It's optional. It's called lap 2 and you can do it if you're cocky or just want to get an A/S/P.

Uhm actually, it’s called a fork knight, not a cheese knight. I can prove this theory because one of the achievements are called. “SpoonKnight” and the description is, “parry ten fork knights.” Another reason is that it is called spoon-knight, which is supposed to by an oxymoron. 🤓

After getting four 98 combo clears in a row I watched this video to figure out what I was missing. After watching it I concluded that there was literally nothing different about my route and the video, tried again and got a 99 combo P rank of my own.
I still don't know what enemy I was missing.

Likely something before the room with John, or in an area that you don't revisit during the escape. I recommend beating the stage slowly at first in order to find and memorize where every enemy is and how to deal with them. Also keep peppino near the ground, or you might miss some. I got this chef task just now, took me about 2 hours worth of attempts

Day late, but posting for anyone else who comes to this video after us - in my case, I found that it was the forknight that spawns underneath the fastest path at 2:43 during the escape sequence. Doesn't spawn until you get close, spawns on both laps like other escape-only enemies. Sneaky!

I also have this problem: my game does not have pepino in it instead there are multiple characters and they all have guns, with which they shoot each other, also the entire game is in 3D and you play one of the characters in first person. Any tips regarding to what's happening?
