Just found your channel the other day and have been skimming thru your videos. I currently own and am restoring a 1958 42' Matthews that I am planning to live aboard once she's seaworthy again. Love your videos, they will help keep my motivated.

Olives! We have just quite recently, bought an old Freeman Cruiser 32 MK2 here in Ireland, we eat an awful lot of olives on our boat, then we eat olives when we get home again while we are waiting for the week to pass so that we can get down to our boat again & then we eat more olives on our boat; we were eating olives whilst watching this episode (we watch every one); we love olives and we love your episodes almost, really nearly, as much as we love olives....but not as much as we love our boat.
Olive it when a plan comes together... theme tunes plays ..... Geordie sparks up a huge cigar. I should go into directing, with script writing talents like this I can't fail.
Olive's are wonderful, wow soup looked to die for yummy. Congrats on the engine now time for winter time project new engine beds, new wires new Olive dispenser new parts. oh joy, so now u can take your sweetie out in your boat next Summer.
Peter, I really must say I was again....extremely jealous when I saw you table set with the candles, fine crockery and wine. The ambiance was just amazing! That looked like a shot from a boating, no.....yachting magizine. Thanks for all the class you bring to our lives. That's picture is what I think of when I dream about boating. This is without doubt the best channel on TH-cam!!!
I enjoyed hearing your thought processes while going through the sequence of events leading up to getting that engine started, there is obviously an awful lot to take into consideration. I had no doubt it would start but I think I felt the same level of relief as you when it actually fired up ! That is exactly the kind of motivation you need when you have so much to do overall and I'm looking forward to seeing more video's of you getting it done !
Totally agree with your initial statement. On long term projects the psychology Ist sometime even more important to gain success than good work. Sometimes you need a break and sometimes suddenly some items become more important to you than the obviously more important things... Just do as you want and need and feel to do. Still enjoying every Saturday or Sunday morning's coffee with a new episode :)
Well, I thought that the word of the week would be "Baggett", but OLIVE works as well. Any mechanic will tell you that if your engine starts the first time you crank it, it bodes well for running well in the future. Maintenance is a important part of engine health. I worked for a man who owned 18 OTR trucks and he changed oil and fuel filters every ten thousand miles. He went through a LOT of oil, but come rebuild time, the main bearings, cam bearings and injectors were all in like new condition. Which was good, because he used Caterpillar engines and those parts are expensive.
Great episode Peter........ it's so easy to get overwhelmed with what seems an endless list of things to do on a boat ! I feel your pain! Just spent some time decluttering a small part of my vessel, and I just scratched the surface, even threw away provisions that haven't see the light of day in two years ! Did I mention a tin of olives went to the dumpster, amongst other things!.........😊🇨🇦🇬🇧🍷

Olive is a hard word to cleverly work into a comment about a boat video. I'm glad your engine started. I'm thinking of bringing my boat up to Bellingham in about a month. Would love to sail over for a visit.
Lovely episode, going to have to try that onion soup recipe! Might serve it with olives. I completely understand the “living on a barge” feeling, my boat has left her slip four times this season. Twice she came immediately back in. But I have to love her anyway, she is a boat. Glad your engine is not junk. MV Zephyrs cruising is great, but boats call to us, to take them to see the sea...Thanks for your great channel, Peter! Truly one of the best! It was great to see you interacting with Simon Styles a few weeks ago, as well. I think if you would have made him some onion soup he might not have seemed so grouchy! Those darn kids. But I love his channel too. Cheers, of course!
Some advice from France if you want to try a genuine "soupe à l'oignon" (onion soup). I'm no chef, just a passionate gourmet cooker. - Onions are usually sliced in rings (that won't change the taste) and not totally caramelized. If you caramelized the onions they will loose their water and make sugars on the pan. - Colour your onions in butter (the amount on the video is correct) until they get blond. Blond is enough for the onions to keep a bit of texture after being boiled. The "soupe à l'oignon" aspect is mostly clear. - Don't add any wine (which would bring extra acidity) but cover the onions with two times their volume with vegetables soup (reserved water which you coocked some vedgies in previously with a leaf of laurel, pass through a strainer prior to use to avoid vedgetables chips). - Allow to boil for a hour over a light heat. - Meanwile, slice some 1" (2.5cm) baguette slices and toast in an oven at 350F (180°C) until the bread gets a ginger colour. - No garlic or extra butter for the bread to limit fat (we already cooked onions in butter), and in French cuisine we usually don't mix onions and garlic in the same recipe. - Grate some cheese, preferably young Emental, but any cooked cheese should do. - Put a toasted slice of bread in a guest's bowl and cover with onion soup. Mill some black pepper over to avoid bland. - A bowl of crated cheese is in the center of the table to allow people to add the amount they like, or not. In the 70s, when the onion soup was fashionable, some budget restaurants used to bake the bowl of soup with some cheese on the top, to grill the cheese. Maybe the cheese just soften by the warm soup keeps much flavour, while the baked cheese is crispy but lost its taste. Try both and make your opinion. Thanks Peter to reminds us this meal, I haven't made some since an eternity ! What a shame ! I will cook some in a few.
I feel your pain, on the work that needs to be done on your boat. That sinking (no pun intended) feeling of having to open up the bilge and rummage around, getting dirty and oily, where nothing goes as planned. But, just remember when these times come along.....it could be worse. You could be in Simon's shoes! LOL
Hi Peter, Hi Geordie. Really great to see the Perkins firing up. I came across an onion cooking tip recently - leave the ends on and you won't tear up. Haven't tried it myself but maybe worth a go? Yummy soup and baguette. Stay safe guys and keep up the good work. 👍🖖🐶🦴🛥
Really like the look of the Onion soup but how about a few chopped in half olives chucked in there with the cheese just before it goes in the oven. Congratulations with the old Perky, fired up just fine so hopefully there wont be much amiss with it.
Congrats on the engine! Hope that gives you the boost you need to get back into a grove. My husband doesn't like olives but he'd love a Travels with Geordie t-shirt! That soup looked so good.
