An open mind is, sadly, in short supply these days. Congratulations for having one. Slavery did not begin in the 17th century, which is what many would have us believe. Today, sex trafficking is a form of slavery as well, in my view.

@TuPerCent yup plus people get confused, because different countries and cultures can use the same word to mean different things. For instance, in some places, a concubine was a sex slave. And others a concubine was pretty much anyone a noble was sleeping with that wasn’t his wife.

      Here is the answer:
Israel Cohen 1912 “We must realize that our party’s most powerful weapon is racial tension. By propounding into the consciousness of the dark races, that for centuries they have been oppressed by Whites, we can mold them to the program of the Communist Party. In America, we will aim for subtle victory. While inflaming the Negro minority against the Whites, we will endeavor to instill in the Whites, a guilt complex for their exploitation of the Negros. We will aid the Negroes to rise in prominence in every walk of life, in the professions, and in the world of sports and entertainment. With this prestige, the Negro will be able to inter-marry with the Whites and begin a process which will deliver America to our cause. .” AUTHOR - Israel Cohen (Zionist - Communist - Internationalist) “A Racial Program for the Twentieth Century” Published in 1912. On June 17, 1957, Vol. 103 p. 8559, the above passage was read into the United States Congressional Record by Rep. Thomas G. Abernathy.

They literally NEED black people to have suffered the worst pain possible. Any suggestion that maybe it was not always the worst thing imaginable makes them uncontrollably angry. They can't stand the thought that any black slave might have been whistling for 5 minutes while working. They need to believe that every black person was being tortured, starved and beaten to death every second of every day. These people are malignant.

I was taught all these facts while I was in US public schools in the 1970s. It was common knowledge then. The facts have not changed, but there is an effort to suppress the facts and present a false view of history (one which encourages division and the victim mentality). I am happy that you are investigating this for yourself. Don't be bothered by the people who want to stop you from researching and thinking for yourself. Just keep learning and make up your own mind. God bless you.

Beautiful. Very nicely stated Empress. We can all agree that enslavement of our fellow brothers and sisters is despicable. Heartless humans have inflicted brutality upon fellow humans throughout history...and even today...it's not just White people. I saw a photo in the Cabildo Museum in New Orleans that really shook me. It was a very old photo taken in front of a plantation showing the plantation owner and roughly 30 slaves on either side of the owner. The owner was a black African free-slave woman. Thank you for learning about this history and sharing with us.

Mississippi had quite a few black female plantation owners.
One, at least, had a significant slave holding.
The largest slave owner in the Carolinas at the outbreak of the American civil war was a black man, William Ellison.

The impression i have is that many black people in the USA have a narrow and inaccurate understanding of slavery, believing that white people enslaving black people from Africa was the only slavery that happened. It seems to me that Candice Owens' video was to inform black people in the USA of the bigger picture of slavery and relate the facts of the West African slave trade in the context of that bigger picture. The problem for the USA on this subject, and probably other countries too, seems to be a lack of education..

I have looked at a multitude of these reactions. I sort of expect ignorance on the subject in the US, politics over facts being the norm- I was dissaponted that young British reacters knew little about internal European slavery. However, it amazes me that an actual African person is not aware of the continents history.
The most scary thing is that I was aware of this general history 40 years ago yet modern day internet users know so little

Now you know what to be wary of when Critical Race Theory talks about 'teaching black history' to children properly. They want the '1619 project' version taught, not the truth. Never let the race hustlers divide us.
EDIT: Bit of a selfish request as I'm a Brit, but 'The British Crusade Against Slavery' would be a good one to add some more context.

You should ALWAYS seek to expand your knowledge base. As Socrates said "It is right to learn, even from your enemies". People staying ignorant of things is why this world is in such a sorry state. I saw the movie Ben Hur in 1959 when I was 6 years old. It shows slavery during the days of Jesus. It was written by a Civil War General in the 1860's. And the movie Sparticus in 1960. It was a true story about slavery before Jesus. They are Great movies! Slavery is even mentioned in the Bible, to " Obey your slave master". Actually, people today are still being enslaved. If you Google it, it says that there are about 50 million people enslaved today.

Modern slavery is when e.g. a poor laborer goes abroad to provide for the family and has his passport taken. He or she has to work long hours and gets too little money and can't return home.

I think it's important to remember that the world had different views about these things in that time. We can't think that those people would look at the world in the same context as we do today. As Candace Owen said about Aristotle, he thought of it as natural. It's just the way life operated in his time in the ancient world. It was accepted that people were in different classes, whether they were born into that class or put into that class. Slavery was a normal thing of those times. It took hundreds and hundreds of years for people to develop different views and make changes. I would even suspect that if we were to invent a time machine and meet one of those people and sit down and express our views. They would probably not even initially understand our views any more than we understand their views of that time. The world view among humans is constantly changing

It looks at the raids made by Barbary corsairs on the coasts of England and on ships at sea and taking the local people and sailors into slavery in the early 18th century. Thousands of Europeans were captured in this way and sold into slavery in the slave markets of Morocco. It’s estimated that one million Europeans were enslaved. It’s worth a look.

Hi there empress joy my name is John which is a name passed down one side of my family as Alexander is on the other which my brother is as proud as I am. Back in the times of the anti slavery patrolling John served on HMS London and a few other ships of zanzibar in the est African dettatcment and Alexander was aboard HMS daffodil in the same region on the same station. Those two along with other stories of our ancestors doing great things made us proud. There is something that my young cousin did in the mid 2010s he was out with his unit the argyle and Sutherland Highlanders ahead of there battlegroup and they came across a modern slave caravan they were in the very north of Kenya and slipping into and out of Somalia. When the battalion commander asked for permission to help and stop it he was told no and not create a international incident. The soilders of the battalion were going with or without commands so a plan was hatchet that at night they would go in with a piper playing at the other side the battalion would move in bayonets fixed ready for war walked out the dark and told the slavers who were very outnumbered to free the people and surrender as they were not just surrounded but infiltrated all the slaves were freed. The slavers were put in a camp but were out in days. Thankfully there was a Italian mission close buy and they took everyone in and got them papers to help them and they did not understand why they were doing it for duty not money and were sure they had to be paid for rescue. My cousin and his mates were flown from Kenya to the UK for court case against them lucky for my cousins team the diplomat to the UK from Kenya thanked the boys and said they did the right thing so did the Italian diplomat and in any event the British diplomat in Kenya was very proud of the men. No medals were given out and it would not be put on the regimental colours and no legal charges would be brought. They returned to Kenya for their build up before going to Helmand province, Afghanistan. The British government were able to get rid of most slavery but it now has to be those countries has to stop it as we now can't because of fake history

This is why we have to stand together, because that’s how we make sure that it never happens again. Together we are stronger, because unfortunately it is still going on. The child soldiers in Africa, the different groups in Asia. It has shifted, but it still happens in trafficking for example.
If the weak are the victims, we have to protect each other.

Slavery was an economic way of life that was horrible. This quote by Walter Williams sums it up perfectly.

It was not only a case of the strong against the weak that triggered slave transactions, it depends on the context. I am a Nigerian in my late 50's from the Eastern part of the country. My father told me that while he was growing up, if a child does not comply with family values he or she will be seen as a disgrace and a source of embarrassment to the family, and because of the high moral expectations from the larger community some parents sold their rebellious children to slavery. Some families also sold their children to slavery to avoid their creditors public embarrassment. Such children were not told the truth but their parents knew they were not coming back to them. I was told that community heads sold members of their communities considered miscreants such as thieves, murderers, etc., as a way of cleansing their community of their maladaptive behaviors. The awful sin of slavery is deeply rooted in the wickedness of man's heart regardless of their skin color!!!

I was just thinking how nice it would be to be wealthy around those times. Well in the context you were against it you could potentially buy slaves and free them. I'd be snatching up all the slaves, sailing them to a safe area and then let them go. That was such a well-constructed documentary through. It puts a strain on the mind to think how much suffering has befallen mankind. It's beyond tragic.

We are all one race, and as humans we are capable of great love and great evil, regardless of the color of our skin. When we learn to treat one another with respect and compassion, we can defeat the faction that thrives on hate and division. The governments of the worlds lose their power and their control when we come together as one and state with one voice that enough is enough and they will not control us any longer. Great reaction and huge props for your courage and your quest for knowledge.

Anyone criticizing or admonishing you for educating yourself does not have your best interests at heart. I'm not a fan of Candace Owens but she does add to the checks and balances to keep our society on an even keel. I'm glad to see you perusing your knowledge of history and the world. Thumbs up from me.

The book by Thomas Sowell is excellent. For what it's worth, there was a trade in kidnapped Filipinos from the outer islands in Southeast Asia until the US won the Philippines from Spain and began running patrols to enforce the borders.

When people are given only tiny pieces of facts and that’s the only pieces they’ve ever known? Many people will fight against it EXACTLY like you’re attacking their chosen religion.
We tend to get as close as possible to focus/ hyper focus on things like this. And when told to pull away for the rest of the picture? When the rest of the picture comes into focus? A LOT of people are ready to fight. Because they don’t want the fact that they’ve been lied to their entire life, to be true.
Also some people tend to think that by acknowledging the WHOLE picture is ignoring individual things or events in history.

How were Rome and the pyramids in Egypt built? Local slaves. Slavery still exists in every country today, especially all western countries. Slaves are still used to make most clothes you buy, Nike has been repeatedly caught using child slaves in Asia to make all of their products.

Actually the west is free of slavery. It's literally illegal across the west. The Brits were the first to ban it.
The only genuine slavery going on today is in the Arab, Asian and African ruled parts of the world - not the west.
It is clear that you are lying through your teeth.

My father was Slavic from the Balkans. Every word here is true and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know or have a clue what they're talking about. They're just mad or pissed off because they can't believe that they were lied to their whole lives and don't want to accept that they could be deceived so completely. In truth the first slaves in America were Irish.

Bigger people take advantage of smaller people, stronger people take advantage of weaker people, intellectually superior people take advantage of people not as smart, and people with money, power and resources take advantage of the less fortunate. It's nature unfortunately.

I guess I need to look to the Italians for satisfaction and reparations for the Roman enslavement of 4 nationalities of my ancestors. My Germanic ancestors who became German, French, Dutch and Anglo-Saxon Englishmen were conquered and enslaved. I could also demand the modern English pay reparations for taking my Irish ancestors land and shipping them to the American colonies to develop the western lands, fight off the angry Indians and often die in the process. Life is sometimes hard. I'm glad you are curious and looking for information.

Very few mention this when they talk about slavery..
When a community can afford to abolish slavery then it'll abolish slavery.
We currently live in a world where we have abundant cheap energy and technology driven by that cheat energy and we call it moral to not have slaves in that situation... Get rid of that cheap energy and we'll be back to slavery before one calendar year expires and we'll create the necessary excuses to make slavery moral again.

Even we in Norway had slaves during the viking era, mostly east europeans. And a fun fact below:
"between 1 million and 1.25 million Europeans were captured by Barbary pirates and sold as slaves in North Africa and Ottoman Empire between the 15th and 19th centuries."

From all the things i have read and listened to, Candace is correct. Sowell is a name i’ve heard referenced many times, so is probably a good place to go for reliable information.

Mauritania banned slavery as little back as 1981 and only made it illegal to own slaves in 2008, so it is fair to assume there are still people there in remote areas being held as slaves, sadly.
