I loved their show and was disappointed when they got fired over the material presented on their show. It was stupid and ridiculous because everyone has the right to their own opinion and back then even the "MAN FROM UNCLE" show got terminated over a special episode that the President Nixon didn't like? Can you imagine the audacity of that man? So not only "The Smothers Brother got canned so did "MAN FROM UNCLE" A spy show.
Born in 56 and blessed with a wholesome childhood. Truly blessed by the lovely Smothers Brothers, Carson, Melanie, Rowan and Martins Laugh In. Precious yesteryears. What a tender but drastic time to be 14 yrs old in 70' 🌹♥️🙏
These guys were so hilarious! I remember seeing them before their 60's Smother's Brothers Comedy Hour show on various variety TV shows. They never failed to bring out a smile.
Oh God how I loved these guys! Tommy has always made me laugh so hard I cried, ever since I first saw their act on t.v. back in the early 1960s. RIP peace Tommy, and God bless you, Dick Smothers. America has always loved, and will always miss you two. What great memories you've given us.
R.I.P. Tommy Smothers !! My Condolences to His Family and Friends 🙏🙏 I Remember watching The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, way ahead of there time and to controversial for TV in general. What A Great Show ,Couldn't get away with it then and couldn't get away from it now. That's for sure !!
At 70, this is still as funny as it was when I first watched on the Carson show. The Smothers Brothers are part of my memories from the 60s, 70s, and early 80s.
A friend of mine did some work on Dick Smothers fireplace, and so he knew that Tom was approaching his last days through conversations he had with Dick. Tom was an icon in the purest sense of the word. He was there for so many groundbreaking moments in music and cultural history. RIP Tommy.
I had some of their acts on vinyl and would listen to them over and over again, memorizing them and singing along until the grooves were flat! Rest in peace, Tommy! I suspect he's going to be putting on a few trick yoyo performances in Heaven!
I remember they also had a line for this song that said “My old man is an odor decoder in the Brazilian pavilion of the Montreals World Fair.” RIP Tommy! 🙏
Tommy's deft and subtle joke (which some in the audience get) about appearing on Lou Grant refers to the brothers' show cancellation at the end of the 60's for political reasons. It is strongly suspected that Lou Grant was canceled for same, owing to the outspokenness of Ed Asner.
Used to have this song on a children's CD and would sing this with my young son on road trips. it was his favorite song and he still knows the words. I just loved them for their wit and humor. Never will have an act like that again. Smothers Brothers brought joy to the world and Tom will be missed by millions of fans
I grew up with only 1 of their albums to enjoy. It's Curb Your Tongue, Knave. I've practically memorized it & still find it funny. I transferred it to CD years ago & it sounds so clean now. Their famous unaired show from the 60s is on TH-cam to enjoy.
My parents let me stay up to watch their series when I was 11 YO. They were catalysts for so many TV comedians and shows that followed. No Laugh In or SNL without them. They performed a clean, legal, funny challenge of the goverment and society as gentleman - always. The sneaky way they slammed the cancellation of Lou Grant. They were lovable.
Laugh-In ran at the same time, and beat them at the Emmys. Two different styles of political satire. Also two different styles of show: TSB was a variety show, Laugh-In was skit comedy. As for SNL, their Genesis came from improv and National Lampoon, and the general counter-culture comedy that had been fermenting and formenting since Lenny Bruce (and MAD Magazine).
@@TorstenAdair "The cancellation of Lou Grant in 1982 was controversial. Asner served two terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild, during which he voiced opposition to U.S. government policy in Central America and worked closely with Medical Aid for El Salvador. The early morning I heard Tommy died, I woke up hearing about it in the news. I was lying on my back in bed. Instantly tears welled and dropped to my ears. It was like a porcelain clown doll was taken from us. I and my mom always found Tommy funny. Didn't know him, but I feel like a friend is gone.
When I hear the Smothers brothers' voices through their effortless style of harmonizing, I have tears coming down my cheeks, as when they sing together, their voices are incredibly beautiful and clear. And their voices project for me this powerful yet humble image of a delicate, but most resilient, glass bell that confidently responds to the subtle waves of air coming from the sounds of their voices, that then swirl about this clear and saintly bell, giving it its soft yet imposing "ring." In this video clip I was really glad to hear Tommy sing alone for a significant portion of this song choice, and doing so in a "modified dialect" that captured the greater essence of the song (even though it was a silly kind of song; but why not!). Tommy Smothers was a resident of my dearly beloved Sonoma County here in northern California. And I wish I had taken advantage of any performances or times that he would have been available here in the public arena, within my "greater neighborhood" that includes Santa Rosa. I miss Tom just thinking about him while writing these comments. And I also feel sad for his brother, Dick, who has to feel such a deep loss, as they were performing as brothers for many, many decades, and doing so successfully. ~drs (09/25/24)
Typical country song! Loved it. I watched these guys when they first came out and really enjoy seeing them again. We need them and their sense of humor now more than ever!
We started dating in February 1982. This summer we spent many nights at my parents. They would go to bed, then we would start watching TV , at 10:30, when Johnny would start. We probably watched this one. We loved Johnny. We will celebrate our 39th in May, 2024.
Rest In Peace Tommy Smothers 101, I don't want to be here that long. I have a son that died in my arms on Father's Day 20 years ago, from a motorcycle wreck. So 75 80 would be nice. 58 now. I'd rather be with my son before 101.🙏🏻
I was hitchig down Sunset Blvd. one day in the 60s when I was picked up by a guy who worked for the Smothers Brothers. He said he always picked up guys carrying a guitar, I went to their offices in a part of Beverly Hills and played a few of my songs for them. Tommy didn't stutter and they were really nice. I taked race cars with Dick Smothers and walked out into the L.A. sunshine thinking "see the word isn't so bad"...
Best times of my life were watching the smothers brothers show for that brief moment in history RIP Tommy you were one funny, mofo, and brilliant😎 PS this song is brilliant😂
a REQUEST in tribute to Tommy Smothers. The song "Four hearts and a snaggle" starts at 3:12 ends at 5:07. This song, this performance should be released as a new single in tribute to Tommy Smothers. It is sure to be a hit as well as a lasting tribute To Tommy and Dickie
Loved their show as a teenager. Funnest show on the air. Nixon had them cancelled. No big free speech issues back in those days. I don’t think that could happen today.
I am truly so sorry for your loss he and his brother is how ill remember him, ya know what, I just remembered that his so Tommy went to the same private school in the 70s way up by Hayfork,Ca. Huh, wow, my kids loved watching them too, every time I need a happy moment or need to center, I put the yoyo man on or the one where on their show they brought that funny spacey a little bit mixed up but hilarious to be honest hippy check, she was sooooi um, just care free ill say, buy those were so funny. Yes the Smothers Brothers will never be forgotten, ❤❤❤❤
So sad to hear of Tommy's passing. I feel that their type of innocent humor without being disrespectful to anyone may be a thing of the past. We need more humor like this beautiful duo.
I liked the Smuthered Brothers. They were nearly the best ever. Seriously. They are probably close to being near the top five hundred funniet brothers of all time in the last 100 years. They played instruments and told jokes and wore the same outfits and smiled a lot. That's a rarity only done at theme parks with stages on a thrice daily show or at Renaissance Festivals. Yes the Smurfed Brudders are very amusing. 😊
Thank you so much for this gift in remembering Tommy Smothers.
Rest in peace Tommy Smothers. You and your brother brought so much joy to my life. This was a great reminder ❤️😢
