- My, very original, 1936 Morgan 4/4 Series 1, Flat Radiator model attempts the Forrestburn and the Doune Hillclimbs.
This Morgan is powered by an 1122cc Coventry Climax "Inlet-over-Exhaust" engine. It is fitted wit a single Solex sidedraft carburettor and the engine produces about 34 BHP.
The car has a Meadows gearbox with synchromesh on 3rd and 4th gears only. It has a 'Continental' gearshift pattern (1st and 2nd are on the right, 3rd and 4th are on the left).
This Morgan has cable operated drum brakes and a 'fly-off' handbrake.
The Series 1 Morgan 4/4 runs on 5.00-5.25 x 16" crossply tyres and has two spare wheels mounted on the rear of the 2 seater sports body.
The body is skinned with aluminium on an ash wood frame, it has an aluminium louvred bonnet and steel wings.
When the car left the factory, it did not have indicators but these have been retro fitted along with dipping headlights (originally the headlight had single filaments and had a centrally mounted 'pass' light rather than high/low beams).
The electrical charging system has been upgraded to a 'Dynamater' - an alternator in a dynamo housing.
Interesting following a "modern" Climax up the hill, quite similar exhaust notes. Bonny looking machine, lucky you, thanks.
The 1020cc Imp was a wee bit quicker - but almost as smokey!
Looks like a lot of fun Doug even though it takes a little maintenance now and then. I would really enjoy having one of those. Cheers my friend.
500mile chassis greasing, 2500mile oil changes, sump off and clean every 5000miles (no oil filter).
Beautiful car in the correct colour 😉
It is isn't it!
Very good 😊
Thanks
That course looks like great fun. Just bought a 1938 4/4 and hope to do some speed events. Did you take both spare wheels up the hill in case of punctures?
No, I just like the look of the car with the wheels in place. The Morgan is always going to be slow despite the extra weight.
Flat rads rule. The waterfall grill Mogs are too aerodynamic and modern...
Glad you liked it!
Xlnt!
Super filming which camera are you using I have similar carb problem on my flat rad standard special
I'm using a GoPro Hero 8 camera. It has excellent stabilisation - considering how much the windscreen was vibrating. The rear view mirror is usually just a blur due to the vibrations. I'm in the process of making an adaptor to try an 1-1/4" SU carb.
