This is probably the most fun game I ever worked on. When you have a henchman with you in the car, and you have a near miss, I hooked up the logic one day so that they'd shout out the lines that were supposed to be for when somebody else (a civilian or enemy) did a hit-and-run on them. It made me laugh so much - the idea that your employee was so terrified that he just yelled in alarm, including cursing you - that I left it in. And nobody ever complained! I love that we shipped with that in the game.
That's cool trivia if that's how things went. :) I often had the feeling some lines were triggered for seemingly wrong or random reasons, but it makes for some funny moments.
@@MangoKush One of the things that still breaks my heart about the game is that my pedestrian head tracking system somehow got deactivated before we shipped and nobody noticed. QA just weren't looking for it, so it slipped through the net. Somebody probably turned it off while debugging something else, forget to reset it and submitted their CL. By the time I saw it, we'd already gone gold master. The peds used to look at passing vehicles, glance at each other, women would check out your shoes etc. The shipped game had them walking around always facing forwards like zombies. Ugh. One of the reasons the game ended up fun to play is because the vehicle physics was tuned really well. A guy called Richard Mul did that. I shared an office with him in the final six months of the project. He was really good at getting the vehicles to kick out on turns just enough to feel fun to drive without making them hard to keep on the road. Very sadly Richard died around a year later, from a long term chronic health issue he'd been fighting on and off for around a decade.

QA are great and valuable people, but they just can't have the level of expertise required to assess the work done by such an eclectic team of people who all know their stuff. I don't know if you're still tied by an NDA, but that's probably the kind of snippets of code that could be implemented in modern patches with little efforts and lessen your regrets. :) Sorry to hear about the passing of Richard-looking at his career, he did work for other games I thoroughly enjoyed for their car physics, so I got no doubt he was a great addition to the team. Must have been a blast to work around him and on this project in general back then, hopefully you don't miss it too much! In the end, the game has its flaws, but I feel like given the high expectations people had and the small budget that was invested, the team's passion for the project shows, and it gives a unique vibe to the game that doesn't grow old. :)

Radical/Vivendi had originally intended the game to be much less ambitious, but the huge success of the Scarface 20th anniversary DVD release in 2003 had opened everyone's eyes to the potential of the product. So they undertook to make a GTA-style game, but there was not much in-house expertise on making games of that kind, so it was a steep and brutal learning curve. Radical ran four internal game teams, and my team had been working on a Tolkien game called "Ringwraith" that was oddly similar to how Shadow of Mordor ended up over a decade later (smaller scale, lower tech, but quite similar in feel and mechanics). Unfortunately Vivendi lost out on re-securing the Tolkien literary license, so the decision was made to can the project (a shame, because it was in very good shape) and double the manpower on Scarface. Even then, the game ended up delayed by over a year. Considering what a poor state the game was in by late 2004, it ended up remarkably playable by mid-2006. Not perfect by any means, and not really in the same league as Rockstar's games, but...pretty fun, as an ultraviolent and comedic Tony Montana Simulator.
@@KaitainCPS Back when DVD sales mattered and a one-year delay for a game was a big deal… :) To be fair, I think very few developers at that time had the knowledge to make a GTA-like, so I really think you guys made a great job given the circumstances. Also a shame to hear about that LotR game being canned, makes you wonder how many games end up in limbo because of licensing or money issues every year…
That’s the way I did it! You really are a kingpin when you get your own plantation, there was no reason to go back after the sandman missions but sometimes before I’d go to my warehouse to start some distribution I’d go to the plantation and just wander around 😂

I don't know if I'm the only one who experienced this, but I'm sharing it anyway: When I used to play this game in PC, back in 2008, before the last missions, I did many deals street drug dealers, and after the deal, I used to kill them immediately to get the money back. In one particular moment, when I killed one of the drug dealers, a glitch happened. When I got the money, I saw in the top-right that the raise was not stopping, it continued to give me money non-stop, so I left Tony there for more than 2 hours and collected a lot of money, I think I collected billions. I had to stop at one moment anyway, since the money was never going to end. And then I bought every property that was left until then, I had a large abundance of money even after I bought all of the properties. After that, I could finish the last missions. Did this happen to anyone else?
my friend Charles wishes he wants to go back in time to the 80s and smuggle drugs to Florida by using a station wagon " Grandpa Mobile " with luggages.

My businesses or car would keep getting destroyed because of them Once I started killing off the street gangs, and yes it is a hassle, my distribution missions became so much more easier
I remember having nearly 80 million and just grinding but it wasn't too hard,and just buying all the buisnesses no problem,so satisfying,except of course when your front gets attacked and its all the way across the map and by the time you get there you get the money but all your henchmen are dead:(
At this point of the game you really felt like a kingpin! You basically controlled the Miami Coke business since you owned the plantation to import of it as often as you wanted making 30mil or so! I used to love buying all the exotics especially Montana Financial so I didn’t have to pay anymore laundering fees!

I do it right after I get to the bank. One time, at the North Beach bank, I was attacked by a gang after distribution and I had to get to the front of the building from the back. I ended up dying and lost all the money I earned. It sucked and it made me so mad because it was a lot of money.
Clean and smooth driving, gonna try Pumah now after watching this video, it balance everything. I always go with the stampede to be safe or Ariel if i need to go fast, risky tho cause of the low armor. One thing that annoyed me in this game is that the rival gang attack your front that is far from you. Example, starting from Downtown, Macau restaurant get attacked or the chi peso. Starting from South beach, the babylon club get attacked. Also, are you on pc? This look good conpare to my game.
Thanks for your feedback! There's certainly no perfect choice for your ride. The Ariel is a great choice if you're a good driver as you'll complete the distribution quicker, leaving less time for gangs to attack your fronts, but it's far riskier as a single crash can cut your armor in half. Rides with the most armor can seem like a good option for less experienced players, but the truth is they're so slow you'll just get attacked too often to make it worth it. The Pumah is a great car that's forgiving while remaining fast-other great picks in that range include: Conick N29, Lakota Fastback, Bandit ST, and Delphine. Generally, you'll want to start distribution with the lowest possible gang heat and go as fast humanly doable so that gangs don't get too many chances to attack your fronts. Some runs will just be better than others, but if a front is being attacked on the other side of the bay, it's best to just let it die as it buys you time to keep collecting before the next attack. Also yes, this is recorded on PC with the latest patches available at that time to make it look better.
@@MangoKush I've tried the Conick N29 but the armor would get busted quite quickly, I've lost my money once bc the armor didn't endure and the car exploded. The Pumah is the best option imo. It's fast, the armor isn't as crappy, you just have to know the shortcuts and ignore the gangs in the cars and let them eat dust when possible. On a sidenote: I love that you got the bald dude henchman to go with you in the distribution, he's the best HAHA, I have a good time laughing with his cussing (and got disappointed when I didn't get him, it wasn't nearly as fun). Too bad he was left behind but for a good reason - you were almost finishing Downtown to go straight to the bank, so yeah. Great video and nice playthrough!

The N29 likely has the weakest armor of the bunch I listed, I gave other options in case some people wanted to try a different flavor but I'd definitely suggest sticking to the Pumah. Also yeah, I waited for the henchman once but couldn't be bothered a second time being so close from the end.😆
Pumah may be the most optimal choice, but only if a player is as capable as you in terms of successful drifting.. otherwise, Conick is the best car in this game IMO.. and it has almost the same amount of armor as Pumah has.. I don't understand why you thought its weak..
I play scarface again today, and for some unknown reason my stores got attack at so early during distribution. Yes, I cleaned my gang heat to 0 before I start distributing
its better to just drive the armored bank vehicle and ignore the fronts that are under attack- that is if you start from north downtown and instead of going to south downtown fronts you go north, south then the rest that are least expensive to fix if broken
To be fair, it's not like MMOs aren't grind fests anyway. If you get everything quickly, what's the point of even playing? It's like using cheats, it quickly becomes stale as piss. It's the journey that's fun, not the destination.
It's not explicitly mentioned anywhere, but it's shown during a cutscene where enemies crash through that wall. I figured it might still be usable-turns out it is! :)
Remember to lower the cop and gang heat levels before starting your run. The higher these are, the more you'll run into troubles. Gang heat does increase by big increments when collecting, that's why it's important to finish quickly so they don't attack too often.
This don’t happen on Xbox. Fronts get attacked by the 2nd or 3rd pick up. And it’s always the complete opposite side of town. You can’t get there in time before it’s gone.
What I hate about the distribution deals is you could be collecting funds from other fronts and then another front gets under attack way on the other side of the map and you are nowhere close to it. Does anyone else encounter this?
There are different things that affect demand (therefore price) throughout the game. Make a habit of not selling drug you pick up on streets to fronts else it'll reduce demand-sell that to dealers. That said, the most important factor is to own all fronts and manage a complete distribution to increase demand across the city. To make this easier, make sure you start distribution with low heat, that defense is maxed out on all fronts, and pick a car and route you're comfortable with. From there, each successful run will increase demand and profits. Just save your game before each new run in case a front gets destroyed or something else goes bad. Don't forget to purchase Montana Financial early on to launder money without interest so you can save as often as you'd like, then buy The Sandman's plantation whenever you unlock it to cut out the supplier leads mechanic entirely.
No magic trick, you gotta keep playing to earn cash and unlock bigger quantities. Also make sure to keep low gang heat once you can buy keys, else it'll reduce how much you can buy.
Thanks! This is the vanilla version of the game, I only installed mods to enable widescreen and fix compatibility issues with multiple cores. It does look pretty clean, but back then we likely both played it on a toaster which didn't help in getting the best out of the graphics. :D
Hey man idk if you’re still active but I need some help😅, I just took over the Havana compound and I was able to collect the revenue the first time but after that I just can’t idk why
I actually had the same issue during this playthrough with the North Beach storehouse and nothing I tried fixed it. I don't know what's causing it, so the only workaround I can suggest is to start distribution from a different storehouse.

@@MangoKush My gang heat's near zero at the beginning of the mission. once it started to rise, a front from the other side of the map gets attacked. There's no way to prevent this from happening right?
@@laren9559 Not much you can do apart from being fast. Most of the time, one or two fronts will be attacked anyways. Just hope that it'll be one on your way. If it's too far away, just give up on it, it'll buy you time and avoid increasing your gang heat even further.
A dislike curiously appears along your comment, is there a monopoly on 2006 Scarface distribution videos I wasn't made aware of?🤔 Let's analyze your video, shall we? Your car is a risky choice (it handles great and goes fast, but armor is weak, it was almost busted halfway through), your driving wasn't the best (coming to a near stop around 90° angles), you didn't memorize your own route (you went the wrong way after Fidel's Records, Whippet Gambling, and Sun Ray Hotel), and your route is just far from being optimized (took me a mere dozen runs to find a better one): - Starting from Little Havana is already a bad decision because you can't use the warehouse shortcut to go from Pedro's Pawn Shop to Oakley Drive-In (see 4:29). - You put your car in reverse many times where you could have done a spin (see 1:02, 2:27) or used a better way like around Angel Dust Donuts and Macau Fast Food. - Your North Beach run was chaotic, gangs did force you to visit Coco's Lounge and Disco first so I'm assuming you'd usually start with Stein Jewelry, but that still looks more convoluted than necessary. - Your South Beach run was pretty weak, going from Swansong Hotel to Sun Ray Hotel without using the back alley forced you to make several clunky maneuvers. - Part of the appeal of the route I chose is that the bank is close from the last front and it has a gas station right across the street to quickly fix your ride. I'm not going to timestamp and cross-reference all the things you could have done better because there's a plethora of them, all I intended to do with this video was to give a quick and safe route for anyone to beat the game, not enter a flexing competition. PS: Get yourself an HD-PVR if you're gonna record this much content on your PS2, it won't record HD videos since the source signal is at 480p, but it's cheap and anything beats a toaster.

Distribution becomes a money printer when you get The Sandman's plantation. Getting the other exotics has been a breeze for me ever since.

The goal of this run was to not use any cheat, that's why I use part of the payout to lower both gang heat and cop heat after distribution.

True, I also found it to be useful in improving driving skills for the GTA series games as well.
This is way easier then gtao money grinding. In gtao you’d have to do this, steal 3 cars and fly a plane backwards just to get 1 million

No magic trick, you gotta keep playing to earn cash and unlock bigger quantities. Also make sure to keep low gang heat once you can buy keys, else it'll reduce how much you can buy.

Thanks! This is the vanilla version of the game, I only installed mods to enable widescreen and fix compatibility issues with multiple cores. It does look pretty clean, but back then we likely both played it on a toaster which didn't help in getting the best out of the graphics. :D

I actually had the same issue during this playthrough with the North Beach storehouse and nothing I tried fixed it. I don't know what's causing it, so the only workaround I can suggest is to start distribution from a different storehouse.

You could say that, but it's massively influenced by your gang heat.
@@MangoKush My gang heat's near zero at the beginning of the mission. once it started to rise, a front from the other side of the map gets attacked. There's no way to prevent this from happening right?
@@laren9559 Not much you can do apart from being fast. Most of the time, one or two fronts will be attacked anyways. Just hope that it'll be one on your way. If it's too far away, just give up on it, it'll buy you time and avoid increasing your gang heat even further.

Your car is a risky choice (it handles great and goes fast, but armor is weak, it was almost busted halfway through), your driving wasn't the best (coming to a near stop around 90° angles), you didn't memorize your own route (you went the wrong way after Fidel's Records, Whippet Gambling, and Sun Ray Hotel), and your route is just far from being optimized (took me a mere dozen runs to find a better one):
- Starting from Little Havana is already a bad decision because you can't use the warehouse shortcut to go from Pedro's Pawn Shop to Oakley Drive-In (see 4:29).
- You put your car in reverse many times where you could have done a spin (see 1:02, 2:27) or used a better way like around Angel Dust Donuts and Macau Fast Food.
- Your North Beach run was chaotic, gangs did force you to visit Coco's Lounge and Disco first so I'm assuming you'd usually start with Stein Jewelry, but that still looks more convoluted than necessary.
- Your South Beach run was pretty weak, going from Swansong Hotel to Sun Ray Hotel without using the back alley forced you to make several clunky maneuvers.
- Part of the appeal of the route I chose is that the bank is close from the last front and it has a gas station right across the street to quickly fix your ride.
I'm not going to timestamp and cross-reference all the things you could have done better because there's a plethora of them, all I intended to do with this video was to give a quick and safe route for anyone to beat the game, not enter a flexing competition.
PS: Get yourself an HD-PVR if you're gonna record this much content on your PS2, it won't record HD videos since the source signal is at 480p, but it's cheap and anything beats a toaster.
