How Belagavi Smart City has developed Gender sensitive places under the Smart Cities mission!

  • The project was conceptualized as pedestrian friendly bazaar that stands out as an example for Belagavi city. Women are the financial plan here and they are enabled to create a whole new economy. The aim of the project was to develop a model of a bazaar street that can be replicated at various other street markets across the city. Accordingly, Belagavi’s first Khau Katta - food street has come up near Fire bridge Shri. Basveshwar circle.
    The key components taken up under the project were RCC retaining wall for protection at the backside, footpath flooring (Vitrified tiles & Pavers), MS grill work, ACP name boards for shops, colourful fountains, Tensile Roofing, e-toilets etc. Post successfully execution of work the spot has become one of the must visit spot of Belagavi to enjoy street food in a best hygiene. The project now popularly named as ‘Khau Katta’ has about 52 mini food stalls serving a variety of Indian delicacies. It has all the basic amenities, and all hygienic standards are maintained for visitors who would like to spend an evening in Belagavi. The structural aesthetic has features like tensile roof and has made it an attractive spot in the Belagavi. Feedback from visitors encourages businesses to learn about their problems in order to retain the existing customer base and stay competitive.
    This first ever built attractive food and shopping hub in north Karnataka has made the administrators in different cities across India to replicate the same. Not just from Karnataka but from many states across the country.
    No two shops in the market sell the same good or serve the same food. This place is now the most visited place by people from out of town and has surpassed every other tourist attraction. Earlier most businesses wanted to conduct events at malls. But at Belagavi they come forward to conduct product events at the Mahila Market. Such is the vibrancy of the place is that it has become an epicenter for the new food based economy at the city.
