But he's also been a powerlifting champion so for someone claiming to be literally *beyond* natty, into another realm of physical consciousness, it's a little confusing to my sensibilities. He claims to consume almost no calories yet somehow maintains his mass - the physics don't work at all, like, the heat/calorie/work produced/joule/etc egghead burn rate modeling per mass of muscle, et al, of them. It's like the group of people who claim "we eat no food but air, we don't even drink water" and surprise, surprise, they eat food and water. I am 100% not affiliated with: *Dr. Nun Amen-Ra, The Architekton* (his words) If I can get huge eating nothing but little elixirs and lifting weights for 5 seconds a month, well yeah who wouldn't try it? (me, the suspicious guy who values their internal organ function right as it is)

When you cook the chicken properly, everything is safe. Washing only spreads the possible salmonella etc around with splashing, making you clean everything extra carefully..

Its not so much that the movement is inherently dangerous. Its the fact that, ON AVERAGE, you are MORE likely to do something wrong and end up hurting yourself in the process. For example, Is walking on a balance beam inherently dangerous? No! Is walking on a balance beam over the Grand Canyon ON AVERAGE more dangerous? YES! why? Because if you f@ck up and fall one is more likely to cause injury than the other. So, is a behind the neck shoulder press inherently dangerous, no! BUT are you more likely to cause yourself injury if you f@ck up the movement, yes.
Well...kinda. Accute injuries very, very rarely just happen out of the blue. You'd need to do something stupid like truly ego lifting and testing out your 1rm for the injury to happen then and there, and I can't think of anyone stupid enough to do that on BTN press. Chronic injuries do indeed build up over time, but again the body is pretty smart about giving you warning signs. Ignore those for months and years and "train through the pain hardcore life bro" and yes, equally you're going to get hurt. But for someone with an ounce of sense that progresses the BTN press sensibly it won't be an issue. Probably the safest way to do them would be standing either with a barbell or a smith (if the machine is tall enough) with the safties set so if you feel even a little hint of a tweak you can just dip your knees and land on the safties. My personal example of "dangerous lift" that I love and can do no issue at all is the upright row with a regular old straight barbell. I feel no discomfort, and the unique overloading benefits it provides (IMO) can't be replicated with any type of lateral raise. For any "dangerous lift" take it slow and super light. Have it as your second or third lift for a body part for a session and really focus on slow and controlled reps, high reps, and nail in technique. Eventually you can move it earlier in the workout and ramp intensity until maybe some training cycle you decide to move it to the primary slot. JM press is another great example. When done correctly its unmatched in terms of triceps stimulus (again, IMO). But to achieve the rewards the lift has to be intense. Its also very tough on the elbows if you haven't taken the time to build up to it and build the tissue resilience and overall proprioception to learn how to get the most tricep activation possible. Just my take on it.

Its not so much that the movement is inherently dangerous. Its the fact that, ON AVERAGE, you are MORE likely to do something wrong and end up hurting yourself in the process. For example, Is walking on a balance beam inherently dangerous? No! Is walking on a balance beam over the Grand Canyon ON AVERAGE more dangerous? YES! why? Because if you f@ck up and fall one is more likely to cause injury than the other.
So, is a behind the neck shoulder press inherently dangerous, no! BUT are you more likely to cause yourself injury if you f@ck up the movement, yes.
Well...kinda. Accute injuries very, very rarely just happen out of the blue. You'd need to do something stupid like truly ego lifting and testing out your 1rm for the injury to happen then and there, and I can't think of anyone stupid enough to do that on BTN press.
Chronic injuries do indeed build up over time, but again the body is pretty smart about giving you warning signs. Ignore those for months and years and "train through the pain hardcore life bro" and yes, equally you're going to get hurt. But for someone with an ounce of sense that progresses the BTN press sensibly it won't be an issue. Probably the safest way to do them would be standing either with a barbell or a smith (if the machine is tall enough) with the safties set so if you feel even a little hint of a tweak you can just dip your knees and land on the safties.
My personal example of "dangerous lift" that I love and can do no issue at all is the upright row with a regular old straight barbell. I feel no discomfort, and the unique overloading benefits it provides (IMO) can't be replicated with any type of lateral raise.
For any "dangerous lift" take it slow and super light. Have it as your second or third lift for a body part for a session and really focus on slow and controlled reps, high reps, and nail in technique. Eventually you can move it earlier in the workout and ramp intensity until maybe some training cycle you decide to move it to the primary slot.
JM press is another great example. When done correctly its unmatched in terms of triceps stimulus (again, IMO). But to achieve the rewards the lift has to be intense. Its also very tough on the elbows if you haven't taken the time to build up to it and build the tissue resilience and overall proprioception to learn how to get the most tricep activation possible.

I do think that things like BTN press and upright rows are great for shoulders though. It's so hard to get fired up for lateral raises and they're nice compounds that emphasis the side delts
