I am one of many that traveled to Japan (me from DC) just to see this live performance. Their lives are "grand shows". Most around me (many people from abroad and quite a few young ladies with twin tails -> you'll know the significance eventually) we were all in tears when this first song came up. There were three songs where my cheeks were wet throughout = METAL KINGDOM, Divine Attack, Monochrome), and if you go into the Foxhole, you will understand that in the same concert, you will have a huge crowd jumping up and down to their music, and chanting along. Also Mosh'sh Pits popping up everywhere is pretty common. I am a 74 year old, and listening to their "Road of Resistance", I was running around in the pit and twirling a muffler in the air, high-fiving fans around the pit. Can you think of many groups that are capable of making geysers like me do this AND bust my tear-glands wide open? - welcome to the world of BABYMETAL my friend.

One thing about this group is their catalog of songs is extremely varied and diverse. They don't stick to one genre of metal, the band that backs the three girls is made up of insanely talented Japanese session musicians who seemingly can do anything asked of them. They also are best experienced live. To start with I'd suggest:
Road of Resistance live at Saitama Super Arena
    Headbanger live at Budokan
Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014
    Karate live at Download 2016
Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan (this is a Su solo with an incredible intro from the Kami Band)

Babymetal is the Godzilla of Japanese rock/metal, crushing everyone who tries to get in it's way. You're in for a wild ride as you explore their musical catalog as they are one of best metal bands around. There were originally 3 girls Su-Metal, Moa-metal and Yui-metal. Yui left in 2018 due to health issues, their backing musicians are known as the Kami Band. A permanent 3rd member is going to be introduced when they play their next shows on Fox Day April 1st. Live performance videos is the best way to experience this band , you'll get plenty of suggestions from the comment's as to what songs to react to, my own would be live versions of Megitsune, Headbanger Legend of 1997, Catch Me If You Can and Karate just to name a few of their early song's 🦊🤘

    Babymetal starter kit
    1. Megitsune (music video is a must for this one, their best song imo).
    2. Road of Resistance Live (best crowd participation ever)
    3. Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro Budokan live (invite only arena, Ozzy played here once, showcases the Kami band more, HEAVY!!!)
    4. Pa Pa Ya Live (Cardio workout haha)
    5. BxMxC live (drop the mic haha)

To define BABYMETAL is even more complicated now than it had already been before, as they might be on a turning point at the moment, where they are toning down some of the kawaii (cute) elements for the upcoming album. They started at ages 11-12, and Su as the oldest is 25 now, so some degree of change is inevitable.
That being said, there are certainly heavier songs in their catalogue, but there are also softer, more playful songs. One of their distinct features has always been the fusion of various subgenres of Metal with all sorts of different genres, not only J-Pop. In their music you'll find Hip Hop, EDM, Waltz, Ska, Reggae, Dubstep, Latin and Indian vibes and more. As you have seen, their shows are often very theatrical, and almost all of their songs have a full dance choreography. So even the heavier songs may not be quite like the usual Metal you might expect.
One song that I'd like to recommend watching Is Megitsune. It's a pretty playful song, but it's not without really heavy parts, but most of all, I think it captures the BABYMETAL spirit pretty well. th-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/w-d-xo.html

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse🦊🤘🌐
Nice first reaction, you just witness the start of a new BabyMetal era, after 10 years they already sealed Metal Resistance chapters and i think the best introduction to understand this project and concept is to watch some of the early era songs like this:
    - _"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!"_ live at Legend 1997 held in 2013, you can find a clip safe to react at Gans Tomas channel.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, the name is a reference to a birth of a new genre, and is a pun intended play words of heavy-metal which sounds similar to baby-metal in Japanese way of speak English (hebi-metaru / bebi-metaru), you'll find a lot of this pun intended in BM songs. They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
    None of them are related.
After that year you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them sing or have mic, they only dance, but that may change this year since they announced a new official member is coming.
This is why BabyMetal have no match among any other Japanese artists, top notch worldwide. Many others are finding Game Of Thrones resemblance on this stage setup, it looks insane. The ten prophets are holding crosiers with "The Other One" logo which is similar to the infinite symbol "OO" and is the title of upcoming 4th album. The girls are carrying some kind of trident similar to the Spear Of Destiny or Lance Of Longinus from Evangelion series, fans know MoaMetal is skilled with this weapon and she can be dangerous 🔱
Here's some official info about this song:
    METAL KINGDOM (THRONE)
_It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning._
At the end of January at Makuhari Messe they held two great live shows returning to the stage after almost two years. and by far they meet up my expectations with this epic live performance and top notch production.
SuMetal and MoaMetal showing why they're a queen and princess deserving their thrones. The cinematic drone shots are just insane.
We were expecting this live proshot version but we'll have to wait next month for live sound.
We got so many big news and announcements, a new official member is coming (most likely Momoko Okazaki, the one who has been performing with them all these years and latest live concerts) next live shows in April 1 (Fox Day) when returning once again with another headlining shows at PIA ARENA MM Yokohama. Also they performed with a new BM mirror unit coming from another world of this metalverse, so we're guessing maybe some of the older kawaii metal songs they don't play anymore will be back with this new unit, so stay tuned for more but like always OTFGK.
If you want more info about them, i highly suggest you "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery channel but first try to watch "Babymetal Death" to avoid some spoilers.
I'm gonna leave another suggestion in my next comment where to find safe clips to react.
This is the opener of this new live show and first track of upcoming new album, next song is "Divine Attack - Shingeki" official visualizer (that was the first single released in October 2022), after that you have "Monochrome" official lyrics video, another different song, and that's what you're gonna find in BM catalogue and more than 50 songs none are alike to another.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time!🦊🤘👑

This is the opening track to their new album coming out in late March and also the opening to the very recent live show that this was filmed at. It's an anthem track as you can see, and it is meant to open the show and to promote the "Metal Kingdom" theme of their new album and shows.
They do have a live band, called the Kami Band, which you can't really see in this particular video. But they are some of the best metal/rock musicians in Japan and are just top shelf talents.
BABYMETAL is one of the most interesting things happening in the metal scene today in my opinion. They created the kawaii metal style well over a decade ago and have been evolving and honing their style ever since. They fuse elements of music, dance, and theater, and they are legendary for putting on some of the best live shows in the world today - everyone will tell you that you need to check out their live clips and performances.
They used to be a unit of one main vocalist and two supporting vocalists/dancers, but are currently only two performers (along with the Kami Band who back the vocalists). However, it is suspected that a new third member will be added back in April.
BABYMETAL is from Japan and mostly sings in Japanese, but they often intersperse English portions within their songs. They also have a few songs completely in English - one of them, called "From Dusk Till Dawn," is one of my absolute favorite BABYMETAL tracks.
BABYMETAL has one of the most interesting music catalogues in metal, and they do have many very hard tracks. Since you asked for a recommendation, I am linking an older track that will make your jaw drop called "BABYMETAL Death." It is an intro track used in the past to introduce the band and was often played to open shows, but is just amazing in any case. Anyway, here is the link:
    th-cam.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/w-d-xo.html
Enjoy. And welcome down the BABYMETAL foxhole. (The Fox God and Fox God imagery is the band's main lore and main theme, so it's called a foxhole rather than a rabbit hole - Just FYI.)

Good first reaction (good job on the pronunciations too) and welcome to the BABYMETAL Fox Hole.🦊As you have been told already, they formed in 2010 when the girls were aged just 12 and 11. They were originally a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin, but they separated from SG in 2013 to become an independent band in their own right.
They released their first album in 2014. That included the songs they had performed while they were in Sakura Gakuin plus new songs for the album. Their second album was released in 2016 and their third in 2019. That album was the first ever by any Asian (not just Japanese) artist to take the number 1 spot on the US Billboard Hard Rock charts.
This song 'Metal Kingdom' is the opening track from their 4th album which will be released on 24th March. Of course, the huge, theatrical opening number for the concerts. They played two sold out concerts at Makuhari Messe just over two weeks ago and this was filmed at those - as the video was released less than a week after filming they have used the studio audio .... but it is still epic.🤘🦊🤘We will have to wait for the DVD for the live audio.
BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocalist) and Moametal (backing vocals, harmonies and in charge of the choreo and hyping the crowd). There were originally 3 members with Yuimetal who was basically Moametal's partner in leading the choreo, backing vocals and hyping the crowd.
Sadly Yui last performed in October 2017 and after a 12 month absence for health reasons she left the band in October 2018.
In live shows since 2019 Su and Moa were supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) who would take turns to dance in the third spot. Momoko has been the Avenger for the last 27 concerts.
It seems BABYMETAL may be adding a new third member in April - most people think it will be Momoko, but we do not know for sure.
For live shows BABYMETAL are supported by the Kami Band - some of Japan's absolute best session musicians - they are all world class instrumentalists and they can play anything. This is just as well since BABYMETAL have over 50 songs and each one is different to the last. They all have their own projects or bands, so when dates clash other musicians fill in for them in the Kami Band, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians have been with BABYMETAL since 2014.
There is no other band quite like BABYMETAL. They invented their own genre - a fusion of every sort of metal with pop originally but now they will mix or blend virtually any musical style or genre with the metal.
They are the biggest and most successful Japanese band internationally of all time (there are many bigger bands and artists inside of Japan, but none are as well known or popular outside of Japan). They are also one of the very best live acts on the planet.
I hope you will follow Jake Muller's advice and recommendations for more reactions. You want something heavier from them (in which case always look for live performances - that is where they are at their best with the Kami Band behind them too) - The Legend 1997 live performance of 'Headbanger' is always a good start, 'BABYMETAL Death' live at Legend 1997 will surprise you in so many ways, but maybe leave that until you're a few more songs in, 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere 2014 in the UK to see how the won over 50-60k UK metalheads who were very confused about what they were about to see when the girls walked onto the main stage just 25 minutes earlier, 'Rondo of Nightmare' with the 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' instrumental intro live at Budokan Black Night, 'Road of Resistance' live in Japan.
The trouble is they have over 50 songs, no fillers, some good hard metal others leaning towards their pop roots and everything in between ... you may like some more than others for whatever reason and that is not a problem. What you will never be with BABYMETAL is bored - they are by far the most entertaining act of any kind that I have been lucky enough to discover in several decades.

Lady Moa. Hand of the Queen….
“All hail Queen Su of BabyMetal. First of her name. Goddess of the Metalverse. Protector of The One…. All bend the knee to Queen Su.”
As to your question about if there’s a live band that performs with BabyMetal. The answer is yes. The live band is called the Kami Band (Gods Band). A collection of some of the best session musicians in Japan. They tour with BabyMetal including their world tours. In the past, when Japanese Kami Band members weren’t able to join a BabyMetal world tour, BabyMetal were joined by Western (American) musicians that took up the persona of the Kami Band. There are videos that show the Kami Band’s instrumental intros before BabyMetal songs.
I’d recommend Rondo of Nightmare, Headbanger, Syncopation & Kagerou. Those are my favorite BabyMetal tracks. Live performances are the best to react with BabyMetal. But the record label, Amuse, is notoriously fanatical on copyright claims. As Jackmuller previously commented, there is a channel that dedicates itself in helping reactors get passed Amuse’s claims. Welcome to what we, The One (BabyMetal fans), call the Foxhole.

Very nice reaction! I like how, when the music first kicked in, one of you was headbanging to the drums and the other was low key headbanging to the chant. Each of you finding your own groove. :) There is a live band there, they just like to focus on the girls. It's kind of complicated because Babymetal started as a subunit of a Jpop group so there originally was no band. They brought in the live band later. Babymetal has a lot of lore which guides what happens as time progresses. Babymetal are performance art so they are not necessarily going to go all out in every song. They have a message in each song and create the song in a way that best conveys that message. So some songs are heavy and some are less heavy. You just have to go with the flow.

Great first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance. BABYMETAL started back in 2010 and have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 50+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too.🤘🦊🤘

Welcome & thanks from Japan, homeland of BABYMETAL 有難う💛。 You have started BM with the most recent music video filmed in the last month's concert. I was there 😍. BM is the best phenomenon in music I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

You just discovered a whole world of excellent Japanese bands. BabyMetal , Band Maid, Lovebites and more. Personally, I love the trilogy of lights which honor their late guitarist Miko. Three songs, Starlight - Shine - Arkadia, which demonstrate their versatility. To see more of the band watch Mischiefs of metal gods or Catch Me If You Can. A song about playing hide and seek with a demon. Into hip hop listen to BxMxC or Papaya. This band is just so elastic.

Oh, I forgot to mention, if you want their "heaviest" then that would probably be their song, Catch Me If You Can. Rondo of Nightmare is probably their darkest song. Babymetal Death is technically their heaviest, although it really doesn't have much in the way of vocals. It IS worth watching! ESPECIALLY Babymetal Death legend 1997 (the year represents the year Su-Metal was born. This concert was done during the same week as her birthday). You'll REALLY like that song if you're looking for heavy.

Hey guys, so this song was the first song of their concert. It was almost like an anthem. Babymetal went on a 2 year Hiatus and this was their first concert since their hiatus. Babymetal is a Japanese band that started back in 2010. This is kind of a strange first song to listen to as I said this is almost more of an anthem. So the main singer, Su-metal (you pronounced it correctly) was born in 1997, She'll always wear a Ponytail and she'll also be the one holding the mic. She has a deadly deathglare (check out their song Road of Resistance live in Japan official for a good example of that when she splits the crowd). Su is a very fierce force to be reckoned with when she is in her Su-Metal form, but turns into a dorky, cute girl when she is her regular Suzuka Nakamoto self. Next up we have Moametal (pronounced Moewah, I think if I remember correctly, you pronounced that correctly as well). Moa always has her hair done in pigtails and she has huge, very cute, dimples when she smiles. And she smiles often. I'm explaining all this because if you do react to more of their music, you're bound to listen to their older stuff, and when you do you're going to be introduced to Yuimetal (pronounced, "You-wee" metal). Yui had to leave the band in 2018 due to health reasons, so that is why you didn't see her in this song. Like Moa, Yui has her hair done in pigtails, but she has very chubby baby cheeks which she is very proud of. Lastly, because Yui left, Babymetal, for a few years tried to fill the gap with what they called the Avengers, 3 dancers that took turns filling in the spot Yui left. They only supported Moa in Choreo though and don't do vocals. Both Yui and Moa did side vocals and as such, although they don't have hand mics like Su does, they have handfree mics that are attached to the side of their face. You'll know your watching an Avenger as they will have their hair down and where there WOULD be pigtails, instead they have little, spikey buns.
So there you have it, a brief introduction into the girls, how to pronounce their names, and how to tell them apart from one another. Looking forward to watching more reactions by you two!

  • @BandsIKnow
    @BandsIKnow ปีที่แล้ว +24

I enjoyed the reaction. I hope you do more.
I would react to Road of Resistance Live in Japan next. It is quintessential Babymetal viewing, it shows every aspect of the band and their live performances. Dancing, Singing, pyro, insane guitars and drums, crowd chants, circle pits. The song is petty epic and you really get a sense for their concept. In ROR Live In Japan the girls are 17 & 15, while the video you just watched the girls are 25 & 23.
Musically their hardest song is probably Sis Anger, but I wouldn't react to that one right away because it doesn't accurately represent the band as a whole. Sis Anger does not include their lead singer, but instead Moametal & YuiMetal preform the song. The vocals are much higher pitched but the music is damn heavy.

I will leave the history of Babymetal for others (we fans like writing essays for reactors) so I will just give you a list of the Babymetal songs that I think are the heaviest.
    1. In The Name Of
    2. Babymetal Death
    3. BxMxC
    4. Headbanger
    5. Rondo of Nightmare
Just know that Babymetal's music is very diverse so sticking to only their heaviest songs will not give you an accurate representation of their music. So I hope your journey down the fox hole will be long and enjoyable.

When it comes to BABYMETAL, you have seen nothing yet. Truly an amazing and unique band. Kami Band included. 🤘🦊🤘
You really can't go wrong with any BABYMETAL song if you have an open mind and just find joy in music. These girls have a way to dance and sing into your heart. I would personally start with songs like Road of Resistance, Headbanger, Megitsune, and Catch Me If You Can.

So if you continue this journey, always remember to open your mind and let them into your heart and they will heal thy soul, #bestcultever

You cannot imagine how unique they are. Not yet. :)
There are no bad recommendations for the next song. Each of their songs is unique, on top of the uniqueness of the goup itself and the whole concept behind it.
For me, there is a fan-made music video with scenes from 17 live concerts of the last decade, that gives you an idea about the live experience. It is to their song "Distortion" - yes, it is one of the harder ones - and is even better than the official music video in my opinion. "The Epic Experience of BABYMETAL" -> th-cam.com/video/Q9nBpPsPeqI/w-d-xo.html ... louder!

    Good reaction, thanks!
This MV has the studio version of the audio over their last concerts visuals (from a couple of weeks ago). And the song is their new album (being released next month) and show opener. This represents their more mature and epic version. But you really need to check their early live performances. And yes, they have heavier and way heavier. 😁
Here is a good one to continue: "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997): th-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/w-d-xo.html
    Until next time!

Great reaction! BABYMETAL have a lot of heavier songs in their catalogue which were already mentioned here. "Sis Anger" might be their heaviest (next to "BABYMETAL Death" (live Legend 1997) and "Tales of the Destinies"), but if you want to see more kawaii "Headbanger" (live Legend 1997) is a good starting point. For the epic performance "Road of Resistance" (live in Japan" is great too.

Nice reaction. Welcome to the foxhole. Babymetal live is the best Babymetal. Because that is their metal kingdom. They were on a long break they called sealed. Started around the covid lockdowns. This video is from their first concert since then. The fans who are called The One. as in One with the Band. As you can see by all the crowd participation in the video. You don't simply attend a Babymetal concert. You actively take part in the show. They've been known to be life altering experiences. Being out for over 10 years the fans could write novels about them and you still would have all there is to know about them. This regal performance was the return of her majesties Su-metal and Moametal to their kingdom. The stage in front of a live audience. Because of covid many folks thought their first return shows would be virtual ones. That simply would not due. Babymetal is meant to be experienced. I normally suggest reactors to start at the beginning so you can grow with the band. Literally since they start so young. Now that you've watched their most recent song. It would be fun to watch their first song. It's not their first hit song. But it is their first song together as Babymetal. Doki Doki Morning. Enjoy the ride through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Well, since you started with their most recent release, and you want to know more about Babymetal and who they are, I would say start at the beginning. Perhaps start with their viral hit Gimme Chocolate(2014), the video that exploded them into a global phenomenon. Or perhaps their very first release from 2010, Doki Doki Morning.
You've seen where they are now. Now go see where they started.

funny you mentioned The Hu. you would not even know about them if not for Babymetal. Babymetal did a US tour in 2019 and The Hu opened for them on the northwest leg of the tour. Babymetal has opened for Metallica, Guns and Roses, Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. Avatar and even Bring Me The Horizon has opened for Babymetal. BMTH actually have been friends with Babymetal for like 7 years now and they put out the best collab of 2020, i think, with Kingslayer. Su the lead singer turned 25 this last December and has been on stage in some form since she was 6 years old. Babymetal was formed when Su was 12 years old and the other two girls who you saw one but not the other one were 11 when it started. most of their songs have a positive message and being uplifting. you kind of ruined your experience reacting to their latest song first. this song is first on their concept album coming out in March. next reaction to them should be Road of Resistance in Japan live or Karate from Download 2016. hard to believe that Su at 25 with Babymetal has been around for 12 years now. half her life has been Babymetal. she is one of the best front people period. her range plus crowd control is awesome.

Here are some fun facts about this Japanese group BabyMetal
    1. Their most famous song Gimme Chocolate was named one of the most important metal songs of the last 10 years
    2. Dragon Force performed Gimme Chocolate with BabyMetal
    3. The Red Hot Chili Pepper performed Gimme Chocolate with them.
    4. They are buds with Metallica and Slipknot
    5. They had a cameo in Corey Taylor's video
    6. They performed Pain Killer and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest
    7. They are the only Asian group to ever hit #1 on Billboards Top Rock chart.
    8. BabyMetal and Black Pink are the only albums by girl groups in history to enter the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums Year End Chart.
    9. In a recent interview Corey Taylor of Slipknot was asked who he listened to at home and he said "BabyMetal"
    10. In 2015 Vogue Magazine Japan named them Women of The Year.
Two other songs you should watch are Legend of 1997 Head Banger - (1997 is the birth year of the lead singer Su Metal) the audience goes bonkers and Road of Resistance Live in Japan their epic masterpiece. Newer songs I would suggest are BxMxC the official video and Pa Pa Ya! feat. F. Hero The girls are all grown up and beautiful and put on a stunning performance
Your next song should be Legend of 1997 Head Banger because it will shatter your concept of audience reaction. When Metallica saw them live they said they were astonished at their awesomeness

If you're looking for heavy metal, then I recommend my favorite all-female Japanese metal band Lovebites. They compose and play several sub-genres of metal like power/thrash/symphonic/prog/metal ballads/rock ballads, and they also seamlessly incorporate classical elements like Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Beethoven into some of their songs. In addition, you will hear more than one sub-genre of metal in one song.
