  • For many thousands of years, palaces have been built as lavish homes for heads of state or members of royal families. The word actually originated from one of the original seven hills of Rome, the ‘Palatine Hill’, where the Imperial buildings for the leaders of the city were built… and they often act as the greatest examples of grand architectural design of the countries that they’re in. It’s time to travel the globe to see some of the largest, oldest, and most opulent residences of all, as we explore the 15 most stunning palaces in the world.

When I was in highschool, I took German as a third language. My teacher had a huge poster of Neuschwanstein Castle in her classroom and I have been obsessed with it since then. Something about that castle/palace just speaks to me. Thanks for a great video, much love from South Africa🇿🇦

I visited in 2000. Although it has beautiful rooms, exquisitely painted murals and an interesting kitchen, I was not so impressed with its interior, which had rather low ceilings and furniture. Also Ludwig's private suite looked like it was a child's bedroom. The palace is also not very old. I do regret not visiting the adjacent palace though.

The ruler of Russia was Empress, not Queen, Elizabeth. Technically, Neuscheanstein is also a castle and not a palace, but it is magnificent. I was lucky enough to tour it (only saw Buckingham Palace from the outside). The palaces that I am surprised usually do not make these videos are the principal palace of the Habsburgs, the Hofburg in Vienna, and the Royal Palace of Caserta outside Naples, Italy. Of course you're spoiled for choices in St. Petersburg and its environs: the Winter Palace; Peterhof with its amazing fountains; Pavlovsk; the Catherine and Alexander Palaces in Pushkin; and Gatchina. Very good and informative video. I enjoy watching your videos.

People get mesmerized by the architecture and usually forget to make the basic questions: why we cannot build like that anymore? Who and how did they build it? Because peasants and mud stories should not stick to any thinking person... also, where the style came from? After a few questions, you may turn into Tartaria and Roman style... the two civilizations that preceded ours, and start inquiring about more recent architecture build (???) by the horse buggy man... almost impossible to believe... after that deep dive into past resets, including mud floods, until you finally discover where you are. Breadcrumbs in place. Good hunt!

Grand Palace in Bangkok is somewhat more interesting when you realize that it is a model of another palace that was built in 1350 that was much bigger and to the eyes of the people who have seen it, much more grand. This palace is in the ruin city of Ayutthaya and the bricks of this palace were used for the construction of the grand palace in Bangkok

That's one place I really want to go to before I die!! I'm part French and dreamed about France since I was little, the same reaccurring dream of being in old clothes and in a carriage. Not sure if it's just images from a movie or story, but I've dreamed I lived there since I was 5 or 6. I've got to check it out!

Thank you! I agree that it would be the trip/adventure of a lifetime! My dad was French/Canadian and my mom was French/native American. My dad spoke French, and I'm ashamed for life that I did not learn to speak it, I'm still kicking myself for not learning, but was a know it all kid, and now I am clumsily learning. I'm determined to learn to converse in French this year!

The dalai lama palace was a simple small fortress until the end of the 19th century (ancient drawings show it well ) and the recent huge building was built the last century... and had hold around 5000 slaves working for the lamas

That's because it's a very large mansion, not a palace.
