- Let's face it, Ronny Rosenthal is famous for two things: this hat-trick and, err, something else. Anyway, this was a fifth round replay from 1995. And it's a game that has become part of FA Cup folklore. Spurs went on to reach the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners Everton at Elland Road. Here's Tony Gubba.
Grobbelaar definitely on the take for this game! 😆
100%
We should of won the FA Cup that year. Done the hard work from coming back v Southampton & beating Liverpool the way we did at Anfield. Then to get hammered v Everton in the semi final who nearly went down that year was guttering. We never turned up in that game.
I was at Leeds Uni at the time so only lived down the road from the game. I was the only Spurs fan left in my part of the ground with 10 minutes left, surrounded by 100s of empty seats.
You never had a chance to turn up. What people forget from that season is if you took the results Everton got from the November when Royle took over we were a top six side. We beat Utd twice, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle and despite getting beat played Blackburn off the pitch with a patched up side due to injuries.
The Brucie fiddle game with old pal Ronnie. What a game. COYS and Gubba rip on comms. Shame we beat Liverpool in qtrs but lost in semis. BRUCIE DEF ON ONE THAT NIGHT but still a legend.
what an amazing team it was.
Sheringham, Klinsmann, Barmby, Rosenthal, Anderton, Carr, Sol Campbell, Popescu.
Should have got more from that season
Michael Levy
There’s 3 Pompey boys in the team.
Rosenthal was not amazing lol, just that one good game......
Came from the bench when the team didnt make two passes and scored hat trick lol come on
Jesus yes it was impressive, but..... THATS ALL HE EVER DID LOL
it was a relatively amazing season, we had a 12 pt deduction overturned, klinsmann was incredible, we defeated liverpool in the quarter finals, it all fell apart when we got smashed by everton 4v1. But it was a highlight season of the sugar era.
I’m sorry but Grobbelaar’s performance in this game was just very suspicious
Watched it with a group of friends in a snooker club in Deal. Gutted at HT. Elated at the end. Phoned my girlfriends dad up after the game because she wanted to know the score. She phoned me the next morning. She said Rocket Raymond scored three didn't he. Laughing whilst writing this. Rocket Raymond? , it was Rocket Ronnie.
Still laugh to this day. Will always be known as Rocket Raymond forever. But I surpose you had to be there to find it funny. Coys.
Ah back in the days before every match was streamed on the internet and people actually used to watch MOTD without knowing the result!
RIP Tony Gubba and Alan Ball :(
This was live on tv
i guess im asking randomly but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot the password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Damon Walker Instablaster =)
Live on Sky Sports but had to watch in pub. Days when having Sky in at home or in every room in house not an option then. 2000 footy at home for me.
Bruce Grobbelaar on that sixth goal lmao
What a LEGEND and what a game it was
Ahh childhood memories, I remember watching this as a 10 year old live. Loved Spurs as a kid. NFFC Fan!!
The oringinal Rocket Ronnie.
Still a great hat trick.....
The only save Ian Walker made in his whole career @ 2:38 LOLZ
I remember being at college in a lesson, and predicting the exact scoreline... weird!
I miss the telepathy between Barmby, Anderton and Sheringham ... it was a joy to watch.
RIP Tony Gubba.
Grobellar is diving out the way of goals and everything clearly match fixing
I was there! In the away supporters’ section. What a game
Grobbelar obviously had a few quid on a rocket Ronnie hattrick!! 😁😁
bloody hell 6-2!
RIP Tony, great comm. Unlucky Bruce - good attempt at a couple of the goals, but...just...couldn't...get...there...ca-ching....allegedly....
He took his hands away.
Shame we didn’t produce such a performance on Saturday sigh 😳
I was at this game. 13 days b4 my 19th! COYS!!!!!!!
TONY GUBBA RIP
Grobelaar must have taken a bung for this one.
You needed to do your homework because before this hat-trick he scored one for Liverpool. That one would rank higher than this one because it was on his full debut!
Yes, away to Charlton 1989. Liverpool won 4-0 & Ronnie scored the perfect hattrick. Left foot, right foot & a header 👍🏻
Rocket Ron = Spurs folklore and Teddy/Jürgen duo of legend...🚥 COYS 🐓 N15 🇲🇺🚥
villa scored the greatest cup goals one against man utd and one against man city in living memory while gasgoing was ok lineaker was only world class
Once there was good football when we were kids...
What a great night
Great result.
Grobelaar was like a computer game
Thanks guardian for bringing me here! RIP Gubba! Is it me or do the goals look a little wider than they are now?
No the goalies were skinnier back then... XD
It was filmed in 4:3 but being shown on a 16:9 screen here on YT
Was this one of the games that Bruce fixed, sure as hell looked like it?
I'm a Spurs fan but it did look very dodgy from Bruce I think you could be right
Grobellaar was a dreadful goalkeeper
This was before we nicked their song lmao...
Who, what song?
Any idea why the Tottenham fan sitting with the Southampton fans dressed in White jumps up for the first 2 goals but not the 3rd?
Best Spurs player in living memory...
that's right, Darren Fucking Anderton
Rosenthal>Bale
4 times champions league winner vs a guy who hasn't won anything. i bet you feel silly now?
The best player out of Israel EVER
To be fair, not a great deal of competition... better than Mordechai Spiegler?
@@adambaker8689 Different generations, but still i say, better.Spiegler had a long career in Israeli soccer and some(not a lot)abroad(even with Pele in the USA).Rosenthal was better in Israel and abroad
@@adambaker8689 No, he wasn't an exceptionally prolific striker outside of this one game & his debut so no he wasn't better than Mordechai Spiegler this dude is probably a relative of Ronnie himself on a YT account LOL he wasn't better than Eyal Berkovic, nor was he better than Eli Ohana, or Nahum Stelmach, & if we are counting keepers he wasn't even better than Ya'akov Hodorov
Certainly does for Ronny's third goal.
Grobbelaar behaved extremely dodgy in this game.
Dodgy keeper... he must have had money on the game.
My best away game
@supahdupahguy81
think this was after the fixing allegations mate - could be wrong!
sorry i ment he joined spurs after they pulled themselves out of div two not he helped them out of div two before you bleet a coment
Juice Gobblaaar.
God, I'm funny . . .
Amazing wasn't more successful!
steve perryman gordon mabut and jennings are up there with demi gods while johny pratt will be exalted forevermore
Yep, Pat Jennings was magnificent. Notice how he could join Arsenal and still be loved by us Spurs fans? Pat saved two penalties in front of the Kop in one fantastic game against Liverpool. Sol Campbell didn't command that kind of respect - he was hated for going to N5. John Pratt was an underrated player, I liked him.
WRONG! The answer is Bassong.
also hoddle was quite good with martin peters jimi greves and martin chivers
Rosenthal > Torres
and dare i say it ardilles took spurs out of second div shit to cup winners and greves was ok also what about greves and paul allen????
Grobbelaar ought to have been sacked
Best hat trick ever lol
anderton rates with greves charlton best and jesus
Too bad, he couldn't play in the world cup. Being witb the European for qualifier is still an unsurmountable fro Israel. They had some great players like Rosenthal, Benayoun, Ben Haim, Berkovic etc. Perhaps Israel will never be in the World Cup.
Bruce Grobbelaar really was an average keeper. He had a great back 4 in front of him at Liverpool, but some of the goals in this match he really was at fault for.
Grobelaar.... hmmmmmmm lol
This was before we nicked their song lmao...
