I live in berlin, Germany. BUT my mothers a native american from canada.! i use to get teased for being a halfbreed in germany schools. But when i listend to buffy's music it made me happy and proud! GERMANY LOVES YOU BUFFY
Don't hate. I left my home; the reserve over 20 years ago, and this song just gets me Every single time i Listen to it. I Know I will Return to Home to my people & My Reserve one day. I'm also doing my best to Remind my youngest son of his 1st Nations Heritage as well! #beproud
My aunt showed me these songs she is has long passed but I still feel her in these songs as a native American I am very proud and glad she did show me these songs and the memories and bind that it holds is greater than I can ask for
I lost my auntie and baby cousins due to a drunk driver I was looking at my cousin sisters playlist and this was one of her favorites soon as I played it me and my mom started crying because of how beautiful it is and how powerful it's a great song I felt like they were telling us not to cry and we'll be together again I love this song so much play it every morning on my way to work while I'm taking to my cousin sister aho
Oh, I'm so sorry. Weve lost some family, including my brother and uncle, and so my heart truly goes out to you to tell you that im here for you and to take it day by day. It takes time, but you will heal, sharing some of the happiest moments and precious memories you had with them. And dont hesitate to share those best moments with as many other people as you feel comfortable sharing, letting them know that they are still people who had truly lived for all those years. We still talk about honoring them over at the dinner table for how smart, funny, and kind they were. That time when uncle Craig would lay on that smirky smiling mustache of his that would twinkle with a clever look in his eyes when he had a winning hand at playing cards. Our brother Frank would play these funny pranks where he would tease my step sister Whitney by planting tomatoes on the chair she would sit in and call her a hickerbilly hemorhoid. I like to think they are still in heaven, letting us know that they happy and doing well. Some may find it not comfortable, talking about honoring the dead, but countless families from different cultures have been honoring their lost relatives and ancestors for generations. That is why our elders in the family are deserving of the upmost respect.
I'm french but i'm in friendly relationship with lot of friends in Lakota, Dineh, Crees, Arapahoes, Attikamekws, Mic Macs, Apaches, I'm proud defender of all natives americans cultures in France and of couse Buffy is a great person Wakan tanka bless all of peoples of Reds Nations Mitakuyé Oyasin
This song hits different at almost 40. I grew up through displacement away from my FN-Michif family, and in 2021 after holding my family knowledge I went home to Saskatchewan. I miss it so much. I just want to be on the Plains. Thank you Buffy for all you've done for us all. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🧡🔥
I'm an old white bloke from Australia and I too love this song. In the 80's I tried to speak to native americans and became very interested in Floyd Red Crow Westerman and had conversations with the Means brothers as well. I have had a life of working with native australians for social justice and this song just resonates for me.
I can't stop playing this song - there is something so uplifting, yet poignant, about it. Thanks for sharing this because it's given me a renewed appreciation for Buffy Sainte Marie.
I give this Lady the Highest tribute, as she sings from her heart. What devotion to her people, a nation to be proud of. I just love this song and Buffy. Thank you to the person who put on this site.
I am not Native American -- but how can anyone in the world not get wrapped up in the blanket of this marvelous song. Buffy Sainte Marie is one of those miracle singers. This is one of those songs that I must listen to often just to come down to earth. I stand with SensaiMan -- to give this lady the highest tribute. May a thousand angels walk you with Buffy.
Thank you for your post. It's a very loving and caring type of energy indeed friend. May we find a shared sacred kinship in Sainte Marie's songs and words. Yes, even on TH-cam lol. As a descendant of the Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo tribes, welcome to this family. From wherever you are posting from, even if not Native by blood, what matters is the spirit. Often it is that we each have a birth family, the one we marry into, and a spirit family within the larger community. The last name Kuhl means one who lives near water. Moving back near the California coast to meet back up with the native kin family there after a vision. Let me tell you a story. As a child, I used to just lay down in a grassy field near the trees, looking up at the sky of daytime clouds or nighttime stars for what felt like hours of daydreaming. Soul travelling was what it really was but didn't know it at the time until well into adulthood. Something well known by our ancestors but forgotten while living in the modern era resurfaced. A lucid dream of their voices told me I was an amateur. Lolz. But to keep going at it. Hearing their voices was quite spooky at first, but there was reassurance in what they were saying. We also got to meet up with and talk to other family members of ours who have recently passed to tell us what life is like on the other side, that they are each doing well and are happy together despite the fact we still want them nearer to us. Time for a much better life filled with actual adventure and much growth and change. Can be overwhelming, but it is necessary to carry on. Darling Don't Cry.
@@christopherkuhl1537 - One of the nicest responses I ever read. Thank you. I will be leaving for Arizona this week -- have several stops to make but one important one is visiting some Native Americans there. Especially the elders. Looking forward to it. Looking forward to the education. I will buy a blanket, a hat, a belt, or anything handmade so long as it's from a person and not a company. I was about 13 when I came across a Native American saying "The smile that you send out returns to you." Never forgot it. You have sent me that smile today Christopher.
@@lastrada52 - Oh you're going to have a blast in Arizona. How long are you going for? Some of the most gorgeous blending of red, orange, and yellow layers of desert sands there make it look like paintings specially crafted by God. Not to mention that the starry skies at night are such a sight to see and I believe there are some lakes you might be able to swim in during the day. Not sure about at night due to wolves or coyotes. I'm so looking forward to what each of our learning experiences are going to be when we meet the elders. Let's stay in touch and we can tell each other how it goes for us. Which tribe were you thinking of visiting? There are so many good ones. Most people I know go visit the Hopi, Navajo Nation, Pueblo of the Zuni, or one of the Apache tribes. You know, should you want to go on some great hiking trails, other than the Grand Canyon of course, the Coconino National Forest is located just outside of Flagstaff and has some remarkable views with a lot of camping sites. The Sedona Creekside up to the rock itself is also a great find too. Both have a great variety of majestic bird, plant, and animal wildlife.
Hello, my name is Patty... my husband, Bob Hunter, is part Mohawk... on his father's side... we are finding out more about his ancestors each day... I may not be Native Canadian but, I am sure proud of my husband and relatives.

@2porangi Well said and very true as things stand now. Having grown up around native people, I have come to appreciate just how decent and friendly they are. The ones I know have a great sense of humour you just have to love. Your comments about the greed of others and the power they wield is also very true. Thanks for your comments.

So much emotion, so much history, so much truth, so much pride, so much pain, so much love, so much defiance squeezed into one song. Thanks Buffy.
