I used the SD card for stuff that is not used often and just taking up space. For example firmware to install on receivers. There wouldn't be any benefit in storing those on the NAND drive. You can choose where you want to store specific types of file in the System -> General menu. You would need to move the files in a file explorer on your computer. They aren't automatically moved when you choose the storage location.
This is awesome. I just got the X20S and am struggling. I am a Mac user so no MSFT browser stuff for me. Is there someplace that I can download a complete pack? Are you willing to share yours? I am more than happy to pay a fee for it.
Hi Darren , I have just loaded the amber sound pack into the audio file in my x20s but I can,T access them in special functions,it just shows this (-) .if I go into the audio file they are there under sound pack and show as a wav file, I,ve obviously missed a step? Cheers peter
It sounds like they’re either in the wrong folder or not the right format. If these sound ls are in an “en” folder. They won’t work. They need to be in audio. If they are in the audio folder and still not working. Try running them through the audio tool in ETHOS suite and re-installing them on the transmitter.
Hi Darren, I have a Horus X10 TX running Ethos and have set up a bomb release function to the LH slider. I would like to add a “Bombs away” sound to this slider via special functions. However, although I have been able to add sounds to other switches successfully, for some reason the TX does not seem able to detect the slider as an output. Is this a problem with allocating sounds to sliders in general, or just this particular TX? Or am I missing something? Peter B
To allocate a sound to a slider. You need to create a logic switch that detects when the slider has moved in to the position where you want the sound to activate. Then use that logic switch to activate the special function to play the track.
Hello, many thanks for your videos, just added my custom sounds and they work great. The thing I can't figure out is how to enable the system sounds for altitude, rate of climb/descent etc... when using a variometer. The numbers, units etc... all seem to be in the system audio file but when I use a variometer like on the SRX-8 the display works OK but I cannot figure out how to enable sounds
You’re welcome, I’m glad it was helpful. I’m not at a transmitter at the moment. But I’m sure the special function is “play value”. Then you select what you want read out.
Thanks for your videos i just got my x20s but did i hear you say you maybe doing a sound pack yourself for Line of sight peeps if so please let me know :)
Hi Ryan. Yes, I have a some sound files that use the same voice as the INAV Fixed Wing Group sound pack. Mine are more for my LOS planes, so have gear, rates, flaps, ignition etc in there. If there was interest, I can make it available on my web site.

Hi Darren, Installed Amber onto my X20S. Now on special functions I cant get any files to show on the WAV file box just a blank box. Done all the updates but still cant get any audio. Any Ideas???
Hi. What is the tape I see people use on foam planes? To say cover the leading edge. I have been using packing tape and an iron but was wondering if there's an actual monocoat type tape you recommend
For a just leading edge, you can use packing tape. However, you could use laminate, which is similar to covering material. In metric countries it’s called 75 micron lamination (or encapsulation) film. In the states it’s called 3 mil laminate. A mil is 1000th of an inch, so confusingly nothing to do with millimetres. Its not sticky, but when you heat it on, it melts the adhesive. It can add a fair amount of strength the the model.
Hi Darren from France! Can you tell me if it is possible to program a bouton than you can hear the actual time instead of having a look on my watch please? Many thanks
Hi Dany. I’ve just had a look in ETHOS, and there is no setting to do this currently. I will add it to the GitHub though, as I can see that being a useful feature.
@@MrD so many thanks Darren Gode job ! An other question : when will come back the CRSF from TBS ? For drones in FPV ( its a question of one of my friends wich i don't understand 😉🤣)
I think CRSF will be soon. One of the soon to be released transmitters is advertising ELRS compatibility. ELRS uses CRSF, so hopefully this is a good sign.
can you not play background music on ethos , its labeled bgmusic on opentx and when you select switch it plays the music wave you have selected and if you move switch it stops playing. dont see bgmusic on ethos only see play track only problem is it plays entire song and doesn't stop when you move switch.
Hi, in Ethos I’ve managed to play a wav music file (through the functions menu) but when I switch off the switch the music keeps playing. Do you know how to stop it ?
Using these directions a number of sound tracks, some from Amber 22 and some custom made, were installed. They were perfect!! Now, however, the custom ones made in the exact same manner, broadcast by the X20S greatly slowed and cannot be understood. The original tracks are still perfect. The new ones play properly on the PC. No idea what the problem(s) is/are. Something has changed but what is unknown to me. Suggestions to go back to what was are appreciated. No, I am not a computer tech although I am somewhat experienced.
It's possible one had the wrong sample rate. The error was caught after the first try. They currently have a 32000 ghz rate. Didn't help. Deleting the track from the SD card did not remove it from the list in the radio. Is there a way to delete a track from where it is stored in the radio?
On the x18 where's best place for sound file's. On mine I put on sd card an if change models I have to restart it for the sounds to work. I haven't been able to get them to work if I put them on the radio. But I think that it was user error.
Ok I put a sound pack on radio,an it works don't need to restart it when charging models. Is this best to do this? An how do i back up models to sd card. Is copy it on the computer the only way,or a way on the radio?
Honestly, I don't have that issue with the sounds on the SD card with my X18. By radio, I guess you mean the NAND storage. Either that or the SD card should be fine. The best way to back up the models is to copy the models folder on to your computer.
Hi Darren, Happy new year btw.... how do I stop the track from playing its full length on the transmitter? moving the switch doesn't stop it until the track has ended. Cheers in advance:)
How do I remove the annoying clicking sound on system buttons such as system, model buttons and so on. Don't want to lower the volume, want to hear what the radio is announcing. Thanks in advance
Hi Mr.D, I am unable to get sound out when i use the special functions trying to get VALUES to play. I have tried a number of different sources, RX battery, Clock, Lipo level, and nothing will play. I'm not sure if my files are in the correct location. I can get it to play a track. any help would be great, Thanks, Bill
The speech for the readouts are system sounds. You’ll either need to check on the SD Card (OpenTX or EdgeTX) or in ETHOS Suite (ETHOS) to make sure the system sounds are there and happy.

Anyone know the max track length or file size that can be played back in opentx/edgetx?
I don't know to be honest. Though people have used whole songs. I know as they submitted a bug report that if they had the song playing, they couldn't shut the transmitter down before it finished 😆
Hey Darren thanks for the excellent video! I updated my X20S today to firmware 1.2.8 using your video as a guide. I then attempted to make sound files with Audacity and text to speech. Everything worked fine on the computer. However when I loaded the files into ethos as per your instructions, the files all played super slow and at least two octaves below where they were recorded on audacity. Very strange. Any ideas?
@@MrD Hey Darren thank you for your reply. That is not the issue. All files were recorded at 32000hz as per your instructions. Must ba an unknown bug, as I noticed another subscriber had the same issue. Hmmmm????
I thought they had sorted it. Could you drop me an email on my web site. Then send me over a sound file that is playing slow. I might be able to spot something in the meta data that would take ages trying different things to make it fail.
I added some newly created tracks for high/med/low rates created from Audacity which play OK. Then when I power down radio and power back up the special function reverted back to the former amber sound track file. It's not saving the edited special function! Weird! Any ideas?
That sounds really weird. Are you exiting out to the main screen before powering down? Or have you tried switching to a different model and back to see if the new sounds are still used?
@@MrD x20s is brand new so I have only one model on it. I am going to main screen before powering down. I am using latest .14 firmware. Sounds like a bug, right?
@@MrD seems to happen only when SF is tagged as global. Might be an intended feature to prevent accidentally changing critical functions across many models.
@@ccaputo35possibly. I only set up my sounds on a per model basis. The only thing I ever had global with OpenTX was the volume on a pot. ETHOS handles this with standard settings now anyway.
I went on the text-to-speech website the other day to test out the Aria voice and it worked flawlessly. And then today when I was ready to record the files, I went on the website again and Aria is gone...
That website has become pretty hit and miss. If you check out this page. There is an alternative method which gives access to all the natural sounding voices www.mrd-rc.com/tutorials-tools-and-testing/useful-tools/transmitter-sound-pack-simple-phrase-page-generator/
Hi All... I also found that the voice selections are hit and miss on different browsers and even change from time to time with the same browser. But I emailed the support contact person listed on the web site and got a response with 2 hours! He/She updated some sort of script and now even more voice selections are there including Aria and they now seem to persist with each launch (using Edge). BTW, I tried a few other voices and found I liked "Libby" a lot more that "Aria". Her voice has a slight British accent, is easy to listen to, and more closely matches the system sounds in my new X18. Love it! Keep the videos coming Dan! Can't imagine doing all this without you. Tom Gottlieb
Hi Darren. I tried to post this a few days ago but can't find it. So apologies if this is a duplicate. What I really want for Christmas is to find a way for my X18 to stop reading out all sound tracks for the selected model on power up even when the "skip on startup flag" is on. It doesn't do that when you switch from one model to another. Anyone else have this problem? Happy holidays. love all your videos. Tom Gottlieb
Hi Tom. Sometimes TH-cam deletes comments that it feels goes outside of the community guidelines. I’ve seen countless questions where the comments are fine, but TH-cam deletes them anyway. Some I catch just in time or get an email for, so can see they are fine. But when I go to answer, they have been deleted. The TH-cam AI is too aggressive, has no concept of the context, and TH-cam don’t want to do anything about it. I have asked a few times. Anyway. That sounds like a bug in ETHOS. The skip on startup should work if the model is switched or if it is just powered on. The best place to report this problem is here github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community/issues I would offer to do it for you. But sometimes they will ask for extra information or model files. So it is better to do this directly.
@@MrD Hi Dan... Thanks for your reply. I wasn't aware that TH-cam would censor comments. Anyway I did create an account on github and will report this. Meanwhile I took a read through a large number of reported issues and was that ever interesting! I would encourage all new Ethos users to take a look. You don't need an account just to read them. I learned so much just from reading other peoples comments and replies on issues. Regards... Tom
Yeah, unfortunately they do Tom. It’s not like they put the comments somewhere to be checked either. They just delete them. The GitHub is very useful for information. If you have a problem, the closed issues can also show if it has already been fixed too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Running Firmware 1.0.19. Than
Hi Paul. On ETHOS your custom sound files should be in /audio/. They don’t go in the language folders inside /audio/. In the video, all the files you can see in the audio folder are custom sound files that I've already made. The Global Switch is a new setting in ETHOS to allow you to use Special Functions on all models. It was added after the video was recorded.
It appears randomly on that site I’ve found now. The Aria voice is a part of the Microsoft Edge browser’s real aloud function. That’s where that site gets the voices from. But, a lot more of the “natural” voices are sounding just as good now.

They aren't automatically moved when you choose the storage location.
Merci pour les vidéo very good thanks you
You’re welcome. I’m glad it was helpful.
This is awesome. I just got the X20S and am struggling. I am a Mac user so no MSFT browser stuff for me. Is there someplace that I can download a complete pack? Are you willing to share yours? I am more than happy to pay a fee for it.
Never mind..i got it...thanks for your videos they are very helpful.
@@MrD quite right, this is how to do it. Thanks again
No problem
Thanks for your videos i just got my x20s but did i hear you say you maybe doing a sound pack yourself for Line of sight peeps if so please let me know :)
Hi Ryan. Yes, I have a some sound files that use the same voice as the INAV Fixed Wing Group sound pack. Mine are more for my LOS planes, so have gear, rates, flaps, ignition etc in there. If there was interest, I can make it available on my web site.
@@MrD yeah to me they would as I fly line of sight and thank you for your videos not only have you showed me how to setup my new radio. Your the reason I bought x20s in blue hahaha.
No problem. I’ll get something set up for those sound files. It may be a couple of weeks as I’m just about to upgrade my PC. But I will get it done.
They do look awesome in blue though 🤣
@@MrD thanks good luck with pc upgrade I did mine not so long ago
So I have the X20S and I added the files and I can even play them from the file manager but when I add it as a special function and I try to select the file its just blank there is nothing there. It's not even letting me select sounds from the OEM sound board on the controller what do I do?
It sounds like the sounds have been installed in the wrong place. They will appear in the list if they’re in the right location.
Hi Darren, Installed Amber onto my X20S. Now on special functions I cant get any files to show on the WAV file box just a blank box. Done all the updates but still cant get any audio. Any Ideas???
They’re probably in the wrong place. The should just be in the audio folder.
Hey Mr D i edited my sounds like you did thanks. How do i edit the startup sound on my X20S from [Welcome to Ethos]
This option will be added to ETHOS in the future github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community/issues/1556
@@MrD so many thanks Darren
Gode job !
Hey there!! I tried it but it didn't work, I'm wondering if I need a microphone connected to my my PC
Hi friend, it is possible to start a video online recording from an external mini camera on the FrSky X20 transmitter
I use an Apple Mac so no MS Edge. What is the next best text to speech app?
You’ll still be able to access some of the voices on that page. Some others have improved too. Other than that, a web search is the best option.
I got it, can I use these sound for RM TX16S?
Yes. Any OpenTX/EdgeTX or ETHOS transmitter.
can you not play background music on ethos , its labeled bgmusic on opentx and when you select switch it plays the music wave you have selected and if you move switch it stops playing. dont see bgmusic on ethos only see play track only problem is it plays entire song and doesn't stop when you move switch.
No not yet. I don't know if it is planned to be honest.
Is the end user able to edit the "System" audio files ?
You should be able to Frank. But I would keep a copy of the files you change on your computer. As they could get overwritten in updates.
where the high / low rates file, can't find it?
That's a fun stuff. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Silvio
Hi, in Ethos I’ve managed to play a wav music file (through the functions menu) but when I switch off the switch the music keeps playing. Do you know how to stop it ?
That should have been fixed in 1.0.10. Which version of ETHOS are you running?
@@MrD 1.2.7
Sorry, I thought you were meaning switching off the transmitter. At the moment, there is no way to stop the music part way through.
You probably have the wrong sample rate set. It should be 32000Hz. Start at 9:00 th-cam.com/video/2AcB_jrFFK4/w-d-xo.html
It's possible one had the wrong sample rate. The error was caught after the first try. They currently have a 32000 ghz rate. Didn't help. Deleting the track from the SD card did not remove it from the list in the radio. Is there a way to delete a track from where it is stored in the radio?
@@MrD Doesn't matter now. The navigation buttons have disappeared as well as all my model setups. Such is life.
Happy New Year to you too. Short answer, you can’t. Once the track starts, it plays to the end.
@@MrD Thanks Darren, thought as much.... better change that Britney track then, oops ;)
@@grumpyrse for that Britney track, you could set it up as background music. There is a special function to pause background music.
@@MrD WOW didn't know that.... thankyou for your help😀
@@MrD not found this in ethos :(
How do I remove the annoying clicking sound on system buttons such as system, model buttons and so on.
I can get it to play a track. any help would be great,
Thanks,

Any ideas?
Thank you. You probably just have the sample rate set incorrectly, It needs to be at 32000Hz th-cam.com/video/2AcB_jrFFK4/w-d-xo.html
It could be because the file is stereo. It needs to be mono.
Sorry about the late reply. I wanted to test this out for myself. I can’t replicate that bug. It works fine for me and stays on the new sound file.
Sorry to bug you again have you ever had it in special functions where it shows wav file its just ---- some dashed lines and you can't pick anything ?
That sounds like the files are in the wrong folder, or all the file’s names are too long. The --- is the selector for nothing.
@@MrD thanks I moved them and boom worked thanks
Awesome 👍🏻
I went on the text-to-speech website the other day to test out the Aria voice and it worked flawlessly. And then today when I was ready to record the files, I went on the website again and Aria is gone...
That website has become pretty hit and miss. If you check out this page. There is an alternative method which gives access to all the natural sounding voices www.mrd-rc.com/tutorials-tools-and-testing/useful-tools/transmitter-sound-pack-simple-phrase-page-generator/
@@MrD Great! I'll give it a shot. I used ivona to try it out and it's not that bad. I'll try your suggestion though, thank you!

@@doranngottlieb2482 Awesome. Thanks Tom 👍🏻
No matter how many sounds I add or where I put them.i can't get a pep out of x18.

The best place to report this problem is here github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community/issues
I would offer to do it for you.
Tem do rádio frsky x20s de como fazer pra colocar o sons nas chaves?
Desculpe, a tradução não é muito boa no Google. Você poderia reformular a pergunta?

@@MrD Thanks for your speedy reply Darren, I'll try again. Unfortunately Audacity will not work on my computer.
Looks like they removed "Aria"
It appears randomly on that site I’ve found now. The Aria voice is a part of the Microsoft Edge browser’s real aloud function. That’s where that site gets the voices from. But, a lot more of the “natural” voices are sounding just as good now.
