    "We don't know what we're doing; we're just showing what we're doing." Made me chuckle. (I wish I could be as creative and productive while not knowing what I'm doing!) Great looking and frame, and those legs!...so impressed with your design skills!

    Doug, you have the mind of an engineer! Your designs are incredible! Maybe consider patenting and selling plans for your creations? The genius of each design is the in the simplicity, yet flexibility of use, along with minimal use of new materials while also upcycling what you have on hand! Just brilliant!!!

    The fact that you had the wherewithal to know you need airflow, is amazing to me. Some people think you can build right on the floor and not get mold. You should make furniture for a living. lol

    I've always wanted a completely adjustable bed. The best I ever slept on was a new-ish hospital bed that also allowed me to elevate my knees... I slept soooo good on that bed (& it's hard to get good sleep in a hospital).

    Love it! I had a very similar bed from Denmark....no incline though. As an old GI nurse, we'd recommend inclined sleeping for acid reflux. The only negative is....you don't want satin sheets, you'll slide down the slope. You do great work.

  • @dianaw5100
    @dianaw5100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I've slept on an incline for many years. 40 years ago I put books under the front legs of my daughter's crib as this was recommended by our doctor when my baby developed pneumonia. She recovered well and I just continued the advice. My daughter still practices this today but with a fancy hydraulic bed. So I say you made a smart choice and built a beautifully simple bed. The legs are genius.

    My son had to sleep in his crib with an incline. To this day he inclines all of his mattresses. He has very bad acid reflux. You are making a great decision by inclining your bed to help your health on so many levels.

    My father in law was an orthopedic doctor and he hated inner spring mattresses. He also build furniture and when he made our bed the mattress sat on a platform. That was how he build all of our beds. For our son he made two big square drawers for the twin mattress to sit on. The drawers were great for storage.

    Love the bed and wish I had one. I have a hiatus hernia and suffer from acid reflux. My Doctor told me to raise the head of my bed but it’s difficult when the bed hasn’t been designed to do this, so I have to use quite a few pillows to prop myself up which isn’t ideal, although it has helped my health issue to some extent.

    What a great idea! I did not know about the health benefits of inclined sleeping. Will do some reading. The bed frame looks great. The closing statement was so you guys, ' we're just showing what we're doing. We don't know know what we're doing, we're just showing what we're doing". I love that. You don't force ideas, just present them to us and let us decide. Two gentle souls showing two beautiful children how to be gentle. Being laid back and having a 'go with the flow' attitude will serve to keep you mentally healthy. Stay warm, fire up the woodstove, and have a picnic on the living room floor. We used to play 'the fishing game' with the children during a winter living room picnic in front of the woodstove, and have them fish for special things in a wash-tub. A Zebco pole and scraps of paper with special privileges and fun activities ♡

    I’ve been sleeping at an incline for years. I love it. But I also have a rail (?) I don’t know what it’s called, at the foot end of the bed. The mattress slides a little bit and that keeps it in place. I’m sure you will like your new bed. Great job creating it.

My cerebral spinal fluid build over night. This is very difficult to mimic or financially do. I love this ideal. Would be life changing for me. Thanks for posting.

    Your bed is a great idea. I have a suggestion for you if you find your mattress slides. Try a thin perforated rubber rug pad on the base, they are less than $20.

    • @SaSuEnglish
      @SaSuEnglish 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried the rubber rug pad didn't work as well as I had hoped. I'm thinking of putting a 2x4 on the platform under the mattress at the knee location. Maybe the mattress won't slide as much. And a little lift at the knee would make it a semi zero gravity without the need for a footboard.

    It sounds like a good way to sleep. You may want to add a small "lip" at the foot of the mattress to keep it from sliding down.

  • @FieldFarmForest
    @FieldFarmForest 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    That’s awesome. I had put a couple of blocks under the legs of the top of my bed. I just thought I would feel better. I didn’t realize it was a whole “thing”. Now I guess it needs to be higher. You have such the engineers mind Doug. I bet you could package those in “assemble-yourself” kits. I’d buy one: Queen size, please.

    Several years ago I built a platform bed. The only problem we had was the mattress moving. Every morning we had to push the mattress back into place. The resolve this I put a rubber rug pad under the mattress to give it a little friction.

Then I discovered the reason for the reflux was my spine was out of line . Once that was fixed no more reflux so I removed the bricks . I had no idea about the other health benefits . When I firsts started sleeping with my head inclined, I did something similar. The fail in the system for me was that the mattress wants to give in to gravity. So after time it just kept sliding down. Anyway, the fix for me was to put some brakes on the foot, not enough to be a foot board, but enough to "catch" the mattress. Hope your system works for you over time.

    Interesting, I sleep inclined due to reflux. Not like your bed though, but more like on those chairs near a pool, or beach chairs, where you have a part that is flat and just the half for your upper body lifted up. It works and I am happy with the results. I didn't research it, just tried to see if it helped and it did. Love your ideas, and your wood work!!

    I am 66 and when I was a child my Grandmother slept with bricks under the legs of the head of her bed. She had asthma and it helped her breathing. So this has been around for a while! I might be adding a brick to 2 under the head of my bed. Well done Doug! The frame looks good too and I like the innovative legs.

    Three inches in a slope doesn't look too radical and with the bed made I don't think it's enough for an observer to notice (unless you call attention to it). If it helps acid reflex, that's just plain awesome and something we can try out with just putting a brick or books under two legs prior to starting our own carpentry project. Your bed is elegant looking too! The slats with the even spacing are beautiful and it's a shame it's not seen below the mattress. Bravo for the curved corners!!! The legs being way inside the edge of the bed saves on stubbed toes as well. I love it!!! Great job. Bravo!!!

      Yeah, a lot of the sites we read mention just propping the legs like you describe. We only built a new frame because we had been wanting to get rid of the old metal frame and box spring.
