Amendola will get a huge load of targets. He's no Edleman but he can get open on 3rd down. I feel like James white is going to get a LOT of time at Slot also. We'll be okay. Billy is prepared for everything. #PatsNation
The thing is that Edelman is made of pure muscle. He takes such huge hits and doesn't get injured. The ultimate iron man. Only time he misses time is from non/minimal contact injuries. He's going to have horrible CTE after football, but he knows it's so worth it.
Edelman is a legitimate crazy person on the field. He gets lit up every single week and doesn't even flinch.

Dunno man, not saying I disagree with your pick, but I think Dion Lewis, amendola and cooks could all perform that role to varying degrees of success. So I wouldve liked to see film on them all, not just James white stats alone.

personally I think the reason that the pats went 3-4 in the last 7 games in 2015 and lost against Denver has way more to do with the offensive line than Julian Edelman

Saints fan here. I look for the Pats to line up Cooks in the slot more than Payton did in NOLA. Cooks is small and often had trouble getting off the line when he was lined up wide. I believe the slot is more of his calling

I don't agree with you that Edelman has better hands than Amendola. In fact, I think this is a pretty clear advantage for Amendola. Overall, I don't think Amendola is such a "downgrade" from Edelman - when he is healthy (which is a serious issue indeed).

Before watching I just knew this video was gonna lead to Amendola........ but I was wrong! Please don't sleep on Danny! I agree that White will have a larger role in the offense on certain weeks, but from a consistentcy standpoint, I think Amendola is going to fill the Edelman role! You left out the huge and I mean Huge points about that role! When Edelman got hurt in 2015 it was Danny that filled that role and was heavily targeted with a ton of catches the following week! You also forgot to mention that Danny also played a huge role in SB49, he also caught a TD that game! And how could we forget the clutch catches Danny made in SB51............he caught the TD that put N.E. back in the game, and he also caught arguably the most critical catch of the game........ ummm the 2pt conversion that actually tied the game at 28-28! Tom has already stated that he trust Danny and he showed it in last year's SB, as well as SB49. So I honestly think that role belongs to Danny, they brought him in for that role before Edelman became the beast that he is today..........but of course, Amendola has to stay healthy!
Amendola may be the 7th option in this offense. Hogan, Cooks, Mitchell, Gronk, White, and maybe Allen will be ahead of him.

Edelman is a strong part of the offense, it’s hard to replace someone who is so reliable and easy to connect with. He was lucky that Welker was aging when he stepped and I think Carr was a good receiver and I was very confused why he was cut when he could have been a good 3rd down target

Fair Use Act. You can't just take copyrighted content, but fair use gives you leeway when it comes to parodies and commentaries. Since he is giving insight and commentary, he can use the videos. If he was just taking game footage and posting it, that would be illegal.

I appreciate your great analysis on the majority of topics @Brett Kollmann, but you really underrated Amendola here. His prior work in the 16-17 season alone was enough to justify him being only a slight downgrade from Edelman, yet you didn't give him any props at all really. Good thing he performed so well in 17-18 and really let everyone know how good he is and how wrong, on this subject, you were.

Much more? Edelman can't stay healthy either. He's gone for this season. Gronk has much more impact on scoring points than Edelman.

Great video and while I agree with most of your points, I really think Hogan will perform and step up this year. He is consistently able to get open down the middle like Edelman, and now that we have Cooks we won't have to use Hogan as a speed threat in the slot and instead use him more similar to how we used Edelman.
Edelman has to be one of my fav receivers on the pats and it's a sad loss but with the coaching staff that we have i believe that we can find someone to fill the void. like bennett did for gronk last year

Edelman is very good, and I agree with nearly everything you said. Amendola was more clutch than Edelman with 78 yards 1 touchdown and a Clutch 2 point conversion.
A lot of ppl think Cooks will fill the void but he doesnt possess the grit that Edelman has. Cooks is a little diva and Pats fans will see that. Still an incredible talent though.
I always thought that White was another back. He was fast and quick enough to do his job and beat LBs. Also strong enough to run the ball to keep defences on there heels, but you have a great point. I still think Dion Lewis is special, and is better talent wise.

Come on, man. In 2015, as you said, we had numerous major injuries. And, yes, we kept right on chugging along until Edelman went down. But, what if he had been the *first* to go down and only later did the other 5-6 people get injured? I think Edelman is the most amazing receiver we've had for all the reasons you mention, but going 3-4 in the last half of 2015 had just as much to do as *all* the injuries adding up, not just Edelman. He just happened to be the last injury which was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.

We'll have to change a bit. I don't see Cooks doing what Edelman done, because he's different. Cooks will probably be used to take the top off the defense, rather than run typical Edelman crossing routes. We'll still be potent with Gronk, Lewis, Cooks, Dola and Mitchell. But Edelman is our guy. Amendola is strangely clutch, by the way. Comes up in 4th Q a lot.
I hope James White will be the work horse I drafted him today hoping he could receive some of those extra targets.
I would not be too worried. Cooks will replace Julian. But if Rob Gronk is back healthy. I think that is Brady best target.

lets not forget cooks lined up in the slot for no 35% of the time, and contrary to what most think he has a good route tree. I wouldn't be surprised if he lets Hogan and Mitchell run the outside and cooks play slot for half the game.
