I feel like the excelsior class should have done better. Is that because it is still in its prototype configuration?

The Gorkon was in service in the early/mid 24th Century Excelsior, though it may not have been top of the line against the Kvort (not sure which specific era it was introduced offhand)
In truth, the Excelsior would be an aging design by this point, though this should have gone better.
(Also, KM's bad habit of allowing projectiles to pierce shields haunts me again, lol)
