As a writer, I found this conversation so relevant to my experience. Writing is hard, but it needs to be done to develop good ideas out. Aiming for perfection is the first draft is useless; just get it on the page and then enjoy the revision process.
I relate so much to the concept of the worse thing. Nothing brings me such pure joy. I find it more difficult to be that person in recent times as people seemingly, intentionally misconstrue you with that which you're making fun of. People are so terrified to be seen as a bad person, they virtue signal endlessly to remain safe in the public's eye. Harrowing lack of integrity. I sound like a boomer but it 100% stems from the desperate facade that is social media.
I miss when we could have an opinion and voice it without being afraid it would hurt someone’s feelings or be misconstrued. I think we forgot that it doesn’t have to sound good, it just has to be properly defined.
Thinking of writing as miserable isn't useful. Lean on the advantages of writing and just keep going. Just because a lot of the greats were poor or alcoholic or goofed up doesn't mean we should imitate their sadness.
