Hey Ben, if I owned an insurance company in the UK, I would be reading those plates to ensure we cancel any of our auto insured's who treat their cars like boats!
29 years, I've been repairing cars/light commercial vans, 6/7 days a week. anything from a headlight bulb to a crankshaft replacement and everything in between. And NEVER in my 29 yrs on the tools. have i ever heard of an "anti flood thingy" in a vivaro, trafic airbox/ airflow meter. What an absolute load of pure lies and bullshit. rant over, merry christmas everyone, and keep bending those conrods, and i'll keep charging you £80 an hour to replace them. whilst whistling to "that" mariah carey christmas song over and over on radio 2.
Every time it floods where I am, I end up rescuing people . What's astonishing is as I'm rescuing cars, more cars drive through. Exactly like the video...and im in a disco 😂
I hope a representative from the UK insurance industry is monitoring these channels and making note of the registrations. These dickheads are costing us all higher premiums. And anyone stuck down Slash Lane during the floods isn't insured anyway, because the road is clearly signed as closed. You are not insured on a road which is closed.
Insurance isn't paying for the damage. Intentional damage isn't covered and driving through high water which is clearly marked and hydro-locking is definitely intentional damage.

Engine survived deep water for now? So it is time to prepare for wheel bearings, transmission and axle/diffs fluids and steering rack - they all like being shockingly cooled by cold water and don't forget about some indoor electronics under the floor cover and in rocker panels. 😀
1:40. A good example of how a soaked air filter can stop the engine before hydro locking occurs. The majority of stranded vehicles are through that or wet electrics, not hydro locking.
Whats funny is that the air intakes are usually in the kidney grilles, at least on my F30 the air ducts on the lower grilles only send air through to the engine room by whatever reason...
I'm not surprised there is so much flooding. No one is maintaining the ditches and drains anymore. All over the country, road drains are blocked, and ditches are not maintained now there is no money. it's all backing up.
@@stikmannn Probably not. Insurance claims fall into two categories - 'avoidable' & 'unavoidable.' These drivers took the decision to drive into deep water. It was avoidable.
@5:05 A fine example of why you shouldn't drive through flood waters, Ben any ideas what that van hit under the water? There's a village near me, called Tirley (gloucestershire) - and there's flooding there on a regular basis. What nobody realises is the depth of the ditch by the crossroads, and when it floods you can't really see the ditch. Been a few years since I peered in to it, but it was 3 long bean poles deep, so, what, 25ft?
I guess I'm just amazed at how this keeps happening. I mean, don't you guys have flooding like this multiple times a year? Are these folks just getting lucky the other 30 years of their previous driving experiences? This is definitely one area where the UK appears to be worse than American drivers. For some reason "Do not cross when flooded" has been - overall - fairly well received in the US.
Question for my English friends? These videos seem quite common on TH-cam and the same roads in particular are usualy lined with people and camera phones along with someone in a 4x4 or some form of towing vehicle.......So my simple question...is there no other way around to get to the other side/destination?
It's a mystery to us too. I live about 2 miles from one of the places that is always filmed on here, and it amazes me that people go through it. There are plenty of ways to get around, it might only take a few minutes longer. I think it's a mentality of "it won't happen to me". But who knows!😅
People co8ld see dead bodies floating and they would still drive in there. Humans stupidity knows no bounds. Its a mystery how these people manage to acquire a license to operate any vehicle at all.
My rule for not costing mega bucks is if it reaches upto your wheel rims 100mm or 4" then turn back and find another route. Leave em to it - it makes good viewing👌
In the UK they trash millions on millions on practical IQ tests. When it’s flooding, the tests can be tried. Popular questions to find an answer to are, “can cars be used as boats”, “can engines run under water” and “is a car waterproof”. Amazingly many line up for testing, and the population loves it!
Common sense🤷♂️🤣 in any situation like floods etc is to turn around find another safer route what may take another half a hour is worth it over fuxking your car or any vehicle up 🙄 so many absolute muppets 👊
No, they do not read the car hand book which states for my BMW it's 9 inches max. And that would not include tidal waves created by drivers going in the opposite direction.
What always astounds me about watching videos like this is the shear lack of intelligence and the idiocy of the British public. How on earth did that Toyota Corolla think it was going to get through when the BMW X5 was submerged in the middle of it?! Unfortunately you see it in general everyday as well, the self importance is quite frankly embarrassing and it makes me angry! Come on people of Britain, don't risk it unless you know you can make it! Shout out to the guys who always rescue these morons, nice work 👍
They're not voctims of a flood. Theyre victims of their own stupidity
Spot on
yep
Victims of their own idiocy
We're all victims of the higher premiums these cretins cause.
Yep, they can see an abandoned car and think it’s OK I’ll give it a go, no wonder insurance premiums are up.
The critical thinking abilities of some of these drivers...my god. "There's a stranded car up ahead, I guess I'll just drive on through, should be ok"
You would have thought that the broken down car and the people filming would have given the game away
@ianhosier4042 I think we overestimate the intelligence of the average person.
to be fair, the stranded car _is_ a BMW though!
