Why use acrylic putty? Use multi-purpose putty that was developed for Crittalls. How do you think they have lasted so long?? The Linseed in the traditional putty has protected them, also when the paint fails on the putty, the chalk works as a wicking agent to dry the windows between wet periods. The acrylic will do NONE of this, in fact it will hold the water in and provide the perfect conditions for rusting to take place. Condensation from inside the building will run down the glass and the acrylic will encourage rust from there also, by holding the water in the frame. Putty will do the opposite. Use muti-purpose putty and the correct Crittall glazing clips.

No cross blocking the glass ...how do you know if that old sash is square...and are you using poly or silicon

Looks like a Screwfix putty mastic to me, its like an acrylic based, thick sealant that you can paint the following day, as opposed to Multi-purpose linseed putty that will take a number of days to firm enough to paint. It saves time, so you can paint the window in a predictable time frame. But offers none of the protection qualities that real putty does. It may look nice and give a good finish but will offer no protection to the frame because of the reasons i have outlined above, essentially you are signing the death sentence of the sash.

How do you remove the side opener from the frame? The hinges look kinda permanent

There is a pin with a threaded end, often rusted up. If it won't undo, you have to cut the pin or drill it. Tricky job on a ladder.
