Damn I seem to have been beaten to the punch on making Flan a player character
That said there's another game I know of that aims to be directed at beginners (although rooted more in the arcade side of the genre), "Simulation 295" or some such - Jaimers did a run of its full game mode a while back

The problem's the harder patterns at harder difficulties like on hard and lunatic. I already know the basics and can beat most Touhou games on easy and normal. Thanks for the tutorial anyway though, Flandre.
