Oh the deep satisfaction when the mechanics are cleaned, simplified, stabilized, and optimized for minimal friction and electrical resistance! It results in the machine being the very best performer that it can be! So talented. 👏👏👏
Holy moly! Undoubtedy, someone "serviced" this motor back in the day, and provided all the extra grease (free of charge) and "improved" wiring cover (moar safety, dontcha know).
Hi Bob! Watching you do this was fun. Not going to lie, potted motors are one of my least favorite projects. But with that I was trying to follow your lead and tap out the brass bushings on one that I'm working on, and they did not want to budge. Nope. I think they're going to stay put. You will see 😂
Did you remove the set screws? YHou'll notice I didn't take oput the grease wicks... That was a mistake, they should come out first.. Your may be holding the bushings up, mine just sheared off!
@@BobFowlerWorkshop yep! I had previously removed the grease wicks and all of that, and yes I did remove the set screws. They just were in the mood to stay where they are. 😁
WOW 😮 that's the reason I keep staring 😳 at my potted motor machine. Don't have the necessary knowledge or courage to mess with. Yes I think my limits on machine is getting closer. 9 treadle and 12 other machines 😅. I just gifted one that I may get again if I can find it. All of this happened after my first handcrank I believe singer 28 that I am still working on.
Bob, I could watch you do this 100 times! I laughed, I learned something…what else could you ask for? Interested in those connectors you used, the shorter shank is appealing especially in a Featherweight. Think I can find them somewhere online? Hi Liz!
Bob, love your videos, just discovered them after purchasing a 201-2 that I'm restoring; Maybe this has been mentioned in a previous video that I haven't seen, but what size brushes are used on the potted motor for the 201-2? Thanks in advance!
I am sorry, but I HAD to say something when you removed the worm gear....ooey, gooey was a worm a mighty worm was he. He sat upon the RR tracks (oops, sewing machine), and ooey gooey was he. I couldn't help myself, it just had to be said for amusement!
Hi Bob. I have redone 3 201-2 now and always manage to balls up the brush tube holders so would love to know the size of the file you're using to get back into shape.
I'm using a cheap "Central Forge" set from Harbor Freight. I just measured the file, it's about 10mm wide. www.harborfreight.com/12-piece-precision-needle-file-set-4614.html
Technically, yes, they can be, but it's not a job for home gamers, that's for sure. I know I wouldn't even be thinking of rewinding. Sending it out for rewinding would be cost prohibitive.
@@BobFowlerWorkshop Thank you answering, I was curious if it could be done or if those parts were in the same club as the switches, being a finite resource. 👍
@@dennislett7896 I looked at those but went with the Hercules as I'm already invested in their battery system. Bauer tools are good too, I have their portable bandsaw and the 3/8" right angle drill (both are corded).
@@BobFowlerWorkshop that is why i am going bauer i have invested in the battery system. i have almost every tool now just 3 more to invest in. the chainsaw is amazing tool.

My shop apron needed a good washing after this one!
Yup that electrical nightmare drives my husband absolutely insane!
Thanks you sew much. Sewing is my passion. I love resecuing these machines instead of buying new.
I'm so happy you sent the electrics here to be serviced. She now runs great!

Forgive me for asking a question you have likely covered, what kind of grease goes in the grease ports for the worm gear?
A good grease to use is Sew Retro from the Featherweight Shop.

Just curious, can field coils and the armature be completely rewound, or when they go bad are they throwaways? Thanks for all the shmoo fests!😀👍💖

Hey Bob nice job quick question on your heat gun did the small nozzle come with it or is that something you bought for it?
Part of the included accessories.
@@BobFowlerWorkshop thank you i am going to get the bauer version.

Shmoo...just curious.... is this a combination of fecal material (sh) muck (m) and more fecal material at the end? (dOO)
Bo, but that's an excellent deduction!
If a little grease is good, then lots is better 😂?
