Every time I get to see a peak behind the curtain of this show, whether it's the prop department, the writing, the costume department, and now the cinematography, I'm blown away by the attention to detail and how deeply thought out everything is. Amazing show. Thanks for this!
Seriously, amazing content you're doing guys. I'm a young filmmaker and I really appreciate how you manage to contact people working in big projects and tell us how they achieve their goals. Thanks.
You are never allowed to end this show. This information is so inspiring and constantly reaffirms my decision in pursuing a career in the film industry.
It is amazing how many things they actually have to take care of on something one would think of as 'simple'. I always like to watch behind-the-scenes or making-of after watching a movie/show. It will give you a whole new level of appreciation.
15:00 This is one of the best behind the scenes I've... seen? I'm in props & theatre lighting and when I saw the Joker spinner/bounce rig, it reminded me of a horizontal rig I made to suspend a mannequin so it could spin around a TV running the latest Sega game. The mannequin was on a curtain traveler with a counterweight so it could track in/out towards the TV separately from the rotation. You know, 8 hours work for the 1.75 second shot right b4 they say: SEGA!
Thank you for these behind scene guys. I really appreciate every detail you guys worked on. I’m going to rewatch the show because there are so many beautiful and memorable scenes that matches the amazing story.
Alertast during photo classes at the School of Visual Arts I realized you really need to be super smart to understand the technical aspects of photography/optics/photography…let alone this elaborate stuff. Doesn’t matter how much he explains…incomprehensible and extremely impressive…script, photography, acting. Chapeau!!!!
hey. Love all the cinematography episodes. But could you do more with editing & Sound and such? It's just as important and learning more about it improves all our films.
The in-camera work on this show is amazing. And while the CGI is great, they do forget the JMS golden rule of space camerawork: Dont move the camera! You don't have a good frame of reference in space, so when the camera moves you just make everything in the scene look like it's moving -- including moons!
I love the Expanse, just disappointed Netflix flicked it, means I have to subscribe to another content stream if I want to continue watching it. Having said that I am super glad for everyone that’s worked on it that it is back. Thanks Ted, awesome episode Cheers John
Actually the riot scene was one of the only scenes in the whole show I had a problem with, and it was the stunt guys playing the police. Watch it again and you’ll notice they and the crowd don’t really look like they’re pushing and shoving much. It really stand out. Apart from that one nit pick it’s awesome.
The set design an cinematography are so resourceful in this show that the mostly mediocre acting and writing work when it couldn't/shouldn't in any other show with lesser art direction.
They had swearing in the earlier seasons too. The American networks seemed to show some terrible censoring though. Not a bleep but full out replacement. S4 Avasarala is finally living up to her book character.
Who else is here bc they are teaching themselves filmmaking & planning to put the knowledge into action? There's a real duality to the internet: cat videos vs. resources to learn literal rocket science.
The sad part is he probably will never watch the show. The Expanse has that effect on people where they see it and think it looks awesome, but because it doesn't have name recognition they'll just forget about it and not watch it.
Great content, really informative and so cool. But. Who the hell did the subtitles? Series Station? Thomas James? Anna whatshername something novel Ovid???? PLEASE try to get just the basics right.
I watched it for its special effects, I think its one of the best in the industry. Better than that garbage Discovery and Picard, what a crock of SHIT that was.
The team behind this show is genius. There's nothing more to say... Wow!
my brain hurts! Absolute genius team to think of these lighting strategies! WOW
Mine is boiling

@Benicio Kai instablaster ;)
This is one of my favorite episodes because "The Expanse" is one of my favorite sci-fi shows. Great stuff, man.
Why don't you try seeing Adam savage's expanse coverage
i wish there could be more the expanse breakdown episodes...

No problem! Always happy to bring industry advice especially to young filmmakers :)
Wait, what?? Mind blown...the talent that works on these shows is unreal.
You are never allowed to end this show. This information is so inspiring and constantly reaffirms my decision in pursuing a career in the film industry.
Thing is, S4 is book 4, and there's only nine books planned with eight books out soo... it'll end eventually.
The amount of thought and detail that went into all of these shots, amazing!
Never seen a space related show/movie this good before. Incredible
I love this show! such much attention to detail, One of the best Scifi shows ever made
Just an AWESOME show and great breakdown!!

Great show that keeps getting better. I'm glad you showed a little bit of the cinematography behind it.
Wow. I'm such a fan of the Expanse AND such a fan of Indy Mogul. This episode is absolutely top shelf.
YES the Expanse is such a good show!
it's a very good show and now that I've seen a small part of it done, I'm impressed
Thank you for these behind scene guys. I really appreciate every detail you guys worked on. I’m going to rewatch the show because there are so many beautiful and memorable scenes that matches the amazing story.
YES! So glad you guys could make this happen!
The problem with the expanse is, because its realism is so good, its already hard for me to watch other space series without getting disappointed.

Amazing! Jeremy is one of the best!
Great Episode!
It's not the type of series that I like to watch, but the job and thinking that they have behind it's amazing!
The attention to detail to make this all believable is incredible. I can't wait for the next season. Or the next book for that matter.
Right?! Easily one of the most technically stunning shows we've seen so far
Let me tell you this show the cinematography WOW!!!!! I have no more words, you all rock on this show.
currently watching this on amazon....had to stop by. Thanks for this episode
We love you Jeremy!
Wow man...such a good episode. I feel like I could DP anything now haha. We are lucky to have you guys!
LOVE Expanse. This was definitely a very insightful episode!
I love The Expanse, it's one of the shows that's so good, it almost seems too good to be true :) Thanks for doing this episode!
Totally agree! It's crazy that they have their own department for helmets.
I would happily watch another ten hours of this!
So cool to watch this. I really love how they don't cut corners. Really cool
The helmets and the white point for the ship are incredible
WOOOOOW! This is so cool! I just love The Expanse! And Indy Mogul:)
That is soooooo awesome! Thank you for this breakdown. Props to all.
Fascinating and so complex! I will start looking for lighting in scenes more often now.
Pls never stop making these videos!!
Promise we won't!
super awesome. love this channel. Who needs film school? Just watch indy Mogul
Mind officially Blown. I have a lot to learn!
So good, just amazing, thanks guys and gals, just amazing work.
😇💩 dude! This is insane! My brain felt like it was on one of those spinning rigs. You guys have outdone yourselves again Ted...Bravo!
The zero gravity angle shooting, Brilliant!
This was really nice to see ! Thanks guys !
More people need to see this. welldone mogul
Best show I've ever seen.
Man, that's some Gandalf-level wizardry right there!
I'm still shocked I'm still watching the same Indy mogul channel. is been such a trip
Best Sci-Fi in the last decade and every time I see BTS I am astounded.
hey. Love all the cinematography episodes. But could you do more with editing & Sound and such? It's just as important and learning more about it improves all our films.
You are absolutely right about that. Stay tuned :)

I legit don't have words
The way 5 finished its going to be a cool season 6. I'd love 20 episodes
amazing video!

Thanks Ted, awesome episode

I love The Expanse & hype it to anyone who will listen to me.

This is amazing
One of my fav sci-fi shows. I hope the new season comes out soon after that whole Netflix cancelling it and amazon picking it up again.
Can we talk about how dope those stage lights are?
As much as I love this show, I feel like season 4's theme was "Hey everyone! We're on Amazon now! We can drop as many F-bombs as we want now!"
To be fair the books has a shit ton of swearing in it.
@@dibbledabble4405 Yeah, but I can read a book with my young children in the room...
There were plenty of F-bombs in the un-censored versions of the earlier seasons as well to be fair
They had swearing in the earlier seasons too. The American networks seemed to show some terrible censoring though. Not a bleep but full out replacement. S4 Avasarala is finally living up to her book character.
@@rivengle I guess "terrible" is one adjective for it. I wish somebody would make a show this good that I can watch with children in the house...
13:56 saldy NOT the real aspect ratio :-( or do they change the aspect ratio in later seasons?
They switched between two different aspect ratios in s04 one of them being 2:39:1
Amazing!
YES!
Best serie in the expanded human universe
Expanse is so good I hope we see similar shows if we see no more Expanse after season 6
Who else is here bc they are teaching themselves filmmaking & planning to put the knowledge into action?
There's a real duality to the internet: cat videos vs. resources to learn literal rocket science.
That was no kidney stone; that's the proto molecule. Hope he is feeling better. This was a great episode.
Mega, Uber Cool. 🤘🤘🤘
Amazing!!!
0:13 Scottie Hui!
13:33 Homie legit thought they shot that one in space.
Great stuff
How come anytime I see interviews with cinematographers, SFX artists, and the like, they seem to be using a webcam with like 480p resolution.
Wow, my brain is seriously now overloaded, I think I'll just be an extra
I just, can you guys rent The Volume? It seems so much easier!
TV shows are like 10 movies in 1 now a days which is why I search for tv shows more than movie
WOW..
NOICE!
Listening to Avasarala's voice is like being beaten by a satin pillow filled with marbles.
The sad part is he probably will never watch the show. The Expanse has that effect on people where they see it and think it looks awesome, but because it doesn't have name recognition they'll just forget about it and not watch it.
I don't think "the abyss" came out in 1899. Or was this a test? What did I win?
I was about to make that comment haha
"...Red because the Alexa Mini didn't exist then..." OUCH!
At least on the ships the actor's eyes seemed to have a look, like BMW angel eyes. After seeing this I bet it was a conscious decision for some reason
I’m tired of learning... just give me few millions so I can make a movie. This way I know if learned anything 🤪
Thumbs up if you're from Toronto!
😍😍😍😍
Imagine when we could build real film sets in space.
Getting the camera to not float away would be the challenge!
Ah yes, The Abyss from 1899.
I'm dizzy now
So do anyone want to be born 200 to 30o years from now to see how right they have it. We can imagine I guess
But, but. They're wearing blue helmets. I feel bad for the VFX team...
Great content, really informative and so cool. But. Who the hell did the subtitles?
Series Station? Thomas James?
Anna whatshername something novel Ovid????
PLEASE try to get just the basics right.
