    This was a great watch! I can't believe it only has 500 views. In my opinion this is just as high quality as some other game retrospective channels that get hundreds of thousands of views. Keep it up!

    Wow Im so happy I found this. Me and my dad used to play this game together and it has a place in my heart. Ive tried to play it again and even bought the special edition but have never had the time to play. I hope there is a sequel and thanks for making a great unbiased video.
    PS that scene on the stage is awesome

    I finished my first playthrough of Alan Wake remastered yesterday and I enjoyed it. Mostly for the story and mystery though, as some areas of gameplay were a bit frustrating and soured some of the experience. Since it was only towards some gameplay sections though, I still had a good time with it. Pretty excited to see Alan Wake II going into full survival horror as well, since it's one of my favorite genres.
    Also, this video was super well made and deserves a ton more views. Definitely gonna check out more of your channel.

    This game was a bonus game that came with my Xbox 360 when I got it all those years ago. I had no idea what this game was about or what it was. Let's just say I was instantly hooked and am now a big fan of this masterpiece. As a person who was born and raised in WA state as well as an avid horror lover, this game is one big love letter. I love catching all the references!

    It's funny how Alan Wake so often gets compared to a TV show, because I remember when it came out, that's kinda what it felt like to me. People I knew in college talking about it, and like most TV shows people recommend to me I found myself struggling to get into it properly.
    But I do still hope the franchise continues, because as you've very obviously demonstrated here, it's an interesting world that already has a lot of very interesting stories to tell. I'm really glad you covered everything related to the series on top of the base game. Fantastic job as always, dude!

      Makes sense; it definitely isn't for everyone, and it does take a while to really hook you. And yeah, the world of Alan Wake has so much potential that's ripe for exploration in future stories.

    Your channel is quickly becoming a new favorite, just discovered it a few days ago. I normally don’t have the attention span to watch such long videos but here I am. I really enjoyed my time playing Alan Wake some years back. Not sure I’d have the patience to play through it again but I’d be interested in a sequel.
    Also, in your Heavy Rain video you mentioned being from Massachusetts, I live in New Hampshire, so we’re practically neighbors!

    I just realised that this video has less than 200 likes, I am not sure how that is possible because the amount of effort that you put in for such a high quality video should have been more recognised. Please don’t give up on making content because you really have something very unique and great here even if it is under appreciated. Thank you for making this video and publishing it.

    People often say Alan Wake is mostly influenced by Stephen King but it’s actually Twin Peaks, Bright Falls being almost the exact same setting.The Dark Place = The Black Lodge, Mr Scratch = Coopers Doppelganger, Mirror Peak = Twin Peaks, Lamp lady = Log lady and a lot more

    Really cool to see such a good retrospective on one of my favorite games. I played this game so much, but unlike most other games I've played, I was "alone" with this one. Not much on TH-cam, Twitch or any other arena.. I just enjoyed the game and that was that. Never forgot about it though, even though I never found it scary (unlike, for example, the Amnesia series).

    I played this on 360 when it was new and I liked it. I lent it to my friend because he likes Stephen King. He later sold his 360 and games, along with my Alan Wake, mistaking it for one of his. I still have not re-purchased it, and for a long time could not! I feel I need to buy it on Steam while it's once again available.

      Using my own words against me, eh?!? For real though, I really am glad that I revisited Alan Wake for this retrospective. It was always on my list of video topics but I've gained a new appreciation for it since playing it again. I have no doubts that Alan Wake 2 will happen at some point so fingers crossed that it's soon!

    I'm a HUGE fan of Alan Wake and pretty much everything else Remedy is responsible for creating. I also agree with maybe everything you had to say in relation to pointing out the strengths and flaws of the game. Another criticism I'd add is one that I believe comes from the fact that they had intended the game to be open-world and developed around this philosophy into the late stages of development. It really shows for anyone who plays games as a completionist of sorts, and going into Alan Wake with that intention will either drive you mad or break you of that mindset altogether as it did me! They created Bright Falls and then carved out individual levels, and this really shows when you break off from the beaten path where you can wander endlessly while finding nothing. Then you realize the collectables were haphazardly thrown in and barely related to the story, at best. One cool one I guess was later in the game when you're driving and able to switch vehicles parked around the area, but if you exit the first car you start in and walk into some woods just off the road to the right there's a coffee thermos on a recliner chair overlooking some nice scenery in the mountains. That one had some thought put into it, but most of the time you just sorta find them propped wherever and I'm the type who has an autistic need to max collectable numbers out ugggghhh.
    Great vid! I'm burning through your content presently, it's fantastic!

    found this thru reddit. i enjoyed the video ^^ it's comprehensive, and the best part about your style is that it feels honest to your feelings about the game. hey, question: while researching for this video did you find anything about the announced Alan Wake tv series?

    • @CloudConnection
      @CloudConnection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks dude! Unfortunately I didn't find any info about the Alan Wake show other than its announcement. TV series can take some time to manifest though, and especially with everything going on this year I imagine work on it was halted for a bit. So who knows? Maybe Remedy wants to hold off on it until it comes time to release Alan Wake 2, because my feeling is there'll be some cross-referencing between the game and the show.

    I love this game and think its HIGHLY underrated, but to call it a masterpiece? Nahhh. I can admit the gameplay loop isn't the most interesting, and that probably turns a lot of "hardcore gamers" off from playing it, although I personally don't think every game needs a super difficult/complex gameplay loop. It's one of the reasons I love this game so much. It isn't complex or require a ton of strategizing. It's easy to just pick up and play and have fun even after a long time of not playing it. I don't have to re-familiarize myself with a ton of complicated systems. It's just got the basic weapons and gameplay and that's it. As someone who doesn't consider themselves the best gamer, that's actually a plus, not a negative.
    Also, as far as I'm aware, the open world aspect was so far into development that the areas of the game are still actually made from those open world sections, just cut up into its own areas.
    (Also I have to say, as someone who adores time travel media, I really like the wibbly wobbly timey wimeyness of this game. Like how the writing affects reality, it doesn't just affect the present and future, but also affects the past as well.)
    EDIT: I'm surprised you never brought up how the Taken in the first game basically parrot what they said in life but all distorted. It was such a nice touch and I was sad it wasn't a thing in American Nightmare. Which, btw, funny story, with that game, I played the arcade mode at the same time as the main story and when I went back to the main story... it felt WAY too easy! The arcade mode is super fun, though the nightmare versions of the levels are really really rough. Like, I beat some but didn't have any supplies left at the very end and was kinda running waiting for the sun to come up lol

    Why is it that you got 1k subs but rarely crack above 500 on your most recent vids?

    • @CloudConnection
      @CloudConnection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly it's not that unexpected. The nature of my content means I tackle subjects individually, so not every video is going to appeal to each of my subscribers. I'm also not a creator that relies on showcasing my personality, but rather expressing my thoughts, so most probably aren't subscribing because they're interested in me - they're interested in what I have to say about the subjects that they're engaged in. Maybe some people don't want to watch a 50-minute video on Alan Wake but they'd be happy to watch a 20-minute video on Super Meat Boy. I have some ideas to adjust this strategy in 2021 but that's for the future.
      I think a better metric to look at personally is views over time. Obviously subscribing and watching shows support, but it's not the best way for me to judge the success of the channel. I take a "set the trap and wait for the prey" approach to these videos in terms of promotion and SEO optimization and all that. I'm not just trying to appeal to a core audience, I also want to attract in people who haven't heard of me but who want to see content on video games they like. My videos typically end up doing well eventually, and since my content is designed to be evergreen, that's an indication of success. It'd be more worrying if I made videos designed to catch all my subscribers immediately and I only got a fraction of the views.
      Apologies if you didn't expect a two-paragraph response :) I do appreciate the sentiment by the way, but believe me, there's no need to worried about the discrepancy between sub count and view count.

      Quick note to add on here: my views-to-date statistics show that this Alan Wake video is performing very well compared to other videos when they were a day-and-a-half old, so there's that!
