  • Here I reinstall the Roosa master injection pump on my 1650 diesel. This is actually the first video I ever filmed and I already had the pump off so I did not get that part

    Brings back good memories for me, the 1650 was my dad's first and only new tractor. Even though I think this 1650 is a couple years older than the one we had. The sound they made was awesome, they always sounded like they had way more horsepower than they did. I straight piped ours after my dad passed. Neighbors said they could hear it from 2 miles away. Ah the memories.

    When I was I diesel school we used to take these pumps apart to rebuild them. Many small parts inside. We would put the pump on a machine to run it and set each port to the correct preasure per cylinder.

      I’ve always wanted to rebuild one myself, but I always chicken out and just have it done. I’ve got a good pump shop that does it for around $400 and it’s not worth my time to try to do it myself and screw it up

    Are you self taught? That's how I learned mechanics my dad wasn't much of a mechanic but knew the dairy cows and how to grow crops. I always preferred field work to milking cows and doing barn work.

      I learned by having to fix stuff at home. Later on I worked at the ex AGCO dealership for several years.

    Do you have a video on bleeding this tractor or a 1755 Oliver diesel with the Rosa-Master injection pump.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I need to do a video start to finish next time I have to take one off. After you install it, just work your way down the line. Start by leaving the line to the injection pump slightly loose and crank until fuel comes out, then tighten. Then crack open all the injector line nuts at the injector and crank until fuel drips out of all of them. Tighten up and it should start. On my 1755 I ended up putting a high torque starter on because the original wouldn’t spin it fast enough to start anymore.

      I know, I need to make a videos of the complete process. This was the first TH-cam video I ever made and it was already torn apart. The dots on the shaft are only visible once it’s pulled apart.

    I do the same thing with the pic to get the seal in the correct place. I think I know where you get your pumps rebuilt!!

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have two different places I use, both local guys. It really just depends on how long the wait is. It took over a month on the 1755 because he was busy. I want to start doing them myself but it’s hard to justify because they are both so reasonably priced, it’s just better for them to do it.

      @@rosstheoliverman The guy I have rebuild mine is in Indiana and he ties open the throttle lever the same way and uses the plastic caps on the fuel lines. Thats why I said I probably know who did your pump work.

    What if u took a thin ziptie snug it up round the seal so it flattens it all the way round to get pump started

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That might work! They make a tool to put it in but I’ve just always done it this way.

  • @brandtonstockton
    @brandtonstockton ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How about priming it? I can't get mine to do anything. New everything.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have fuel to the injection pump? Also if it’s an early one like this one check to make sure you have the correct filter because the NAPA parts back will sell you the wrong one and the fuel can’t get through. It’s a 3165 filter that’s correct for that filter that has the pot metal top. If you have fuel to the injection pump you need to crack all your injection lines loose at the injector and crank for a while until fuel comes out. Then tighten them back up and try to start it

    • @brandtonstockton
      @brandtonstockton ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rosstheoliverman yes, plenty of fuel to the injection pump. It has a 12v fuel pump with fresh fuel. I checked it before the filter. Then after the filter. Then I checked the line going into the injection pump. All with lots of fuel moving.
      The engine turns over very slow and don't know why. All the others I've heard all spin much faster.
      I finally got fuel to come out of the injection pump. Then got fuel to the injectors (pump and injectors are new). Then I had to let the batteries charge up and finally got the fuel through the injectors... It runs Beautifully!
      It's actually a Parson backhoe but the base is the Oliver tractor. I bought it not running and have spent some hours on it. It still needs many more hours but it RUNS!
      Oh, and I wanted to ask about the number on the oil filter. This one has sat out in the sun too long and the numbers are warn off.
      Thank you for your videos.

    How do you get it timed if the marks were not lined up and you had to buy another pump?

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Either pull the valve cover or pull an injector so you can get number one on top dead center.

    Ross,
    What size tires do you have on your 1650?
    I have 18.4-38, and they seem big

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine are 18.4-34. That’s what most 1650/1655 had around here, but 38” was a factory option. The nice thing is yours will scoot down the road slightly faster with the 38’s.

    How do you prime the pump I have a 1755 ran it out of diesel?

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you really ran it dry you may have to end up cracking the injection lines at the injectors. But you need to start by bleeding the air out of the filters and the pump. If you have a transfer pump with a lever you can pump it until you get fuel coming out without bubbles

  • @daveterry1770
    @daveterry1770 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Which direction do you rotate the pump to advance the timing?

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m pretty sure it’s towards the block but don’t quote me on that. Just make sure you DO NOT try to adjust it while the engine is running like you can a distributor. I’ve seen a pump lock up doing that.
