🐌 as a big girl running, I don't run fast but I like to run longer. I started running in 2020, 1st 5k was in 42min, best 10k was is 1h12, and now I am training for my first semi-marathon in Brugge in 2022. I am still big, but I am fitter and healthier. Thank you Running Channel for all the good tips. I would love to see a video that can help heavier runners. Plse!
Way to go Sara. I'm a big boy, been running since 1999. Your pace is respectable. Only advice I will give you is take care of your joints, by minimizing impact. Run hard uphill, gently downhill. Cross train with low impact (e.g. elliptical, bike, or swimming). Enjoy!
Running speed is not importent. Getting out of the door as often as possible away from the couch is what matters. A lot of longer Walks will help your joints. Long walks have helped me a lot.
Big lad here too! I did Manchester Marathon recently being just above 120kgs. The same rules apply regardless of weight. Strength training, rest days keep an eye on your pace all apply. I was always nervous about my size but you discover more and more shapes as you enter events. Some people will be surprised the majority of people will be absolutely buzzing for you. Good luck in Brugge!
🐶 - I selected the puppy emoji, because when a run gets difficult, I channel my inner puppy and just enjoy moving for the sake of it, rather than it being part of serious, organised training plan.
👏 A round of applause to everyone, who is on a running journey. It doesn't matter what stage, you're part of the running community, and that's what's most important 👏
I am currently training for my first half marathon in Oct. Aiming for 1:40 for my first half marathon. I run 80K last week and just run my first 21.1K on Sunday as part of my weekend long run. I could have never imagined myself running this far before this year.
🦴 I watched this video just after completing my first 10k since recovering from a broken leg. 🥂 This felt very intimate 5k to 10k discussions with dim lighting compare to usual hyped up format running outside 😊. Both are great content and very helpful. Off topic I want know more about Anna journey into running if I recall she, "couch to marathon" 😅 what a bad a**. It was the quick shorts content. Keep up the great videos

4 years and about 4 stone (heavier) since I last ran properly or ran a race, and just getting back into it. The Running Channel has been invaluable just to get myself back into the habit and focussing on the things, progressing and building back slowly, rather than dwelling on what I did and that it's going to take time to get back near that 😁
🐢 I am quite a slow runner, I came to the game later in life, but I am now working my way up to running a half marathon. I love watching the running channel videos and find the advice so helpful
Look here you lot , I've been a martial artist all my life, then 10 years ago took up powerlifting . This year I achieved all my martial art goals and needed a new challenge . Stupidly found you channel and have now signed up for an ultra ! Aged 58, loving my running but will never call myself a runner 😂
🏅 I have just had a place confirmed in the London 2023 marathon; this will be my first marathon and I’m so excited, so I order to help me train, my dad and I will be running a 10k in September and I am running a 5k with my work colleagues tomorrow for charity. Since I’ve signed up for all these distances, I thought ‘why not enter the Sheffield half marathon in March 2023.?’ This is the reason I’ve chosen the star medal, because it is my own personal challenge to complete these 4 distances within a year and it doesn’t matter how fast I run them, I just want to enjoy it all 🏃🏼♀️
💪I am training myself for a Half marathon in November and I absolutely love The Running Channel. I have learned alot and I'm still a learning process. I live in SW FL and there is no hills and I have to train alot on the treadmill so it's challenging. I am 54 yrs old but I have found passion on running. Thank you all so much.

But this slow step approach has been invaluable to get out this illness rut of the last month and work towards the marathon I was scheduled to do in November pre covid and virus. ⏰ because this was very timely. I've got 2 runs left on the NHS Couch to 5k app and the final one will be my first ever parkrun this Saturday. 😊 I'm currently doing just over 4k in 30 minutes at maf pace. No idea on pacing for this 5k, just going to keep my hr in the middle of the anaerobic zone and see where that takes me. I've got two 10k races booked for mid October and mid November in Oswestry and Beckbury so I've got about 10 weeks to get 10k ready. Bring it on. 😁
@@dresden_slowjog well the pacing went out the window I got carried away heart rate was 165-185 for most of it. As a near 40 year old that's close to topping out lol. Final time was 28:31 which Im over the moon with. I was hoping for a sub 30. Finish line was at the top of a slope which was tough, my legs were done by then. So now the focus is on easy maf runs and increasing volume to 10km over the next 10 weeks 😊 Thanks for stopping by to ask, appreciate it.
@T Irv Plumbing thanks for replying. I'm 44. Started running in 2020 after a decade of non-sports, often ran all out crashing onto the sofa half-dead and injured for a week, then repeat, not knowing any better. Then found the Running Channel, and the MAF method through the vlogs of "the plant powered runner". Painfree, injury-free base-building, perfect. Many months of MAF base building. Then turned to a 80/20 approach (80% slow MAF base-building plus 20% fast runs (one or two intervals/ tempo runs/ hill runs a week) and 2 strength&core sessions a week worked wonders on my pace. My 5k PB dropped from 28:xx(?) in March 2020 to 21:31 in May 2022. POLAR watches come with free 5k/10k/HM/Mar. running programs which in fact is a 80/20. I guess Garmin & co. offer the same plans. It structures my training and I cannot "accidentally" forget my S&C or mobility trainings :-) enjoy your journey!
@@dresden_slowjog ill have to check out the plant powered runner. Are you a fellow vegan? Yh I used to cycle commute and work in a warehouse so I was sort of active, then got a desk job and got fat and inactive. I started walking during lock down. Lost quite a bit of weight. Then started couch to 5k nine weeks ago. Only discovered maf training just over a week ago so I'm only starting out with that. Will give this parkrun a try again sometime maybe 6 months later and see what improvements I've made. I'm just on a cheap samsung fit for measuring hr and steps at the moment, but hoping to get a Garmin watch end of this year, start of next.
@@Tom_Plumb_PHS @T Irv Plumbing "the Plant Powered Runner" is vegan, and takes you on a journey of weightloss (and gain and loss) with his MAF training. I'm neither vegan nor overweight I just want to stay fit in the long term. What some don't like about Garmin is its judging bickering. I forgot her name, saw it on YT when a lady was being interviewed after her World Championships (?) 3rd place run (?) suddenly her Garmin proclaimed "this run was unproductive" ha ha ha. POLAR watches don't do that. They suggest to take a rest day when their sleep tracking spotted a particular cr@ppy night's sleep or overtraining. POLAR has other weaknesses. Avoid Vantage M. I had three of them. All broke at the same spot well within the warranty period. Love my Vantage V now (POLAR gave me a very generous discount on it after the Vantage M desaster). Others love their Coros Apex.
🐎 - because watching you all run makes me think of the speed, stamina, grace, and form of a wild horse at times, and how much I'd like to be like that some day.
🦵I have oa in hip diagnosed at start of lockdown, stage 3 so have to wait to stage 4 before a new hip, i have really struggled to mentally and physically adjust and am just about getting there by randomly taking on different challenges from youtube runners, my motto to help me is comparison is the thief of joy , so by doing these random workouts lets me be free just to get a buzz from doing something different, an example being to run 5km on treadmill with 500 metres of climb in 40 minutes, i use the treadmill as it is less painful, thanks for all that you do for us runners, best wishes from Somerset, oh and havent given up on trying for a trail ultra , so maybe a crazy emoji too !!! and finally , have a wrist operation in next few weeks, broke it whilst running back in january and its still broken, 🤲😊
So no competative runs for me. I have spent the first two months a year running or walking between work 5.5k total for both ways per day 5 days a week. The other week I did my first recovery run on Sunday at 4.4k then the next week 5k when I made a route with the distance I wanted. Covered 30-32k that week from actually running. Was very happy with that. No fast times just building aerobic base. My step up to 10k was as follows. The next week I ran 2 days so 11k then I was sore and worried about ice so no running for the next four days. Still covered 21k in walking over those days and it was brilliant recovery for my muscles and joints. Super happy with walking to revover. On Sunday I felt that I could run again and I was really missing it as well. Originally I thought step it up to 8K by adjusting the last route, but I decided there are pleanty of nice areas to extend the run by. So just go to the 10k distance once you have your pre planed route and run around a couple of loops near home. That is what I did. One slow recovery run no KM faster than 7min none slower than 8 min 50, finished in 82 minutes. I was so happy I was able to double my previous furthest run 1 week after the first 5k. My lungs and heart felt great and in control all the distance and after, my legs no sorer than any other run I did at first time distance in fact they were better than normal. Found out that between walking and running in the week I had hit 42.2k. So that is another milestone in distance covered on foot for me in a week. For my walking speed 10k I believe I would cover in 1 hour 49 minutes at my standard walking pace so 1 hour 22 at a recovery run is a very satifying pace for a distance never covered running by me before. Also it falls just over 1 month after my first all run mile. Progress won't be this fast in future so taking this as a big win for a late 30s obese non runner.
😮💨 as progress is never easy, it’s a constant that builds up overtime to improve and get better at running. I would always look like that emoji after a good/bad run but it shows that I did try and it’s a part of the process towards the goals I set for myself :)
💃🏾 This is how I feel after I have been for a run, because I’m grateful I can run where others can’t. Absolutely love this channel and learned so much from it. Keep up the awesome work 👍🏽🥰😀
🐕I don't currently have any pets but I'd love to get a dog someday, and towards the end of a run when I'm losing motivation, I tell myself that I need to get fit so I can give my future dog the life she deserves!
😱- how I feel after each run and how my improvement is going and then 😬 how I feel when I want to reach a certain pace 😩, telling myself I can do better next time. Not all my runs will be great. Just to keep going and try harder the next day to include rest and strength training. Thank you for this video, love it 😊
you may feel like your lungs are on fire, that feeling passes, honest...keep at everyone! run for yourself, and no one else! p.s - keep up the great vids!
🌍 - Because running is the best way to see the world. Love running in other countries and seeing parts of cities I'd never as a non-running tourist. Also 3⃣ for being a subscriber for that many years! And 🚿 because it's what my Fiancee orders me into after every run.
This is timely for me. I have a 5 k on the 7th, and then I start training for my first 10k. At this point, my long runs are typically 10-12k, so I know I can make it, but I'd like to do it faster than my "easy run" pace without messing myself up by launching off at 5k pace.
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 love the channel, always on point with great advice. I also agree with Sarah De Vos comment, advice for the not so slim and fast runner please 🙂
🐓 - yup, a chicken.....because despite now having run for almost three years I'm still much too chicken to enter a race! Still love all your videos about them though!
I don't know where you live Rebecca, but if it's the UK there will be a 'Parkrun' near you. They are not so much a race as a social event. Go along and join in the fun. It's free and it is every Saturday morning at 9am. Go for it!
I was the same way. I ran for years before doing a race, then I did a marathon. They are a ton of fun, and if you've been running even sort of consistently for 3 years I'm sure you'll do better than you think.
🌀 As an on and off follower of the Running Channel, I find this information valuable but something that you've told us already. However, what does it for me here is the casual conversation nature of the video. Perhaps you should look into doing more videos like this (especially with Anna and Andy).
I've just started a Garmin watch plan to improve my 10km time, to get it down to 45 minutes from 53 minutes. This should also have a benefit to my parkrun times. I initially got to 10km (70 mins) by increasing my long run each week by about 10% and doing a mixture of other shorter runs on the other two running days of the week.
😋 Running should be fun and not taken too seriously, otherwise we can get over it quickly, thats why it is nice to run a range of races like you guys all show us, smashing 5kms, marathons, ultras/24 hour races, they can all be fun with the right mindset :)
😴 I picked this because sleep is important but like a lot of people I'm not good at it. Also, Andy's advice about there being more in the tank than you think is good.
🏃🏻 I will use the runner emoji. I escape into running. It’s my me time during the week to gather my thoughts. The longer the run, the better. I have run 5ks all the way up to marathon. Ultras might be next.
🌄 shockingly, as a non-early morning person I love sunrise jogs. In summer when it's not yet hot and the air is clear, free of ozone and not a ton of sunscreen. in magical autumn mist, and, easiest, in winter as it's so much easier. In spring, to hear the migratory birds sing again after the too long winter. I set my goal to see more sundawns and sunsets in my life and I love this change I've made. It's wholesome.
🤕 because im currently injured! & its not a running injury its a horse riding injury! running is my absolute everything so im really struggling at the moment, currently on the bike but hopefully wont be long before i can get back out running!
:-)) I chose this because I am always happy... and I am older so I don’t know how do something better… and I did track workout today so my choices were recover for tomorrow or find something fancier.
Speaking of cross training, i found that my classical ballet training is excellent for strength, flexibility, core work and joint placement awareness. Probably not the first thing people think of but dance (even zumba or modern or ballroom) is much harder than it looks 😅
🤷🏼♀️ normally people ask me why I got up so early to run, or why I did a massive run at the weekend, or why I ran on holiday, i use this a lot cos the easy answer is cos I wanted too
🦋 not sure if it’s too cheesy but the butterfly as a kind of born again as I’ve been struggling to get back into running so starting again and hoping to fly 😂
my best advice would be just keep it fun. dont put yourself under pressure. i can remember where i had problems with just a few k's. now i can do 20 k's on any day without preparation. and im far from having the shape of a runner. just keep it fun and diverse.
💨 Pretty much the sound I make when I run most of the time not always but I’m not in control, and I’m 50 now so I don’t hold back unless I think there’s more to it 😂
My emoji is 🤣 for Anna’s “runningly” comment! No need to enter me in the contest, though - I’m in the US and don’t have a passport. As some others mentioned, this is quite timely as I’m training for a 10K. It’s one I’ve run twice before, most recently in 2017. The difference this time is I’m following a Garmin coach training program (and really enjoying it!) instead of just winging it on my own.
What's the best training advice you've ever received?
Make sure you plan rest days as you do run days
just enjoy the sport and don't push for results - they will come naturaly with consistency in training and recovery days.
Rest is vital!!
Don't overtrain. unfortunately I had to get a 2+ year knee injury and learn it for myself.

🦁 I have a big birthday coming up, & this Leo has got a place in the GNR, yay!
Stepping up from 10km to half, and really enjoying TRC videos for motivation and tips. Thanks guys xx
I stopped running after May Half Marathon, it is time to start again in August. Time to get motivated!
You got this Kaitlyn!
🏅 to represent my future medal after I cross the finish line at Brighton Marsthon (my first marathon) in April next year.
Great attitude James! You'll smash it 💪
🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️Finished my 2nd 10K on 24th Jul in Füssen and getting ready for my 2nd half marathon on 2nd October and this probably is the emoticon I can relate to at the moment.🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️ Thanks for all the content
@T Irv Plumbing please update us, how was your Parkrun going?
🤑 because I feel like I'm topping up my bank of health everytime I run!! Definitely need to up the strength work to help with injuries though 💪
🥵 - how I've been feeling getting marathon ready in the heat lol. Can't wait for it to cool down again 😁
Anna's laugh at 11:32. She was very proud of that joke.
❤🔥because yall spark my passion for running every time i watch
Awwwww thank you! What's your favourite race distance?
@@runningchannel i think half marathon, as shorter races always feel like alot of training for a short run
Keep up the awesome work 👍🏽🥰😀
Really glad you enjoy our videos Jacqui! Thank you so much for all your support 😁 Have you got any races coming up?
@@runningchannel thank you for your reply. I am hoping to do a 10k race in September and a half marathon next March!!
⌚The watch emoji as the advice about pacing and finding different paces for different distances is super helpful
Thank you for this video, love it 😊
😬 I completed my first 10k less than a month ago, and I signed up for my very first half marathon in April 2023. I’m so nervously excited!!! 😬😬😬
Anna cracking a smile just as the “pretend you’re reading a book” clip ends 😍😍😍
you may feel like your lungs are on fire, that feeling passes, honest...keep at everyone! run for yourself, and no one else! p.s - keep up the great vids!
🤯 because every time I think about the fact that I have become a runner over the last 2 years, it blows my mind! 🤯
Congrats !!!!!!!!!
Garmin plan for me s HM PB last year. Get stuck in and let us know how it goes 👍🏼
@@davesharratt917 I'm only three runs in and I'm already seeing some benefits.
😁 how I feel after a run! Trying to run continuously for 5k🤞
🐶 dog emoji representing all the cute dogs i see on my runs whom keep me motivated to keep going!
Those strength videos were my bread and butter during the pandemic. Alll the way in Trinidad
Really glad they helped you! Would you like to see more?
💪 this is my 'I can do this' emoji!
Sun rise runs are brilliant! Makes you feel like you've already accomplished something with your day 💪
Nice relaxing video and informative as well . 👍 because I can use this
🍛 because pre race day food is super important to me! I always have chilli con carne and this was the closest emoji I could find haha!
👨🏫 because I always keep learning new things during training and your videos about how to train beter not harder.
😎 I've chosen this emoji as I feel pretty chuffed with myself after every run
🤕 because im currently injured! & its not a running injury its a horse riding injury! running is my absolute everything so im really struggling at the moment, currently on the bike but hopefully wont be long before i can get back out running!
:-)) I chose this because I am always happy... and I am older so I don’t know how do something better… and I did track workout today so my choices were recover for tomorrow or find something fancier.
😤Because I blow off steam when I run. I initially started it to help my mental health but now I just don't feel like me without it!
🥵 that once a week hard session leaves you feeling completely done... but it works
Speaking of cross training, i found that my classical ballet training is excellent for strength, flexibility, core work and joint placement awareness.
Probably not the first thing people think of but dance (even zumba or modern or ballroom) is much harder than it looks 😅
🤷🏼♀️ normally people ask me why I got up so early to run, or why I did a massive run at the weekend, or why I ran on holiday, i use this a lot cos the easy answer is cos I wanted too
🥵 I'm going to be running some speed intervals in the hot sun this afternoon!
I’m a big girl who runs. 💪🏻 because I am working on being stronger and not just faster at age 53 to challenge myself.
😺as l was approaching my 60th birthday and really only doing parkrun and doing a 10km in October, have done half, 15km and 10 in my younger days.
🎢because I’m running my first 10k at Alton Towers in November! Thanks for all the top tips 👍
Best of luck 😊
🤔 As usual, plenty to think about and digest!
🦋 not sure if it’s too cheesy but the butterfly as a kind of born again as I’ve been struggling to get back into running so starting again and hoping to fly 😂
Lovely message Lauren!
🌖 Ran my first 10k at Ipswich twilight two weeks ago! Hence the sun and moon.
🐢 it's the start and finish line for me as long as I cross both then I am 😁
my best advice would be just keep it fun. dont put yourself under pressure. i can remember where i had problems with just a few k's. now i can do 20 k's on any day without preparation. and im far from having the shape of a runner. just keep it fun and diverse.
😎😎😎 Love running love Maratathons New York is on the wish list
😭 so emotional after crossing the finish line at Manchester marathon. Signed up to do it again next year though.
Congratulations!! It's such an amazing event 👏 Was it your first marathon?
@@runningchannel it was my 1st ever Marathon, I used your marathon training plan. Finish time of 4:08:53
💨 Pretty much the sound I make when I run most of the time not always but I’m not in control, and I’m 50 now so I don’t hold back unless I think there’s more to it 😂
My emoji is 🤣 for Anna’s “runningly” comment!
🥴 my long run face.. sweaty and tired but happy!
Ran my first 10k today in 55 minutes …..I’m happy 🏃♂️😅
