This brings back memories! Used to fish here often with my dad when I was a teenager :) I really enjoyed the action scenes and it was great to see them come up to the surface to take
I love fishing Menteith, got a few on the midas last year when I was back home for a fishing holiday, got to test out some cormorants that I tied for the occasion too. Good vid!! Keep em coming ATB Chris
Yeah it’s my favourite place to go for sure, and cormorants do very well there! It’s funny you mention the Midas, never fished it until yesterday, and it’s now got a 100% record!! Thanks mate, and I’m actually going to Menteith again on Saturday so might make another vid.
@@TheTroutFlyFisherman I'm from aberdeenshire&I know a few if tge scottish team guy's who fish menteith.hopefully i'll get down with 1 of them once covid is over
Kinda a newbie to the dry fly, When there’s a ripple on the water sometimes it can be difficult to see the dry and spot takes , would you just go by watching the end of the line or looking roughly where the fly is and striking when u see the rise ? Cheers
Hi Kyle, yeah this is pretty common when using smaller dries. You can gauge roughly where your fly / flies are based on the direction the end of your fly line is sitting, and if you see a rise anywhere close to where you think your fly is just strike. If you fish 2 dries you can go big with the point fly to help you sight them too. I do like to be able to see my dries but as you say not always easy on choppy water. Key thing is strike if you are not sure, as it takes 2 seconds to cast back out.
Shannon York - it was a mixture, we were using a drogue at points where we found fish and there was enough breeze to warrant deploying it, but just slow drifting otherwise when the breeze dropped 👍🏻
Yeah it can be tough Tommy no doubt, but the scenery and wildlife make it a good day no matter what. Unless it windy and raining, now that’s a slog up there!!
You are casting too long according to tradition and much advice. No more than 2 rod lengths is what some of the old boys on the tweed say. Still the lake seems quite calm in your vids, A bit of a ruffle would surely be a good thing?
Nice👍 nothing better than catching trout on the dry fly, good job👌

Nice one. It’s a stunning place eh, and somewhere I love just watching the wildlife as much as the fishing! Thanks mate.

Thank you for sharing them amazing content :)
Thanks mate, really appreciate that 👍🏻 still trying to get used to filming / editing, but enjoying it which is the main thing!
Watching this video for the 3rd time because I’m missing the dries and the lake 🎣
Cannot wait to get back up there mate!! 🎣
I would love to fish here some day.look's stunning
You definitely should Paul, in my opinion it’s the best there is in many ways 👍🏻🎣

@@paulkeir748 - nice one Paul, you will love it. I find just being there and watching the ospreys a pleasure, never mind the fishing! 👍🏻🎣
Enjoyed that mate
Thanks Lee! I love fishing there, so there will be many more to come! No doubt fishing deep on the next one though!
nice topwater rises mate!
Yeah, was great action once the weather settled. Won’t be long until I need a di8 to get to them up there though I’m sure!
Do you tie your dries new Zealand style mate?
If I’m fishing multiple dries, I fish on a dropper. I find the fish can take the fly better 👍🏻🎣

The Trout Fly Fisherman Cheers man, tight lines 🎣
What size is your outboard on your Jon boat?
Were you using a Drogue for any of this? Or was there not enough breeze most of the time for a Drogue to set?

@@TheTroutFlyFisherman Right. Thank you.
I always check my fly if I've dropped.a.fish that quick
Yeah definitely agree. Fly was fine though!
Lovely place Menteith ... although I usually found it hard going when fishing it.

Short line for drys on a boat not 30yrd casts let fish come to you patience is the game
Agree, I just can’t resist sometimes though! 😂👍🏻

Yeah I’ve toned it down a lot since then, it’s a learning curve! 👍🏻
