      Definitely helpful. But I have a question about the calories...maybe a dumb question but I'll ask anyway...Are plant based calories different from eating a regular diet of 1928 calories?

      yes. PLANT calories take more energy to digest. If you look into dietary thermogenisis we burn around 30% more calories digesting WHOLE plant foods than we do digesting animal products or refined foods like oil, flour, sugar :)

    I appreciate you are breaking down the protein for the newbies because it does get old having people ask how can you get enough protein on a vegan diet.

    • @HighCarbHannah
      @HighCarbHannah  7 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      exactly my next video has like 80g of protein and its just whole plant foods lol i saw the totals and was like whatttt? no protein powders needed haha!

    • @imjustakid724
      @imjustakid724 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      High Carb Hannah oh! Glad to hear this. When I saw 50ish g of protein, I was like "hrm, I don't know if that's sustainable if I want to work out more," (because I've heard our bodies don't absorb as much protein from plant sources), but I think as long as we get more some days, then it all evens out. It was surprising even for me though that you hit 50g without any beans lol. It just goes to show that, as long as you're eating a healthy variety of plant-based foods, you can hit your nutrient goals without trying too hard lol.

      I just say, well did you know that Broccoli and spinach have more protein then any meat , egg, or milk product u could eat lol personally love seeing their faces..... but " I hate the why would u want to do that?" when u say I am vegan/wholeplantbasedlifestyle ....

  • @Nunekhiia

    1928 Kcal per day is way too much for me :( I want to eat those but if I do I will gain weight instead. Apparently to keep my weight which is 61 kilos I need to eat 1500 kcal but I'm 10 kilos overweight. I need to lose some fat. So I need to eat even less than 1500 kcal a day
    Soooo this looks all yummy and amazing but sucks I can't eat it. You should make a new series for small people who don't exercise since the calories are way less compared to a tall person.

    • @thepochade5992
      @thepochade5992 7 ปีที่แล้ว +112

      Us smaller eaters can simply reduce the amounts we eat ie one sushi style roll at lunch instead of two, no snack, 1/2 cup of oats instead of 1/3 cup etc 😉

    • @lauriieee
      @lauriieee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      I would not do that! You should eat enough calories of carbs and fruits to give you energy and make a healthy lifestyle sustainable. Don't reduce the carbs, reduce the fat. :)

    • @Nunekhiia
      @Nunekhiia 7 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Yeah, that's what I'm doing, but reducing the size sometimes leaves me hungry still, so it would be cool to see recipes that are low calories and filling for petite women. Like if I have to for reals take into account the calories and eat whatever I want I'd end up eating like a bird and suffering from an empty stomach lol.

    Ugh these look so good. I wish I could eat 2000 calories and lose weight though! My daily normal is around 1200-1400 depending on how much I'm exercising. I'm definitely making a smaller portion of those oats though! Thanks for this video

    • @mosaic2476
      @mosaic2476 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      1000-1400 is the amount needed to nourish a toddler/pre-schooler. Unless you're their size, you need to eat much more than that!

    • @melissaservais650
      @melissaservais650 7 ปีที่แล้ว +76

      Maddy that's not necessarily true. My BMR is 1323 calories per day. I'm 5'6", 145 lbs, sedentary office job and weight train a few times per week. Everyone's caloric needs vary based on how big/small they are and their activity level. 2000 calories per day is way too much for me unless I'm being much more active than usual. This calculator is helpful for anyone interested in knowing their BMR or TDEE: tdeecalculator.net/

    • @PerfectlyReads
      @PerfectlyReads 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Melissa Servais bmr are the calories you need if you stay in bed all day, and I doubt that you do that.

    • @mosaic2476
      @mosaic2476 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Melissa Servais I had a look at yours on that website and got about 1900, which isn't that far off 2000. You say you weight train a few times a week, which means you're light to moderately active. Even though your job is sedentary, you still exercise.

    • @melissaservais650
      @melissaservais650 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      PerfectlyReads Yep I understand that which is why I also referenced TDEE and linked the calculator. My point was I don't know what the OP's stats are but 1200-1400 might not be too far off from what her body needs; everyone is different. I myself typically eat around 1600 per day, more if I'm lifting that day or doing something really active outside of my normal boring office-drone life. Like Friday I did 5 hours of yard work and probably ate around 2200. But, I did stay in bed all day yesterday binge-watching Ozark on Netflix (and nursing a sinus infection). 😆

      Adding spices changed everything for me. I'm currently into pumpkin pie spices, and/or banana, and/or cocoa powder. All three is delicious. Almond butter also makes it heartier. Also, using old fashioned oats, very lightly cooked (instead of quick oats) makes a huge difference. Adding nuts or a sprinkle of granola for texture is good too.

      there's tons of people who lose weight like this without any exercise. All the people who follow Dr. McDougall. But I'm guessing those people came from eating the standard american super unhealthy diet. I came from a vegetarian diet but I was obese with all the cheese and dairy I ate. I lost 107 lbs following Dr. McDougall and eating like the videos Hannah posts. I average 2200-2300 calories and have PCOS. I bet I'd lose faster if I didn't have the pcos. I see tons of people on the McDougall facebook group losing so much weight and no exercise at all so it's possible.

      I buy raw nuts and I soak in water overnight that makes easy to digest. I eat carbs but I add more legumes, veggies and greens for more nutrition. When I eat fruits I also add celery stalks (fiber)to help with insulin hormone. And yes, I have to do exercise walk 30-60min everyday it helps too.

      The worst section of a diet plan is purging, starvation. The diet that we're following I would not go hungry as well as the results appear quickly. I lost 22 pounds and i also continue to lose weight naturally. Meals are on this site here *TOP2DIET . COM*

    This video right here has changed my life. That might skins extreme, but it's true. I lost 65 pounds 4 1/2 years ago, but since then have gained back 100 pounds. I'm the highest and most miserable I've ever been.
    I was browsing TH-cam for recipes and stumbled on this video. I was hooked. I then binge-watched your other videos and decided in that time that I am going to completely change my lifestyle. I've been 100% strong and motivated to this. I haven't been doing it long, but I don't feel deprived, I already disliked most dairy, eggs, and meat, and I feel SO good.
    So, thank you for making these videos.

    With 1900 Calories it's unrealistic for most people to lose weight.
    My TDEE is around 1800 if I am sederntary. If I don't work out I would even gain weight on your suggested meals :/

    • @88Mlaura
      @88Mlaura 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same, I'm am pretty short, so my TDEE is less than 1800.
      But I find that eating at a bit less than my maintenance calories and trying to exercise regularly helpful. We could still eat her suggested meal plan, just slightly smaller portions ;) (and add in more greens)

    • @HighCarbHannah
      @HighCarbHannah  7 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      Like i said in the video, you may need to eat less if you are inactive, i would suggest just cutting back on the meals a TINY bit - use 1/2 c oats instead of 3/4 - have 3 potatoes instead of 4, skip the snacks and just have a piece of fruit if you are hungry. Just this adjustment alone would save you about 400 calories so you would be around 1400-1500 a day. I also HIGHLY suggest getting in a 30 minute walk everyday. 95% of the population that needs to lose weight, will EASILY lose weight on this amount of food. The thermic effect of plant foods is also about 30% compared to animal products and refined foods like oil, sugar, flour so you burn a lot more calories just digesting the food. Anyways, good luck on your journey.

    1928 calories is a lot for a person who wants to lose weight. My nutritionist gave me a plan of 1300 calories combining it with exercise. Maybe it was because of the calories I was burning throughout the day and at that time I didn't workout. Anyway, thanks for these meals, I would definitely try the sushi rolls for lunch 😍😍 loved it

    • @user-zz4hx8nr7b
      @user-zz4hx8nr7b 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It is quite easy. You just gotta get all the nutrition you need. Tbh low calorie diets help you lose weight but isnt very good for you as your body will go into starvation mode, and when in starvation mode, your body will slow the metabolism as it is not sure when the next meal will be.

      I eat 2200-2300 calories, following the same type of diet Hannah promotes and lost 107 lbs. I do exercise too but tons of people lose weight like this even without exercise. Our bodies like starch. It's just when they're combined with fat and oil that our body stores them as excess weight. Keep it low fat and the weight should come off.

    I'm 47, 5'4, work a desk job and am trying to exercise after work (it's been a challenge trying to create this habit) and need to lose 50 lbs. Cronometer says I need to eat 1200 cal/day to lose 1 lb/week. I can eat a little more if I exercise. How can women eat close to 1900 calories/day and lose weight? I'm so confused! I would be so stoked if I could eat that much!

    • @amandadelatorre8371
      @amandadelatorre8371 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Kimberly Jones tons of people lose weight on a whole food plant based diet (like what Hannah is showing here.) Cutting your calories way way down is of course going to give you weight loss quickly, but you'll most likely gain all the weight back. Long term and sustained weight loss is about cutting a small amount of calories and making sure to get the proper amount of macros (more carbs, less fat) from healthy plant based sources. Just search "whole food plant based weight loss" into Google or TH-cam and you'll be overjoyed with what you find!!

      Don't trust chronometers recommendations. 1200 calories a day will mess with your metabolism and isn't maintainable on the long run. Calculate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) and simply eat in a mild (very mild!) deficit.

I’ve found myself definitely high in the carbs (potatoes pastas rice rice cakes toasts) I do my best to balance with fats but I feel like that’s high too (avocados nut butter) and I’m still gaining. It’s hard for me still to digest high fiber and a lot of non fodmap foods are still hard to digest (broccoli peppers onions etc) and I still have major CFS and other painful chronic health issues so a lot of prep and assembling is still tough. So I’m lost in what to grab easily but help get my weight down. (About 90 to lose). Any help and ideas are so welcome and a blessing. Thanks HCH your material is such a gift.

      I have to really limit my carbs like pasta, potatoes, oats and fatty foods like avocados and nuts. I might have them 2 or 3 times a week each, or if I have avocado (because it is very good for you), I have to factor in the calories. Some people can get away with not counting calories while they are on a plant-based diet, I can't. I was 73 kilos at 160cms (26 years old) and a vegetarian, that did take about 15 kilos off me over a few years, but I plateaued until I was vegan for a couple of months and really starting watching my refined carbs, complex carbs in excess, and fats and sugars. Fruit makes me gain weight if I have more than 2 serves, I forgot to mention that. I only have brown rice with my veggies, no white and that has made a difference in the shortest time (3 kilos in 1.5 months). I cook alsost all my own meals now so I know what goes into them. I'm 64 kilos at age 27 now, and the weight is only coming off slowly, but I do have an underactive thyroid and a pain condition that means I can't exercise much.

      Young Winnie You should try strength training if you aren't or add more intensity to your workouts. Maybe try exercising six days a week. Also, if you are serious about losing weight then try what I did to lose 20 pounds. It's the two protein shakes a day and one meal of whatever you want to eat. get a vegan protein powder, put fruits or greens or both in a smoothie and do that twice a day. Just choose whichever part of the day you want to eat food, personally I like to eat dinner, but you can eat breakfast or lunch. Just as long as you have 2 protein smoothies for the day. You can also eat healthy snacks in between and drink green tea to aide you to lose weight. Trust me it's not easy, but it's worth it, that's if you are serious in losing that extra ten pounds and to help you even more is to exercise six days a week using taebo's celebrity sculpt by Billy Blanks on top of the two shakes a day. It will help you tone and lose any extra fat you don't want. And also keep eating like you are for that one meal in your day. Man, that was alot, but hopefully, it helps. Plus everyone is different, but if you don't try it you'll never know. Do it for at least 2 weeks to see any real benefit, even on your off day (no exercising) you should do this. Alright that's enough for now.

I used to eat this much, but in order to lose weight I was running 45mins to 1 hr 4-5 days a week...aaannnddd busted my hip doing so. • @HighCarbHannah
      @HighCarbHannah  7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      your body will adapt to whatever you give it :) I would slowly up your calories by 100 every week until you get to the point where you dont gain. Some people who are more active can maintain on like 2800. My fitbit says I burn 2000-2200 a day but i maintain pretty effortlessly eating this much granted some days i do eat less because im busy but i just eat as much as i want. Its probably best for you mentally if you just eat until you are satisfied and not count calories. Its VERY hard to gain weight eating intuitively on a WFPB diet :)

      It really does depend, somewhat of average height with a moderately active lifestlye, will have a total daily energy expenditure of more than 2150+ calories. If you then eat at a slight deficit, like 1900 kcal you would slowly but steadily lose weight. SO it really does depend on what your maintenance calories / TDEE are.
      Please don't restrict yourself to 1000-1200 kcal, that is too little and barely maintainable.

    Hey Hannah! New vegan family here. I made my very first TH-cam video cooking your oatmeal recipe here! Thank you for the inspiration! It's been a joy learning from you & the rest of the vegan TH-cam family!
