I have to thank you sincerely . I copied every key you mentioned. Never done it before but was able to get a good C# (top for me at present). The key is JUST AS YOU SAID---"LET THE AIR DO THE WORK AND KEEP THE PRESSURE OFF THE CHOPS". Many thanks Larry. Will continue watching and listening for further tips. This one will keep me busy for days. Thanks ag

My dad played trumpet with Larry Hall in High School. I took up the trumpet and studied under Almeida, who was a great classical trumpet player, and also a fan of Bill Adam. He had me watching his tapes back in the 80s. Bill Adam was a wonderful trumpet teacher and a great philosopher. I wish I had pursued the trumpet more diligently, instead of becoming a plumber.

I think the key is the doing it everyday part, like Larry Hall said, whichever version you do. I like the Adam opposing long tones also.
thanks again for the great videos.

Agreed.. Bill Adam was a Student of my mentor Harold Mitchell who wrote Mitchell On Trumpet. Many of Bill's ideas came from Harold Mitchell.

I spent many years studying with Harold Mitchell Who was also Mr. Adam’s trumpet teacher. While I was heavily influenced by many Adams students the phrase came from Harold Mitchell Who said it first.

Hi Larry, great tips thank you. Questions... right now my relaxed ceiling on this is taking the Eb scale to Bb below high C. The next scale (D) I can strain out a weak high C, but it's not relaxed. Would I repeat the Eb scale to Bb until fatigue and do that every day for like a week then add a scale?

I'm having a little trouble understanding how you can concentrate on the sound and the blow when you're playing the scales that fast. Shouldn't those scales be practiced with a slower, steady tempo and each note played clearly and distinctly? And how can you concentrate on a good sound and steady airstream when you shake a top note? Did Bill Adam ever prescribe a specific tempo marking for those quarter notes in the expanding scale? I didn't see any tempo markings in the book.
