What Claude Gordon called "anchor tonguing" is what Doc Reinhardt called "The Type V (5) Tongue." But Doc specified that only people long tongues (those who could touch their noses with their tongues) were capable of pulling off the type V tongue. He didn't have students with average length tongues attempt to adopt that method of tonguing.

Claude Gordon never called it "anchor" tonguing. He taught floating the tip of the tongue lightly behind the lower teeth and actually wrote "DO NOT HOLD IT RIGID OR ANCHORED"....his caps, not mine.
I have an average length tongue and this method makes my single tonguing articulation way faster than tip of the tongue single tonguing.
Remember that if you ask 10 trumpeters a question you'll get 20 answers. There is no correct answer, there are just lots of methods and its a journey to find what works for you. The great ones figure it out early.

I do the same type if exercise. I've noticed I get tired more using the tongue than just blowing into the trumpet in long tones. Which is still good but all in one is better.

Do you switch to anchor tonguing when you go into the upper register? I also single tongue behind my top teeth but find that anchor tonguing is pretty necessary above the staff.

Any change I.E. mouthpiece, Horn or tooth structure will take a while to overcome. Hang in there and be diligent. I got my chops back and I have 17 tooth extractions!
