For those who don't know they all gasped when she said play a Volta because it was the same dance that her parents (King Henry VIII and Queen Anne) danced to many years before.
Oh baloney. No historical evidence of that. You're going on films. My interpretation is they gasped because in the earlier scenes, they danced this beautifully together and it was an amazing spectacle to watch. All her ladies (obviously) shipped this romance.
It was so shocking because it was considered a very scandalous dance at the time due to the proximity of its dancers. The lifts were also scandalous due to modesty concerns, but they make for a lovely dance!

Fabulously made costumes, and perfect matching of fabric designs to finish the garments to continue the accurate repeat of the pattern in the finished garment. However, it is without a doubt the most historically inaccurate movie I have ever seen. Her favorite lady "Cat" ( shown in this scene "blushing" when asked if she was in love) was actually historically 30 years older than Elizabeth and was actually her governess at a time as she grew up. A TON of other inaccuracies in the historical timeline, but the acting was superb, and the costumes were stunning and sewn to perfection. Having been a seamstress for over 63 years, I have specialized in period recreations for private as well as public viewing. It is all in the details and it is done masterfully. A joy to see as long as it is NOT viewed as historically accurate.
It was true when Elizabeth was crowned queen everyone even a few Catholics cheered on Elizabeth as they believed she would be kinder to the two Tudor sisters. Right? No? Maybe. Elizabeth had proven she was very clever and has a red hot tempered as her father said, "Hey! I may be a woman, but I am the ruler of my country as England is my wife!" That is how she reminded them who is really in charge of her country. It wasn't easy, but she survived through plots, men and enemies alike. A prime example of how she is the main woman who did her job right.

There's really no reliable proof that Elizabeth and Dudley slept together. In fact Dudley was married to Amy Robsart during the early part of Elizabeth's reign. But he didn't restrain himself from pursuing the Queen or other women. Amy died from a fall on stairs at their Cumnor Place, in circumstances that were mysterious. The rumor went around that Dudley had had her killed, and such a rumor meant that the Queen certainly couldn't marry him herself. She might be implicated in an inquest. Modern historians believe Amy might have had breast cancer that metastasized as bone cancer, and that she broke her neck on the fall on the stairs. Dudley today is not generally implicated in her death. The film suggests Lettice Knollys, the Queen's cousin, had her affair with Dudley and died in a poisoned dress. Makes for great drama but it's at all what happened. Dudley married Lettice after his wife died and she separated from her spouse William Devereaux. Dudley married Lettice secretly but when the Queen found out, she was furious and banished both from court. Dudley eventually returned to Elizabeth's favor, but Lettice was never allowed back at court. Ironically Lettice was the mother of Robert Devereaux, the Earl of Essex, who became Elizabeth's favorite for a time after Dudley died. Lettice actually outlived them all. I believe she lived until age 93. The film does get right, however, that she was very attractive.
