Did you guys also notice the scene where Fitz very shortly remebers something from his time in the mountains before he was brought to Buckeep. It is really short, but Fitz is adressed as Keppet in that scene, confirming that the woman in farseer who cals Fitz that is his mother.
As always I’m late to this as I finish the trilogy. Great discussion Jimmy! The Farseer connections and payoff you kept mentioning from thousands of pages in the past really wowed me. All those books are even better in retrospect.
It’s such a simple series in some aspects but if you’re willing to engage and feel there’s some intimate payoff that idk if any other series have given me. I appreciate you watching this
Thanks for this, I don't have many people I can discuss these books with so watching you break it down and discuss your feeling is very cathartic for me!
would fitz have become king and come out as his true identity if he never visisted the fool again?? How would that go :) Just finished the series, love listening to all your dicsussions.
Great analysis from everyone. @riddhima was a great addition and added so much to the conversation. It's great to listen to other people discuss Robin Hobb in podcast style format. I didn't have anyone to discuss Robin Hobb and RoTE which was sad. So I live vicariously through you and your chats. It was funny how you all pronounced particular names. I've read the books and listened to the audiobooks. Not sure if the audiobooks are an authority though 😆 Thanks once again for the great content!
Hey Brendan! Thanks so much for the generous comment. I absolutely love chatting RotE and am glad you're enjoying listening to these discussions. Riddhima is one of the best people on booktube and I'm so psyched she joined us for this discussion. I always appreciate her insight. Again, thanks for watching 😁
@@thefantasynuttwork Btw @Chris Bookish Cauldron is so tough on Molly imo hahaha. I felt very sympathetic toward her. So many things were out of her control and it was all dumped on her after the Farseer Trilogy.
Just finished the Tawny man trilogy and loved it a lot, especially all the moments with Fitz getting back into the game and all thr secrets being uncovered
I LOVE that Chris named his cat fennel. I had the exact same thought. And I appreciate the Jenna discussion bc it's easy to forget about her. The sex scenes with Fitz were so horrible that I was in pain reading them. Also id love to read little short stories about fitz and nighteyes just hanging out in the cabin like at the beginning of fools errand. I like cozy writing with animals. And i'm glad I like nettle bc molly is so boring! Her and burrich were honestly a great couple. .i ship fitz with the fool or kettricken
God I love Tawny Man so much. I can’t decide if it or Fitz and the Fool is my favorite trilogy in Realm of the Elderlings. SPOILER FOR FOOL’S ERRAND: Nighteyes dying is one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever read. That whole passage is so damn poignant. Even though you could see it coming, it still caught me off guard. I sobbed so god damn hard. No one pulls at my heart strings as well as Hobb does, and it always feels earned. And then, Fool’s Fate came along and destroyed me. But wait! There’s more! Fitz and the Fool has, imo, the highest emotional highs and the lowest emotional lows. Many heart soaringly happy moments and many crushingly sad moments. So much catharsis, so much crying.
@@thefantasynuttwork don’t skip out on Rain Wild Chronicles tho! It’s definitely the weakest of the bunch, but it’s important for the world and it plays a role in Fitz and the Fool. (And it’s not bad, just the weakest in RotE).
37:00 I also think there is a parallel between Fitz and his bad relationship with Jenna and Hap's with his one girl that dumped him for the sailor. You know the one that kinda was either just in it for the thrill or a gold digger Idk what exactly but she was really just toying with poor Hap
I love that Fitz never hesitates in calling Hap his son. An interesting thing i noticed I'm certain its almost exclusive to Fool's Errand, is Fitz only (internally) acknowledges Dutiful as *his* son when he's angry or disappointed in him. The rest of the time he just dances around the subject with stuff like "child of my body" or just Verity's son. I didn't like Starling in Farseer, but cheating on her spouse aside, i found her very endearing in Tawny Man. Dunno how i feel about her getting pregnant at the end though. She acknowledges she wasn't likely to have kids but i don't recall her being truly interested in becoming a parent. Just felt like "how do i give Starling a happy ending?"
18:00 I just wanted to say the relationship between Dutiful and thhe cat isn't the perverse thing but cuz the former bonded woman did take control of the cat and the bond between them is a weird threeway where the woman has more control over the cat and she's the one taking advantage of both Dutiful and the cat

And then we actually get to MEET this character. It was a 'twist' I did not see coming at ALL, whereas the the rest of the plot points felt more foreshadowed. It felt like the history of the world really deepened, and just how epic the scale of the story is.... it really felt more apparent. Great overview, loved these books so much. I also wanted the fool and fitz to end up together, their relationship was so much more passionate and deep than fitz+molly!! Do you have the link for the dramatic reading of the fool+fitz scene, and the fool's poem set to music that Chris mentioned? Would love to check them out!
Please add subtitles in Portuguese Brazil to videos where you talk about Robin Hobb's books. I like the videos but because I don't understand what they're saying, I watch for a short time.
I didn’t dislike Jinna. She gives Hap a home and tried to persuade Fitz to get more involved with Hap (which Jinna was right about, he did need to). I think she didn’t really understand the witted stuff, it’s not like most non witted folks did, but she wasn’t hostile to it. She only turned on Fitz when she found out he killed people, including someone she knew, and his explanation as to why was just not clear enough for her to understand. Obviously as readers we know Fitz was justified in doing what he did, but all she knows is he murdered three people and a horse and his explanation is super confusing to someone who isn’t involved in all that. Jinna tried to be a decent person but they were ultimately incompatible. Meanwhile I didn’t feel like Starling tried to be a decent person until right at the end of this trilogy. She was relentlessly selfish and hypocritical and it was telling that both Nighteyes and the Fool hated her.
I never felt Webb played the game. He was just a calming presence. Wise in such an unassuming way. Not many real life examples to be fair. Just a good bloke. Was a contrast to Burrich. Opposite sides of the Wit debate.
ahm just before that minstrels chapter, the italisized story makes it clear that sometimes the dragons in the cocooon dont become dragons from that womb dragon or something and thus all the minstrels put themselves and their memory in that drogon womb and thus the minstrels' minds lived. THE FOOL HOWEVER while dying at hands of pale woman put himself in that feather/dragon womb and thus still kinda lived. didnt he use his blood too ? but then the minstrels were angry that he got into it so easily and they themselves had earned it so they push his memory/soul out of that crown feather and his soul..?? enters fitz's body and then fitz gets into fool's body and has to convince the elements which make the fool's body to not degenerate but realign themselves into Fool.It is difficult for him to understand his body elements as fool isnt human but a White . but it manages it. and thus the "resurection" but was it really a resurection? and am i following this all right or is my understanding of this mechanics wrong?
1:01:00 wait you didn't love Burrich? I loved him from the start cuz he was this dude that had to care for the son of his lord and even tho he WAS NOT the best he DID his best and I from the start was always like I'm pretty sure that's the story and Fitz being in Farseer a kid just didn't realize that Burrich is trying to be a good dad to a son that isn't his. Burrich may be the best character in all of RotE. And Chade... like Idk I guess he was so brainwashed in having to be an asset for the crown and all that I can't hate him and he's still one of Fitz's dads imo even tho he is the one that can be intense and cruel and selfish
Personally, I think Thick has Autism. A lot of people on the spectrum are very musically inclined and Thick perceives the world in sounds, organizing them into music
I dont like Starling early couse she is not considerate of others. She is selfish. She seduces long lording who definitely needs heir to take over when he passas, and she uses that lord to get better live herself same time she seeks entertainment and fulfillment other ways and if she suspects that her husband is having affair she dont consider that she have has affairs and her husband needs a heir that she has failed to give. Its not her fault she is barren, but she should use others to make her better. Work harder, be smarter and you have a place in your golden years. But she chooses to use others for her benefit. Yes she helps Hap and have role also on later series and she even have children that she didnt think she could have but it dosent matter what kind of cards you have but how you play them.
I love Thick. It was so sweet when he says, "I love you Tom", the nerrator does an amazing job with him in the audiobooks.
