Gaahl is a creative, artistic person. So I don't see why people are shocked by the fact that he widenes his creative genius into something like clothes...

I think it's fucking rad that Gaahl is gay. It really destroys the sterotype of gay men, and the fact that he hospitialized a dude at Wacken because of homophobic remarks is badass.

The metal scene is a very male dominant scene and viewed as "manly" .. that is why many people from the metal scene would be against homosexuality.I was personally shocked, but if he's happy ..

I love how this is a big deal. He never really was "in the closet", he just never talked about sex or love. I'm sure if you asked him about this ten years ago he would give you the same response. Gaahl (I'm neither gay, nor satanists) is one of my heroes.
It's just that people still think in the heterosexual norm, so to speak, and when they "find out" someone isn't, their minds go "Wait, you're WHAT?!", as if it's a big deal. - But even in the last decade plus since your comment, people started caring less and less. - When someone "comes out" nowadays intentionally, either people go "OK, good for you." or congratulate them. - Of course people who have an issue with it will show their disgust, but so much has changed in just 10-15 years. - You see these celebrities come out as like... gay, bisexual, or trans, or gender-neutral, and it has happened so much that it's more like a marketing-stunt at this point and people just don't care anymore. - Probably even in the so-called Metal-scene it's like... k, whatever. - We've always had Rob Halford anyway...
As for the definition of marriage, no one can agree on who defined it, no one can agree on the definition itself, so anyone can just say that their definition is the right one and be considered correct by some people and not others. Either way, I don't see why we can't change a definition, no one argued this much when other definitions were changed to fit modern dialogue.
More ppl should just be like gaahl just calm and collective not giving a care in the world what the media or ppl think about what he believes or does with his life
Definitely appreciated Gaahl's refreshing perspectives. He had quite enjoyable responses, with an effortless straightforward sort of feeling. Also his personal outlooks (or realizations?) made by Gaahl, both on the world around him, as well as his own self seem so intelligently well-established, they come across as almost unconscious reclamation. Gaahls could right a novel.. "The Precursor to the Destruction of 'Giving a Shit" and Reclaiming The Power of Self Realization; On Finding Satan in We and Blackened Metal." -- note; if anyone is complaining about this interview's gay theme, Please Note; Blame the straight people that keep having gay babies.
He seems like a genuinely nice guy. I feel bad for all the hate this guy gets for coming out.
Im straight but this guy has been dubbed the most feared/hated man in Norway by fighting the most tyrannical, and outlandish religion that's out there by burning churches and torturing those who try to harm him, while being the front man in a successful black metal band. Awesome? I think so. Bottom line is that Gaahl is the fucking man even while fucking men and not me or any of you have his passion, integrity, and the balls to do all that he's done in his life. And he's a wonderful artist too.

I am a transgender metal head, it does not define me but I am what I am. It can be very hard in the metal world but it is what it is...I do know this, I met Watain again a month ago but this time I was dressed as my trans self and Erik and the boys treated me like GOLD OMG they treated me so well, I will forever be their Disciple.
15 years ago I hated on Gaahl for being gay. Called him all sorts of homophobic remarks amongst my very right wing friends.
And it took me 15 years to accept that I am in fact also gay 😑

On top of that, all of us are not made to do a lot of things. We're not made to use a machine to entertain ourselves; we're not even made to entertain ourselves at all. The point that I've been trying to get across this whole time is that it doesn't matter if it's natural or unnatural, because we do unnatural things all the time, and don't think twice about it.
I just find it odd. Gahl is much more traditional for being in the faith of Asatru. But then his mate is like a skater type like the opposite haha.

@Faerlon123 I don't agree with you that "most gay people" feel the need to display their sexuality, that's a stupid generalization. There's some who regard their homosexuality as an important part of their identity. Many have had to struggle with their feelings for a long time, and enabling oneself to "come out" could therefore be very empowering for the individual.
My point is simply, you shouldn't force some idea of how to behave properly upon people, gays or others.

In the interviews, Gaahl always talks about the things that grows, as at the end of this one. I think this guy is smart, he is interested in philosophical matters. However, I don't know, but I think there is a thin contradiction between his ideas, and the name of the band. As you know, Gorgoroth comes from the Lord of the rings, particularly this land in Mordor where nothing grows. Am I wrong?, so, what about the things that grows then?
He may have been Aleister's wife or male lover in a past life.

Guy sounds like an alright guy, everyone seems to tip toe around him like hes going to stun them or bury them down with "YOU FOOL" type comments, when all ive seen from the guy is just a genuine liking for pretty much everyone he speaks too or who will atleast chat with him - he seems very fascinated with people and seems to see the beautiful side of people. And also lol at people hating music because of specific sexuality - you wouldnt have alot of heavy metal if it wasnt for judas priest..

And for the "gay people can't raise kids" argument, I've seen multiple cases of that being the opposite. Time has an article on a study that shows how a lesbian couple or even a single lesbian parent can raise mentally healthy kids, and I saw an article of another study by a professor at Stanford university showing how a gay couple can raise children to be just as smart as a straight couple. It's not that hard to understand, my viking friend. He likes men the way you like women. It's as simple as that. He likes men the same way that heterosexual women like men. It's as simple as that. You know what would be weak? Acting differently than he is. He is keeping true to his real self, and I can only applaud him for that. The fact that you are ridiculing him only shows you have a minimal capability to put yourself in the minds of others. Be a man, and accept this man for who he is.
i very much agree. gaahl seems conflicted. i gather that he went to black metal because its the closest community he felt he fit into, but unfortunately communities tend to be prejudice against their own kind if they display any attributes that don't fit the mold. social survival is something people get very anxious about because they feel that if they don't fit somewhere then they aren't useful. i echo what you said - collectivism sucks.

Just because you don't think we should have an opinion isn't going to stop us from having one. If anything, it gives us more of a reason to state our opinion.
I respect him, even though I don't agree with all of his views. It will make the group of people listening to his music stronger and more sincere. Don't forget that people who flaunt the big macho look are also posers, which have been, are and will always be ridiculous assholes.

Propagating "inequality" tends to imply an inferior and superior categorization, at least socially. Historically, those that have advocated for inequality have seen themselves as superior, which is obviously predictable and convenient. Needless to say, they don't seek to be considered inferior. Those that have been labeled "inferior" have never been enthusiatic about perpetuating inequality.
It's not that weird to think that a good part of metalheads are gay. I mean, they wear lather, they like extreme shit, and in the case of Gaahl,have strong affinity towards art(painting, music and so on), and creating art. Not to mention that as an artist, especially when confronted with human anatomy, it's hard to channel your attraction towards male anatomy and not be gay. Some people go to the gym, to excuse this attraction.Anyway, the fact that he is gay, and came out is good for the others.

I'm a black metal artist myself. Just a normal guy, not trying to get attention with my clothing etc. Learn more from people, before stating something like that. If you want goth, go listen to HIM, Evanescence, Marilyn Manson etc.

Okay, 1. being born with one arm isn't an evolutionary trait only at this period of time and for most species, obviously including ours. But how do you know something in our environment won't change in the future that would make an extra arm useful? Kind of a stretch, but that kind of mutation still applies. If you think black metal is simple music with lots of distortion played very loud I invite you to check out Arcturus, Vintersorg, Windir, or Cor Scorpii. Many black metal bands easily reach levels of compositional complexity equivalent to classical music. It also usually carries some sort of profound message, which varies from band to band, album to album, or song to song.
All gay people should be like him, keeping it privately. Worst thing I see is all these people prancing around trying to get recognition for their sexual preferences. Frankly I don't give as shit about people's sexlife, and neither should anyone else. So Gaahl actually stands as a pillar for how gay people should behave, seeing as he didn't have this insane need to tell everyone like most gay people do. They should practice it more. Besides, he was the best front man for Gorgoroth. Ever.

2. Evolution does change only when the trait is positive (because of natural selection), but that doesn't mean it's meant only for huge benefits that change a species. If there was a mutation that had a male have no chest hair whatsoever, it could still become a common trait, maybe even become a near universal trait for humans. It just depends on if the person with that trait survives to reproduce, the dominant/recessive traits, etc. And I think we could survive without chest hair nowadays. cont

This guy lives in a place in the middle of nowhere. In fucking Norway, miles around nobody around. No girls, and he went to school with one boy until his 18, in the same house, and the kid lived 45 minuts away from that 'school'. So he hardly see any women.
I kinda' feel bad for Gaahl. He seems like a happy guy overall and it's awesome that he's comfortable about his sexuality but he doesn't fit into the mainstream "gay community" since he's not femme or into shopping/shoes. To slap the other side of his face (so to speak) it seems like there are quite a few outspoken homophobic assholes who were former fans of his, as seen in some of these comments, in the black metal "community".

I mean open minded in the sense that many different ideals are postualated by Black Metallers and some are socially unacceptable; occultism, "satanism", anarchism....It takes an open mind (or, I guess, a mind that simply doesn't care) to accept that. To me, it makes perfect sense for a black metaller to be homosexual; christiantiy loathes homosexuality, and what is BM "opposed" to?
I think economic inequality is vital to a successful and advancing society, the promise of a better life has been the driving force for most if not all inventors, but social inequality would remove that drive and create the same outcome. Someone who is looking for a better life is likely to get one by doing some greater good for humanity, but isn't given that opportunity if his sexuality or race discredits him.
