    My apologies Declan! I must have had finger trouble as although I didn't intend to make a comment...I was most impressed with the vessel. the Appledore yard have a long history of building beautiful ships and this trim little ship is no exception! My late younger brother Jon worked at Thornycroft's in Woolston, Southampton which also built beautiful smaller vessels. However, that shipyard has now closed. Apologies for my finger trouble! Rob (as you may realise, our home base is Clifden in County Galway). Best wishes.

    Just Googlified it. Has Wartsila engines. Best of the best. I don't care so much for the weapons and stuff. Does anyone know the cost?

    helicopter landing i don't see a pad on this boat ,is that because it's too small ,anyone know thanks

      No helicopter pad, the Naval Service tried operating helo's with Aer Corps; a disaster. The Aer Corps never failed to fly off the ship, frequently failed to fly onto the ship. Draw your own conclusions.

      @robert harris
      Apparently, the Irish Naval Service plans to fly drone helicopters off the P-60 class.
      There is no plan to have a capability for manned helicopters on these vessels.
      However, if they ever get around to commissioning the much talked about 'Multi-Purpose Vessel', that would have a helipad as built.
      There has been discussions about buying something like the Royal New Zealand Navy's HMNZS Canterbury.
      Not a great starting point, in my opinion, as that vessel has had a very disappointing service life. It has never been able to deliver the required capabilities, and has needed a lot of dockyard time.
      There are far better, proven, designs out there.

    Ironic that she will enforce EU law on our fishermen and the music playing is " NOW we are free".

    • @barryolaith
      @barryolaith 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hello Bob. The way I see it we joined the EU, benefit greatly from membership and can chose to leave. So, we are free. It's a rule based organisation and the rules are made by the members and voted on by the elected MEPs. Fishery protection is necessary, some people would fish the seas to extinction if they were let.

    How many illegal immigrants can it land in Europe in a given week?

    • @taintabird23
      @taintabird23 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +paul Smith None. But it can land thousands of refugees.

    • @TheMATTYB1234
      @TheMATTYB1234 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Taint ABird The Irish Navy are intercepting refugees / migrants and taking them to internment camps in Italy.They then claim they are 'rescuing' them!!It's more like arrest.They cannot refuse to be picked up.It's akin to the British army rescuing republicans in west Belfast in the 1970's.

    • @taintabird23
      @taintabird23 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +TheMATTYB1234 Well, you had been following the story you would be aware that the EU withdrew the rescue ships and people continued to come.They died in large numbers. 'They cannot refuse to be picked up' is a ridiculous statement. The whole point of taking to the sea is to be picked up. Have you ever heard of any of them refusing to be picked up?The statement comparing all this to Northern Ireland in the 1970s caused a temporary decline in my IQ.

    • @TheMATTYB1234
      @TheMATTYB1234 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Taint ABird It is very simple:
      The immigrants / refugees pay smugglers to ship them to Europe.
      When they land they disappear into the constituent countries and eventually find homes and work (in the main).
      They do not want to be 'rescued' because they will be detained in camps in Italy and Greece.
      They cannot legally leave these camps and disperse across Europe.
      Every now and then the smugglers will abandon them and in those cases they need to be legitimately rescued.
      You will then see tv pictures of these cases.
      Ultan Finegan when interviewed on Newstalk before departure said that his orders were to intercept every vessel and bring the people to the designated centers.
      When pressed, he claimed he did not know what happened to them, once detained.
      He said that no-one was to be left "unrescued". When Ivan Yates asked him "Why would they not want to be rescued", he repied "I don't know" "When they see our firepower, they usually comply."
      These people are being detained in centers without trial, in most cases against their will.
      Are you really telling me you cannot see the similarity with NI in the 1970's and people being interned?
      Really?

    • @taintabird23
      @taintabird23 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +TheMATTYB1234 Absolutely no similarity whatsoever. The majority of these people are refugees. A minority are illegal immigrants. The lack proper reception and processing is the cause of the problem on the European side. The lack of security is the problem on the African and Middle-eastern side.Given your analogy with NI in 1970s I would appreciate a link to the alleged radio report so I can judge for myself. If you are worried about illegal immigrants amongst the refugees, you have little to worry about.
