance readings. Got an immediate refund for it. Wanted to throw it away a few years back but recently gave it a second chance. It sounds like nothing else I have and does all I want it to do. Like a good bad girl. I consider myself knowledgeable when it comes to pickups but technically I do not fully understand why it sounds and plays the way it does. So, it is all about your own gear, sound in your head and preferences. The comparison videos are of a very limited use, I found. As well as confusing resistance with output which is just so efing wrong. Fortunately, it does not cost arm and leg to try another set and sell it if anything

    • @MichaelSheaAudio
      @MichaelSheaAudio หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@bison962 I feel as though comparisons are vital to protect the consumer. We didn't hear the pickups or the guitar in this video, we heard his signal chain. So much goes into shaping the sound we hear, so we can never know what exactly the pickups are doing unless we also hear another pickup through that same chain. I don't believe that pickups make any notable difference to tone, so buying and testing pickups does kinda cost an arm and a leg. $200 for a set of Duncans is a lot of money for the average person, and you'll be losing money on every set.
      When someone like Fluff makes claims that a pickup sounds a certain way when there's not really any evidence to support those claims and he doesn't make any effort to prove it, he's actually misleading consumers. He's also a Duncan artist now, so he has an interest in speaking highly of their pickups and making sure that they keep moving units.
      I made a video that I believe proves exactly why we need to use comparisons in gear demos to make sure consumers make informed purchase decisions.

    • @bison962
      @bison962 หลายเดือนก่อน

      after watching this video I did not get the impression that Fluff is trying to sell sth. As a matter of fact, who would be the target audience? There is a good comparison of sd lineup video of more than ten pickups including omega. I did not like the tone of it there. I think I hear some of it in this set as well, so not me) it is a niche thing for the guys who are into this stuff and use the previous iteration. They will likely dig a hole in youtube to figure out what’s up. So, what should he compare it to, to make this interesting for me? Idk. Important aspect for me is playability. Sound comparisons give zero clue as to how much f’ry I will have to go through for the pickup to sound and play the way I want it. Maybe this particular set is amazing but I will never know this. Oh well then. I mean I like the tone of fishman dt and km sets, or bkp ragnarok. The sound samples on youtube and in promo videos are pretty accurate. Playability-wise, meh, for me. For various reasons. Generally, the guys of the periphery caliber will not put out some shite, of that I am sure. So, the consumer should educate itself and know what he wants from the new pickup compared to what he has at the moment. If it is more “defined” it means it has less “juice” and distortion is not that tasty. Is it a good thing? What if today I want juice, more low end, more output. And don’t care about the open chords or those minor thirds in my black metal riffage. So, again, preferences. With these artist series I found helpful to look into what exact guitar, the woods, tuning, string tension, etc. the artist puts the pickup in. What gear is used. Got some really good distortion tones out of ragnarok for instance this way. Which I wanted to get rid of a few times. Very important thing about the pickups which gets overlooked is the amount of noise during the stops, take sd blackouts 2 for instance, crazy. That’s what I would add to every video

    FLUFF!!!! I need a hands on comparison between the new Seymour Duncan Alt Metal Blackouts, and the Duality Active humbuckers. They'd be going into a cheap Jackson JS32RT Dinky string through body (Indian Cedro body, Maple neck with indian Rosewood fretboard). Twas my first Jackson back in high-school and i want to return it back to working order.
