I just recieved my first MBK, based on the age of the listing he was born some time in 2023 but I'm not sure his exact age. He's very small, looks to be about the size of the ones you've shown in this video. I have him in a 30gal because i honestly expected him to be bigger. But now I'm wondering if i should get a smaller enclosure until he's a bit bigger. Are there problems with being in too big of an enclosure? He has hides, loads of fake plants to climb on, and branches to lay on as well, so it's not a lot of open area where he has to be exposed. Would you recommend downsizing until he's grown a bit?
@@ReptilesandResearch When do you start handling them then, or at what age would you begin socializing? Thank you for the help - Getting my girl today and this information is exactly what I was looking for!
can i feed my 2-3 month old maya (MBKS) if her skin looks a bit flaky and dry? it’s weird, it doesn’t look like she’s about to shed (i have a lot of experience w snakes) it almost looks like she’s sick .. i keep it humid enough, have a clean water bowl, 2 humid hides on the cool side, all of that .. but maybe she’s like a week away from shedding? it’s just weird how flaky her skin is but doesn’t necessarily look like shedding how it kind of fluffs off. just looks dry. but no reason she should be. anyway im wondering if feeding her a pinky (it’s been about a week) would be bad? or fine? thanks x your videos are so helpful
I have an albino cali king. For the last month ish has spent most of not all of its time burrowed under the substrate on the cool end.. I stay in Scotland but keep my room around 20-23c all day. At night it’s around 19c.. over tank lamp 30w and is on a dimming thermostat set to 27-28c.. 20 gallon tank and my king is around 3/4 of the size of the tank stretched out.. only just started doing this and I’m worried somethings wrong.. Poop is totally normal, eats everytime I offer etc.. hasn’t shed for a good while and my room/tank humidity is always between 50-60%.. My other corn snake is totally fine exhibiting “normal” behaviour (touch wood). Any tips? Ideas? I understand it’s hard when you can’t see my setup etc. I take great care to make sure they are healthy.. and I’m just a bit off with this. Hoping it’s nothing and my king just enjoys it a little cooler.. If you have a moment I’d love your expert opinion haha! Thanks ❤ I should add my snake isn’t even a year old yet. Around 8 months I believe.
@@kirillukin2222 if she was brumating I don’t think she’d come out and eat so often.. she just retreats right back to that same spot on the cool end.. and burrowed.
I just got a MBK about a couple of weeks ago. Don’t know age, but is a little over a foot in length. Been trying to offer it food, but will not eat. Any suggestions? Should I just wait it out till it feels comfortable in new environment?
1st id start by making sure the cage is set up good with a warm and cool side with the right subsrate. If its still not feeding, trying feeding live if you have the access to that.
I'm planning on asking for a Mexican Blacksnake for Christmas next year so this will be useful.
Whats the best uvb lamp for a 3ft wooden vivarium?what's the best brand? Do you need a guard to protect from burns?

If there's not a ton of open space you're totally fine!!

Mines brumating too.
Think bout it this way - she has a choiceto warm up or stay cool and she chooses cool

@@Celticbhoys provably wanna take down the temps then.
27 30 should be the surface temp in the basking spot, ambient 20 on cold side 26 on hot
Is this a glass tank that’s screen top?
@@ReptilesandResearch unfortunately yes. I have the majority of the mesh top covered
