    I must be missing it...can someone explain how this is better than just creating separate tracks with each instrument loaded on a separate track, and just switching to each track when wanting to play its instrument?

    Hey Brett - can you do a video on explaining the folder structure for Ableton projects and how to optimize? As it is, I have the Stable Rig project under a folder of the same name. If I create this video project it will default to the last open project folder (Stable Rig) unless I create it new rather than saving as first. I'd like to understand better how the folder/project structure works - especially concerning having to constantly look for and save missing patches to the project. Additionally, if you can discuss the differences between the .alp, alc, adg, .adv files and when each of them are used. thx!

    Hi Brett! Thank you sooooo much for this tutorial. It's literally saved my ass.
    Being an extremely Ableton Live newbie, I've one quick question though: Is there a way that I can set different tempo (BPM) to the sounds I've created? Since I'm using this way to play live in a band, it would be great if I could set different BPM to the sounds and make the sounds effects (delays and such) follow that tempo.
    Thank you so much in advance!

    I've been following thus channel for a while and it's been helping me out so much! I'm using Ableton for live looping guitars, bass, synthesizer and various other instruments. I'm using my Apollo twin and using my MIDI footswitch for easy accessibility and looping. My question is how can I get the best possible sound when I plug in through my PA? Should I be routing my instruments two different outputs? Should I use multiple computers? Should I get a DIY rig? Should I also be playing with my amps?Got any suggestions here for my output sound?

      Hey Joe. Thanks so much for reaching out. I am glad you have found this content helpful! I wish there was a super straight forward answer here - unfortunately there isn't one, but I do have a few thoughts that might push you in the right direction for what you are doing right now. When I run my keyboard sounds out for church services, I run all of my sounds out stereo by category, Keys, Pads, Leads, Aux. I do this because there is a dedicated sound guy who is able to help make everything sound perfect in the room. I can get things close from my monitors, but it's helpful to have someone put the final touches on things as is appropriate for the space. When I am playing live gigs, I mix everything using output buses, and then send the sound guy a simple left and right out. I do this because usually I don't know who is going to be running sound, and I typically will have a better feel for what works with my sound than someone who I have never worked with before. In both cases I run out of my audio interface into a set of passive DI's and thats that. My clarifying question for you is, In what why are you unsatisfied with your current sound? answering this question may shine some light on what tweaks to make on the way from your computer to your PA. Using amps can add a lot of character to your sound, but will also complicate the process of getting everything to blend well. I think unless your computer is crashing, I would stay away from running two computers. Some people reccomend redundant rigs, but I think in most circumstances this can be avoided. I hope this is helpful. Feel free to ask any clarifying questions. Happy to help as much as I can.

      @@LiveKeyboardist Yes thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I'm not the best with audio production but I'm still learning. I feel like there's a lot of things I might be missing here. For a while I was using my looping pedals in sync with my guitar and banjo for live shows- percussion from the banjo with my amp - then straight into the PA. These past few months I've been using my computer more and live looping with Ableton and using a midi foot switch so I can be hands-free. Now I came across a new problem. Depending where I play the PA isnt the best and I've been just giving them 2 quarter (stereo) inch cables into their d i. If I don't bring an extra monitor speaker for me I lose a lot of sound especially if I live Loop my drums. I was playing today at the studio and figure a solution, getting a powered PA speaker 4 my sound. Thanks again for reaching out to me! I'm always doing research and thinking about getting reamp box. Would love to use my amps live somehow. Or a player piano type instrument for my loops! God bless! Checkout my channel sometime too.

    GREAT TUTORIAL ! Thanks a lot. How about CPU, since the instruments are not "turned off" ?

    • @SLATER_M
      @SLATER_M 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should turn them off by mapping them to the correct chain selector value. I tested that out yesterday with a very complex live set (I play keyboard in a Pink Floyd tribute band - tested it for my The Wall setup) and if you do not turn off the devices CPU will skyrocket. Ableton also says in their online help that this is the best practice.

    • @MisterDelay
      @MisterDelay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SLATER_M Thanks for the answer! Not sure how to do that, though. If an instrument is on chain 2, is it automatically turned off when I select chain 3, or do I have to add a step there ? Thanks!

    • @SLATER_M
      @SLATER_M 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MisterDelay Step 1) Map the Chain Selector (the slider thing in the chain view of the instrument rack) to a macro knob of the rack (name it "chain" or so).
      Step 2) Right click on the device on/off toggle of the device and select "map to chain".
      Step 3) Click the "map" button of the instrument rack and set the values 2 to 2 at the value fields in the mapping for that device and it will only be toggled on if then chain selector is at position 2.
      In the Ableton help there is also a nice description how they think we should do it ;)

    Hey man thanks this tutorial is amazing! do you think it would be possible to chose the sounds in this way and then record a clip with that sound? Would that work?

      Glad you found it helpful! Has to do with which kind of message your controller is sending. Check to see if it is a momentary message or a toggle. Then change it on your controller.

    Seems like there is a delay in clicking the individual midi clips. Any suggestions?

    • @LiveKeyboardist
      @LiveKeyboardist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two things that come to mind are if there is a launch quantization set for the clip, or if you are using a controller to fire the clips, there is sometimes a delay if you have remote turned on for both the input and the output of your controller

    If you don't mind I just wanted this one to be clarified.
    Actually I have two midi track one with sd3 vst and another one with multiple drum rack in an instrument rack.
    In the 1st instrument drum rack..
    Notes C#1 & D1 has chimes samples and C2 has a Tamb Loop.
    And in the 2nd midi track, I am using the SD3 instrument rack, where I have created multiple instances of the SD3 instrument to omit C#1, D1 & C2 for samples and loops to be triggered in the 1st Drum rack.
    Rest all the other midi notes will be triggered by the sd3.
    My question is, is this the way to do it or some other method to achieve what i wanted?
    Because the way I did will create multiple instances of sd3 vst (i.e 3 in my case) and this affects my cpu usage. and moreover this is for one song. Some other songs have samples and loops placed in different notes in drum rack.
    Earlier I used the mainstage for this where I can assign the drum pad to trigger which vst midi note needs to be played and it was working fine.
    But mainstage is not stable with loops. I am getting a slight delay with the playback plugin while triggering the loops.
    Please help me with this.
    Thanks.
