    nice to find this video - thanks for carrying the added kit/weight to allow the filming of the entire ride. Hoping to be in Taiwan for work in oct 2024 and be able to ride the KOM challenge. Hoping to get to 6hrs as a fit amateur.

      Glad you found and enjoyed the video! Unfortunately, the earthquake a couple months back caused major damage to the road and the event is unlikely to take place this year. However, it is still possible to ride from the west side starting in Puli and it is just as challenging. Good luck and safe rides!

      @@petescyclingvideos I hadnt heard anywhere that the event might not run...and know its an important road that might get fixed 'quickly' - i'll see if I can find more info. I have some alumni in taiwan

    Wow Good job that you record this long video. This is so meaningful. I did Taiwan KOM as well so this reminds me of the memory. Respect your challenge!

      Thanks for your kind words. It is definitely a challenging ride and I wanted to record it since I cannot find a video of the entire route when I was doing recon in preparation. I'm glad it brought back memories and hope more folks can find it useful.

    Taiwan is a wonderful place for cycling🚴🚲🚵 it should be part on your to go places list !

      I agree completely! Taipei is surrounded by mountains that are within 30 minutes riding in any direction. Traffic is light once you are outside of the city center. Despite the traffic, it is a very cycling friendly place. If you go outside of Taipei, the weather becomes much better too. What's not to like?

      @@petescyclingvideos I completely agree. I did speed three week in Taiwan last november and circle around the Island. I mist time to do more mountain. 🚵‍♀🚵‍♂🚵⛰

    Wao, it is really a tough and constant grinding ride up and up.

    • @petescyclingvideos
      @petescyclingvideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is a very challenging ride. I think there is a total of around 4km downhill, the rest are all up. Just like everyone says, the final 10km is brutal, 10%+ and above 3000m with thinner air. But when you cross the finish, it is a great feeling.

      Thank you for your kind words! I had hoped to ride it again this fall but the earthquakes have devastated the area so it is unlikely to happen. For my last ride, I put together a training program for 6 months where I increased my functional threshold power by 10 Watts, dropped my weight by 30 Pounds, and had altitude acclimation exercises. It was a lot of work but the result was well worth the efforts.

    What bike, gearing and weight did you use?

    • @petescyclingvideos
      @petescyclingvideos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @dadcram I rode a Giant Defy Advanced 2 with disc brakes, 105 group with 50x34 front 11x34 rear, Hunt Aerodynamicist wheels, 2 water bottles, gels and electrolytes for 8 hours, tubeless repair kit, camera gear and batteries, Garmin, lights, and a mini pump. I don't know the exact weight, but it was not a very light bike. For me, the biggest difference is in the 6 months of training and losing 13kg during that time. My w/kg increased to 3.5 as a result. If I had a video of the full ride to recon it would have helped me gauge effort better, but the final 10km would still be very, very, very hard.

    was this a continuous 7 hour video achieved by a power bank? you even purchased the pricey telemetry overlay.

    • @petescyclingvideos
      @petescyclingvideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @bikingchupei2447, I used both extra batteries and a power bank. You can see a list of hardware I used for the recording in the video description. And yes, I used Telemetry Overlay, it was the best choice for me once Garmin ended support for VIRB Edit.

    • @bikingchupei2447

      Greetings! While I don't know anyone personally, I'm sure there are riders from Indonesia, along with other neighboring countries for the Summer edition. I just saw the Fall edition today and out of 700+ riders, more than 400 are from other countries!
