For this album, the soprano and pianist have assembled a well-balanced programme of Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, and Poulenc. Extending from the 1870s to the 1940s, it juxtaposes audience favorites - such as Fauré’s discreetly passionate ‘Après un rêve’ and Poulenc’s nostalgic waltz ‘Les Chemins de l’amour’ - with more rarely heard songs.

Comme d'habitude, Sabine Devieilhe donne cette impression que chanter aussi bien ne lui demande aucun effort... C'est lumineux, naturel, elle n'en fait jamais trop... Et cette dernière note en prime... Bien sûr, le jeu d'Alexandre Tharaud, tout en finesse, contribue largement à obtenir ce superbe résultat, sobre et aérien. I have a few favorite sopranos for different qualities. Ms. Devieilhe is the best I know of for being able to FLOAT into the highest of register with seeming effortlessness and maintain sweetness and lightness to her voice; she is the MASTER of the top of the register!
